|INTRODUCTION |

|introduction |

1.1. Background of the Study:

Internship program is a pre-requisite for acquiring BBA degree. Before completion of the degree, a student must undergo the Internship program. This report is prepared based on practical knowledge acquired from the internship program and as well as for the fulfillment of degree requirement of BBA, Jagannath University. As the classroom discussion alone cannot make a student perfect in handling the real business situation, therefore, it is an opportunity for the students to know about the real life situation through this program. The program consists of three phases:

▪ The orientation of the Intern with the organization, its function and performance.

▪ The project work pertaining to a particular problem(s) matching with the Intern’s area of specialization and organizational requirement.

▪ The report writing to summarize the Intern’s analysis, findings and achievements in the proceeding of the followings.

As practical orientation is integral part of BBA, I was sent to the Uttara Bank Ltd, Foreign Exchange Branch to have real life exposure on a 90 days internship program (from October 24, 2011 to January 23, 2012. In this paper an attempt was made to analyze the financial performance of seven selected Jordanian commercial banks using simple regression in order to estimate the impact of independent variable represented by; the bank size, asset management, and operational efficiency on dependent variablefinancial performance represented by; return on assets and interest income size. It was found that banks with higher total deposits, credits, assets, and shareholders’ equity does not always mean that has better profitability performance. It was also found that there exists a positive correlation between financial performance and asset size, asset utilization and operational efficiency, which was also confirmed with regression analysis that financial performance is greatly influenced by these independent factors.
