Bar Persons

Bar persons must have flexible hours and must be willing to work a fast paced job that includes long hours on their feet. The bar staff is mainly employed to serve drinks, so they should be proficient at mixing as well as serving drinks and food. Bar persons are expected to train in different parts of the restaurant so they can help out if necessary. Different tasks for them include: serving drinks and food, washing dishes, entertaining customers, organizing and helping with events, and stocking drinks or food. As of the beginning of October, the average salary for a bar person in the United States is $42,000. This salary differs internationally. Bar persons need instruction on state and local laws and regulations concerning the sale of alcohol, cocktail recipes, proper attire and conduct, and stocking a bar. It is very important that any bar person receives their TiPs certification, and passes. Other educational background that a bar person can receive, that is not necessary includes education in customer service, sales and marketing, administration and management, English language, and psychology. Bar person responsibilities include the following: checking IDs to ensure they are serving those of age, making sure to maintain a safe environment, make sure everything is sanitary, keep station clean and organized, know the menu and drink menu items and their prices, and know what each drink contains. Should anything happen in any restaurant bar, the bar staff is responsible for reporting everything to the bar manager, or restaurant manager. Usually the bar manager is notified first and if necessary they will inform the restaurant manager of the situation.
