After Romeo had met Juliet, he forgot all about his past love, even stating, “With Rosaline, my ghostly father? No. I have forgotten that name and that name’s woe” (Shakespeare 410). After his heartbreak over his love for Rosaline, he immediately forgets about her and moves on to loving Juliet. This shows Romeo is fickle and his love for Juliet may not have lasted either. After Romeo killed Tybalt, another impulsive action, he asks Paris later in the play, “Put not another sin upon my head”(Shakespeare 472). Romeo does not want to kill Tybalt, nor does he want to kill Paris, yet, he cannot control his anger and stop himself from performing harmful actions. If Romeo had not killed Tybalt, he would not have been banished, and none of the following events would have occurred. Therefore, Romeo’s capricious and temperamental behaviors cause the tragedy that …show more content…
The Friar is the one who suggests that Juliet drinks the potion to mimic her death and even gives her the potion (Shakespeare 453). His naivety and hope that this will cure the rancor of the two houses leads to Romeo’s death in his anguish of seeing Juliet dead, and Juliet’s death that followed. Friar Lawrence might be minutely responsible for Romeo’s and Juliet’s death, but they still made their own decisions knowing the consequences. Juliet was fearful and imagined all the terrible things that could result from her decision, fearing she would die, wake up before Romeo arrives, or go crazy after her time in the tomb. (Shakespeare 456). She knew the consequences of her actions and even feared them. Yet, her naivety leads her to taking the potion and risk everything for her childish love of Romeo. There may have been other influences, but ultimately, Romeo and Juliet are responsible for their own deaths because of their terrible

Addiction In Romeo And Juliet

...in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet In Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare uses metaphors and details through the characterization of Paris, Juliet, and Romeo in order to reveal the theme of how love is an addiction, it is an obsession and people make quick decisions without thinking because of love. Shakespeare incorporates many characters in his play in order to portray how love is so overpowering that it causes the characters apathy towards life to incline. Is Friar Lawrence To Blame In Romeo And Juliet

...In the story of Romeo and Juliet, a tragedy occurs between two star crossed lovers in which the result is both of their lives are taken from them. Many people have debated on the subject of whose fault it actually is, but the person who needs to take most of the blame for what happened is Friar Lawrence. Friar Lawrence was the wise advisor to Romeo and Juliet, and he also was the adult in the situation. Even though not even all adults make the right decisions, he should have handled the whole situation better. For example, he should not have married the couple together because of how young and immature they both are. The Friar wasn’t thinking very well with the decision he make to join the two together, especially after how much trouble he...

Romeo And Juliet Impulsive Quotes

...Romeo and Juliet Everybody makes bad decisions somewhere in their life, even if some people end up making ones worse a lot earlier in their life. Therefore, Juliet was the most responsible for her and Romeo’s death because she was impatient, impulsive and immature. To begin, Juliet’s impatience had only started to show after she happened to meet Romeo at the party being thrown at her house. One of the biggest acts of impatience in both her and Romeo is how badly they both want to get married. This is mostly shown during the famous balcony scene where Juliet says, “Th’ exchange of thy love’s faithful vow for mine.” (2.2.134) Both Romeo and Juliet only spoke once before this, meaning that they have known each other for less than an hour and knew barely anything about the other. For Juliet to have already felt the need to propose to Romeo is incredibly impatient and foolish thinking. Therefore, Juliet’s impatience was one of the most important reasons to...

The friendly nature of Romeo and Friar Lawrence’s relationship was captured by Shakespeare through metaphors. The Friar says, “Is Rosaline, that thou didst love so dear, So soon forsaken? Young men’s love then lies, not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes. (2.2.68-70). The Friar is asking Romeo how he moved on from Rosaline so quickly, saying young men must love with their eyes and not with their hearts. Romeo

...Light Over Dark: The Choice Romeo and Juliet Didn’t Make The purpose of the light/dark motif in Romeo and Juliet is to show how Romeo and Juliet are unable to tell light from dark, or good from bad. I think everyone has the potential to distinguish what choices lead to “light” and what choices keep them in the “dark”. So Romeo and Juliet had that potential but I don’t think they wanted to know about that, since nothing else mattered to them but them. In this play, Romeo and Juliet do never make a clear choice of light over dark because they almost do not want to deal that decision in the middle of their romantic journey. They could have brought their situation which was becoming more of a mess each day, into the light by talking openly about it. However that would’ve ended the feud between the families that would have to be dealt with in some way and I’m sure Romeo and Juliet would not have lost their lives doing that. By ignoring their responsibilities and ignoring the darkness that was rising on them quickly both Romeo and Juliet allow tragedy to take them both. In the first scene, Romeo is depressed because his love for Rosaline is a one-way love. His parents are worried because Romeo spends all his time in the dark. Even when it is light, he shrouds himself in darkness to reflect his dreary mood: Away from the light steals home my heavy son / And private in his chamber pens himself / Shuts up his windows, locks fair daylight out / And makes himself an artificial night (I...

Love is shown in a cognitive way, and a corporeal way like hugging and saying that you love someone, or just thinking about love can have a great impact on someone, but it isn’t always a good thing as at times people can become victims of other people with only the thought of love in their mind for others, as in the play Romeo and Juliet written by Shakespeare; love is both wonderful, harmful or that some people can just take it to an extreme. Romeo and Juliet

...11-16-09 Bad Decisions End in Tragedy Mrs. Trombley 9G Hour 6 The character Friar Laurence is a bad man in the play Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare. The Friar makes a bad decision that ends with two lovers dead. He wishes for the best although it does not turn out the way he planned. When Romeo and Juliet decide to get married the Friar assists them and does not tell the feuding households of Romeo’s Montague family and Juliet’s Capulet family. Friar does not believe they should get married. Then he realizes it could end the battle between the families as he says in his cell to Romeo “But come, young waverer, come, go with me, /In one respect I'll thy assistant be; /For this alliance may so happy prove, /To turn your households' rancour to pure love” (II. iii. 93-96). Lord Capulet wishes that Juliet marry Paris. Juliet is already married to Romeo but not many people know of their secret marriage or love for each other. Romeo is in Mantua for his banishment of killing the Capulet’s kinsman Tybalt. Friar Laurence’s solution to Juliet not wanting to marry Paris is to put her to sleep, to have enough time to ‘die’ before the wedding and not have to marry Paris. He says to Juliet “Hold; get you gone, be strong and prosperous /In this resolve: I'll send a friar with speed/ To Mantua, with my letters to thy lord (IV. i. 123-125). Friar Laurence is sending another Friar with a letter to Romeo to meet Juliet at the cell where all the dead bodies lay. So once Juliet wakes up...
