Baseball Tryout
I approached the turf hearing the sound of metal bats as kids are hitting baseballs against the net. I feel the sweat drip from my head and run down my neck. I watch the other players warm up and notice a garage door against the back of the facility. The turf covering the floor of the facility is divided by four massive nets. I duck under the small openings in the nets and try to dodge all the baseball bags lying on the ground. I have to stop at each net and untangle my bats that keeps finding a way to get stuck in one everytime I duck. I set my bag down by the garage window and felt a cool breeze. I examined the window and noticed there was a massive crack to the right of the window and on the left, the window had a baseball stuck in it. It held onto the ball like a spider holding its prey. I proceeded to join in on the warm ups. I tossed the ball around with some guy I didn’t know. My heart pounded every time I caught the ball, knowing that the coaches’ eyes were directed towards me. I went to two other tryouts and didn't make either team. I wanted to play travel baseball once I reached middle school and made a big decision to stop playing soccer. I had private hitting lessons from a friend of my dad's who coached a younger travel baseball team. He helped me fix my terrible batting stance and I had a lot of confidence in my new swing. Also I would go to the batting cages and to a baseball field near my house to practice and train for the tryout. Looking back at it, I feel like I was prepared for the tryout. All the extra training I went through was worth it because it was able to boost my confidence and I wasn’t as nervous going into the tryout. If I could change one thing, I would continue to train like that after the try out so I could have continued to maintain that kind of
