Since the first day for the T5 was very important for its reputation ,and that solving problems as they occur in an airport can take too much time and therefore cause frustration for passengers.(concurrent control)

2) Information controls, customer interaction controls, and benchmarking

 Information controls could provide the managers with accurate information about the problems that the passengers face and have a clear idea about the occurring events and deviations in the Terminal.
 Customer interaction is crucial in this case because the satisfaction of the passengers with the quality of the services provided is the best indicator for the managers to estimate the effectiveness of the organization and to improve the actual performance.
 Benchmarking which is searching the best practices among competitors or non competitors could have helped the managers to choose better equipment and prevent problems such as understaffing or lack of communication.

3) British Airways ‘controls have been more effective with:
 Better and more realistic tests could have prevented the under-staffed teams.
 Communication with the passengers and especially the inexperienced ones could have limited this chaos and limit their disruption.
 More realistic and harder tests could have shown the problems in the luggage belt system and the baggage system.

Baggage Blunder and Wonders

...1. What type of control – feedforward, concurrent, or feedback – do you think would be most important in this situation? Explain your choice. 2. How might immediate corrective action have been used in this situation? How about basic corrective action?

His recruitment specialist sits glumly across from his desk, pondering what kind of response to give to the inevitable question, “Why are our recruitment costs so high?” Next to the specialist sits James Garrett, a business research consultant who has been hired by the Deland Trucking Company to get a handle on the recruitment expenses the company has seen skyrocket over the last six months. “I just don’t get it,” David sighs in frustration. “We have seen a 45 percent increase in our trucker recruitment advertising costs, and our trucker intake and orientation expenses are killing us! James, I just don’t understand what is happening here.” James and the specialist have had some initial discussions, but there is no easy way to reduce those costs without reducing the number of truckers that Deland hires. “Perhaps we can...

Ben Franklin

...THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF BENJAMIN FRANKLIN WITH INTRODUCTION AND NOTES EDITED BY CHARLES W ELIOT LLD P F COLLIER & SON COMPANY, NEW YORK (1909) INTRODUCTORY NOTE BENJAMIN FRANKLIN was born in Milk Street, Boston, on January 6, 1706. His father, Josiah Franklin, was a tallow chandler who married twice, and of his seventeen children Benjamin was the youngest son. His schooling ended at ten, and at twelve he was bound apprentice to his brother James, a printer, who published the "New England Courant." To this journal he became a contributor, and later was for a time its nominal editor. But the brothers quarreled, and Benjamin ran away, going first to New York, and thence to Philadelphia, where he arrived in October, 1723. He soon obtained work as a printer, but after a few months he was induced by Governor Keith to go to London, where, finding Keith's promises empty, he again worked as a compositor till he was brought back to Philadelphia by a merchant named Denman, who gave him a position in his business. On Denman's death he returned to his former trade, and shortly set up a printing house of his own from which he published "The Pennsylvania Gazette," to which he contributed many essays, and which he made a medium for agitating a variety of local reforms. In 1732 he began to issue his famous "Poor Richard's Almanac" for the enrichment of which he borrowed or composed those pithy utterances of worldly wisdom which are the 1 basis of a large part of his popular reputation...

Never before, I believe, has anything been written enabling us to see so clearly into the soul of a young girl, belonging to our social and cultural stratum, during the years of puberal development. We are shown how the sentiments pass from the simple egoism of childhood to attain maturity; how the relationships to parents and other members of the family first shape themselves, and how they gradually become more serious and more intimate; how friendships are formed and broken. We are shown the dawn of love, feeling out towards its first objects. Above all, we are shown how the mystery of the sexual life first presses itself vaguely on the attention, and then takes entire possession of the growing intelligence, so that the child suffers under the load of secret knowledge but gradually becomes enabled...
