Symbolism In A Thousand Splendid Suns

...The phrase “a thousand splendid suns” from the Saib-e-Tabrizi poem, signifies the peace and hardships that Afghanistan, Laila, and Mariam face throughout their times. When it first appears in the book, Laila’s Babi, mammy, and herself were packing up their things so that they could leave Afghanistan because living there became too dangerous with the war. Babi quotes the poem “One could not count the moons that shimmer on her roofs, Or the thousand splendid suns that hide behind her wall” (Hosseini 192). Here, the phrase is used to express the hidden beauties that Afghanistan had before the war such as the buddhist statues that Laila, Tariq, and Babi once visited. The other time it is used is when Laila expresses Mariam as being in her own heart, “where she shines with the bursting...

Trends in European Business Law

...Business Law Trends With the move towards a market economy slowing taking over Europe, there has been a vast amount of changes in laws that effect businesses across Europe and in the Czech Republic in particular. Through my research, I have discovered a few trends in which I have found interesting. The first of those trends is the slow removal of anonymous corporate ownership in the Czech Republic. Before the end of last month, numerous companies throughout the Czech Republic had anonymous shares. This made it difficult to determine who had ownership in these said companies. Because of that, just recently a law was put in to place to prevent these thousands of companies from continuing to keep shares anonymous. June 30th was the deadline for companies to make all corporate shares public, and if the anonymous shares are not removed then the companies themselves should disappear. Anonymous shareholders will also lose their rights within these companies such as voting at meetings and receiving dividends. The reasoning behind this is to create a more transparent corporate world in the Czech Republic. As well, this law will help towards ending corruption and criminal acts in the corporate world. Many of these companies have been viewed as a front for illegal activity. These companies have been pinpointed as the most likely companies to be involved in fraud, and the government has made it a point to attempt to block these companies from receiving subsidies, payments, and public...

...bodies willing to fight the Soviets, but instead we are trapped in hiding, like scared girls hiding from their abusive husbands. But I’m not afraid. I would die with honour for this country. We count our days since our last meal, the last day we saw sunlight, the last time we laughed uncontrollably about something funny, scratching in another line to our count. But then I remember why I am here. The overwhelming feeling of pride and sacrifice swallows me up in one bite. These days I would think of Mammy and Babi. I would think of Laila and her fond love for school. I would laugh at her, tell her that she was mad. My eyes begin to water, a tear gracefully falls down past my nose onto the brown dirt of the bunker, only to be absorbed and forever lost. This made me think. When we die, will we be lost as well? Will we be lost absorbed by the war and forever just be a nameless body, another lost solider? But Mammy would never forget. Mammy would be proud of the efforts, even if Babi cringed at the thought of Ahmad and I dropping out of school to join another pointless cause. But for me, freedom spoke to me. Freedom and democracy was the gift I would provide to Afghanistan. Time is a funny thing inside these soulless walls. Some days the boys and I will be sitting here waiting. Waiting for anything to happen because the worst of it was when it drags on in the quiet, the stillness and the empty land above us, barren and inhabitable. Other days we will be scared, terrified even. I remember...

...communism existed and I found a stand it wasn't A strong belief to the Afghan people (www.wsws.com). The people are going to face a new leader with his communist regime. The communist regime in Afghanistan was an example of what was termed a revolution by a group ( Halliday, 1358). The history of the PDPA regime is important for reconstruction of modern afghan history in Afghanistan (Halliday 1357). The Islamist opposition and their backers were saying that the Kabul regime would fail at some point in its history (Halliday, 1359). The broader social consequences of the Khalai regime were also significant in their time (Halliday, 1360). Afghanistan is going through a series of doubts about its government under Soviet control. Rukun Negara

...First: Trust in God. It does not matter what religion you practise, every religion only preaches good teachings. So Malaysians, should stop fighting about race/ religion and enjoy our good peace and harmony with each another. Do not allow any political party to belittle any race/ religion or to tear our country apart for their silly personal gains (politicians who work for any particular race/ religion should be brought to court for being racist.) Secondly: Supremacy of the Constitution. We should all practise democracy. It doesn’t matter how small or big. We fought really hard for our freedom and independence only to have it taken away by the very own people we elect to represent us. Hence we should all find ways to make Malaysia more democratic. It might be small baby steps, but every little bit eventually adds up just as the recent political tsunami has proven. We the people of Malaysia, should demand for more elections, from kampung heads to state assembly persons, to local councillors. Every single position that could be voted for, should be voted for. Hence the Rakyat would have more say over any issue. We will have our independence once again. Thirdly: Justice/Gloriousness of Law. Laws are there to protect us, the Rakyat. They are not meant to be used at the whim and fancy of our politicians. However, as many Malaysians never want to uphold the laws anyway, it allows the corrupt and unscrupulous politicians to get away with many other bigger sins. We must uphold our...
