1.Create a problem statement for the client, Azure Sky Tea, based on the Hofstede model.

Problem Statement

Azure Sky Tea is an herbal tea company located in the Rocky Mountains of the United States. Azure Sky Tea has nine percent of market shares and is looking to increase market share by expanding into different markets. The problem that Azure Sky Tea company is facing is that they are trying to find a market that suitable with their low key culture. In order to find suitable countries one must find the countries on the Hofstede that score similar in all of the four dimensions to the United States scores. It is important to find two countries that are similar to the United States because, Azure Sky Tea wants to operate their office with the same cultures.

2. Classify possible combinations of countries for location of the Azure Sky Tea’s offices based on the Hofstede model. Include a discussion of the home country’s (U.S.) relative position on the Hofstede scales as compared to other countries. Note: Utilize the Hofsetede module to include all parameters (i.e., individualism, uncertainty, power distance, masculinity) for the classification.

The Hofstede Model is a model that gives a score about the culture in terms of four dimensions such as, individualism, power distance, masculinity, and uncertainty avoidance index. A high power distance score indicates that people accept the difference in power between their superior and themselves and power is concentrated within the hands of a few individuals while a lower score indicates that people can’t take the difference in the score and power is well shared among the players in the system. Australia and Great Britain have similar scores to the United States. According to the Hofsetede in the power of distance Australia scored 36, Great Britain 35 and United States 40. Brazil and Argentina scored rather high in power of distance, Brazil 69 and Argentina 49, giving the impression that they would operate differently from the main office in the United States. The individualism score gives us an idea of the relationship and strength between the people in the country in a system. In individualism, Australia and the United States scored similar, Austrailia 90 and United States 91, Great Britain scored slightly less at 89.

3.Choose two (2) countries as potential locations for the Azure Sky Tea’s new international offices. Next, develop a set of specific recommendations for the company. In your recommendations: According to The Hofstede centre, the model shows that the United States, Great Britan and Australia all have similar qualities. I think this is rather important while expanding the Azure Sky Tea company because it will be easy to get use to the culture. As with opening any business, there are many risks. Some of those risks include: political risks, legal, bribery, graft and corruption. Azure Sky Tea could potentially face non payment risks and legal risks. Many exporting business encounter the risk of non payment. Another risk that Azure Sky Tea may face if they open an office in Great Britain is the economic risks, human rights and also terrorism.

a.) Include the preliminary data that you gathered in the previous question.

Australia and Great Britain Azure Sky Tea is looking to expand to different countries. Based on the information collected and after carefully reviewing the score in terms of the four dimensions on the Hofstede Model I would recommend for Azure Sky Tea to open new offices in Australia and Great Britain. Australia and Great Britain best match the United States scores. By opening new offices in these two locations the scores show that business would operate similar to the offices located in the United States.

b.) Demonstrate the most important dimensions of the Hofstede model for Azure Sky Tea to consider as a U.S. company and for the industry that it represents.

The most important dimension for Azure Sky Tea is the uncertainty avoidance index because, it expresses the degree of comfortably of its customers. Uncertainty avoidance Index (UAI) basically shows how society deals with a new product or service. For a U.S. Company that is looking to expand to another country it is very important that the customers and the people that live in these countries feel comfortable with the product so that increase sales. Since the uncertainty avoidance index is at high level for the United States as well as Australia and Great Britain means that they use formality when interacting with others making it a bit easier for Azure Sky Tea company customer service offices to get comfortable with the countries culture.

c. Predict the economic opportunities of your recommendations.

In Great Britain, I predict at least $35,000 increase in sales within the 1st year after opening the Azure Sky Tea office. I would recommend that Azure Sky Tea open an office near the main city. In Australia, I predict at least $40,000 increase in sales within the first and second year after opening in Australia. I would also recommend for Azure Sky Tea to open their main office in Sydney, Australia.

4.Speculate on the main potential risks inherent in relocating to the countries that you are considering. Suggest at least two (2) approaches that the Azure Sky Tea leadership could leverage to mitigate the potential risks that you have identified.

The main potential risks inherent in relocating Azure Sky Tea to Australia and Great Britain are lack of business knowledge within employees and potential partners. Another potential risk is government regulations and different cultures. The Azure Sky Tea could leverage to mitigate the potential risks by sending their own training employees to train potential employees. This could help make sure that the training process goes smooth and quickly. The Azure Sky Tea, should also familiarize themselves with all government rules and regulations and different cultures.

Advertising

...Advertising affects what consumer buy. Ads appeal us many reasons. For example, in the two ads I found for hair-care stuff. The Beachblonde ad is more effective than Frizz-Ease ad because of its use of propaganda, its use of color, its layout. First of all, the Beachblonde ad uses many propaganda devices. For example it uses some loaded words like ‘blonde’, ’shine’, ‘sun-kissed’. But Frizz-Ease uses only ‘amazing’. In addition, Beachblonde ad uses many glittering generalities. ‘Now, anyone can be a Beacblonde’, ‘Get sun-drenched highlights with high-impact shine anytime, any where.’ On the other hand, Frizz-Ease ad uses glittering generalities like ‘You will see amazing transformation’, ‘whether you have dry, wiry or fine hair, there’s a Frizz-Ease Serum perfect for you’. Beachblonde ad uses plain folks appeal, but Frizz-Ease ad doesn’t use it. Thus because of its use of propaganda devices, the Beachblonde ad is more appealing. Besides propaganda techniques, the Beachblonde ad uses better colors. In the Beachblonde ad, it uses several cheerful colors like yellow, light blue, emerald green, and white. Yellow is an attention getter and it is most visible color of all the colors. So it is the number one attention getter. And blue is one of the most popular colors. To American consumers of both genders, blue is the favorite color. In addition, in this ad they use light blue so it means they want to emphasize cheerful. And emerald green is also the color which looks cheerful. White...

Cloud Computing

...focus is on cloud computing and storage, and specifically public cloud, which is one of the four deployment models in our textbook. Cloud computing is a rapidly growing industry in our culture. The public cloud is a place where you can store data without it taking up space on your computer and also giving you the ability to access it anywhere over the internet. There are some concerns over security but all in all the advantages outweigh the disadvantages and usage the cloud in business as well as personal life is not going away anytime soon. Utilizing public cloud for applications is less expensive than owning and managing your own platforms or software because if it’s not free, you only pay for what you use. For example, Windows Azure Services Platform offers virtual machines, SQL database and SQL reporting as well as countless others. These are applications that you would need to purchase and download, and they may not even be right for your needs. This service in particular can cost as low as 2 cents per hour to run any of the applications that they have to offer. [1] So, for an individual or business who does not need a lot this is definitely the way to go. Google drive is still fairly recent and to most people it seems to have just replaced Google Docs. The difference is that it is actually more like Dropbox in that you can store much more than what you create there.[2] They also are offering up more features, one really cool one being PDF to text conversion...

Cloud Computing

...the services are provided. This simplified view is called an abstraction. Similarly, cloud computing offers computer application developers and users an abstract view of services that simplifies and ignores much of the details and inner workings. A provider's offering of abstracted Internet services is often called The Cloud. The key characteristic of cloud computing is that the computing is "in the cloud" i.e. the processing (and the related data) is not in a specified, known or static place(s). This is in contrast to a model in which the processing takes place in one or more specific servers that are known. All the other concepts mentioned are supplementary or complementary to this concept. Example: Microsoft Windows Azure The Windows Azure platform is a flexible cloud–computing platform that lets you focus on solving business problems and addressing customer needs. Cloud Vendor Report

...CLOUD VENDOR REPORT SECTION 3 - GROUP H In the given scenario, we’re looking for the matching cloud-vendor for the young CEO of a wealth management company in central London. Since, the company is active in the financial industry, there is a high importance on the security of the client’s data and the need for highly analytical tools. The business will employ 13+ sales analysts by the end of the year and is hooked up to a well-performing Internet connection. The CEO requests cloud services to set up customized application tools in order to manage his clients’ portfolios and ensure a high security of the clients’ data, in addition. Standardized off-the-shelf cloud products might not fulfill all the needs, which the wealth management business requires. Depending on the size of a company, staff and budget, there are three different types of cloud computing service models, which build upon one another (see appendix A). Software-as-a-service (SaaS) is the most complete cloud service model in which whole applications are being managed from a central location and made available to the end-users.i Then there is platform-as-a-service (PaaS), which supports the creation of software, rather than fixed software, being delivered over the web. It gives the opportunity to easily develop applications and not to depend on specific platforms to run. Additionally, there is the flexibility to take advantage of cloud benefits while retaining data and applications on site as needed.ii Finally...

This library efficiently utilizes multiple processors within Windows Azure roles, where the size of the Virtual Machine instance is greater than Small (i.e. where there are multiple processors available). Additionally, the demo shows how to scale-out applications taking advantage of Technical Computing across multiple role instances, using a Job scheduling algorithm. The work is distributed to all the available instances, maximizing the CPU processing of each. Travelling Salesman demo is using a “genetic” algorithm to quickly solve the problem that would ordinarily require very many conventional interactions to solve. The problem and its real–life applications are widely documented (for example, see http://www.tsp.gatech.edu/index.html). However, the database management system cannot withstand the quickly and greatly increased work load, the break-down frequency increases, which make the decision-making efficiency and customer experience drop. The company tries to turn around this bad trend and poses two solutions: one is to update the present DBMS including hardware, software and human resource; the other one is to make use of SQL Azure from Microsoft to set up cloud environment and transfer the DBMS there. After cost analysis, we find that to reach the same efficiency standard, the cost of first solution is 9 times of the second solution, and the second solution has merits such as capability, flexibility and elasticity, so we suggest implementing the second solution: Cloud DBMS, SQL Azure.
