According to Section 1 of the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.”(1) [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourteenth_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution] This was intended to protect the children of former slaves from discrimination and the denial of life, liberty, and property that was granted to every citizen of the United States by the Constitution. It reinforced parts of The Civil Rights Act of 1866 concerning citizenship to any persons born on US soil. Even though this was enacted almost 150 years ago to resolve a conflict of the immediate time period, it is still in effect. The exploitation of this law by citizens of other countries which enter the United States in a manner other than legally provided by law is costing citizens billions of their tax dollars that are intended for other citizens. “This allows many illegal immigrant mothers to qualify for national, state and local welfare programs. While this process is not explicitly illegal, it does allow otherwise ineligible women to receive welfare benefits.” (2)

“A study released by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) estimates that illegal immigration now costs federal and local taxpayers $113 billion a year.” (3) [http://www.illegalimmigrationstatistics.org/] In a time when budget cuts due to a lack of available funds are threatening the jobs of law enforcement and our education system, we should focus on the needs and welfare of our own before those from other nations. Just as there is an explicit border between states and countries, laws should be enforced as such to protect the actual citizens.

Currently, the United States has set the legal age to drink at 21. The age was once 18; however, society has changed its views concerning this issue. Concert tours consist of many elements that if there is just one hiccup, the domino effect cascades like a waterfall. The transportation logistics is just one piece of many within the structure. Traveling from point A to point B, safely, and on time, is the goal of the transportation element. When just one truck is late with equipment the domino effect starts, costing into the thousands of dollars. Herein sets the scene for lack of communication between sender, the lead truck driver and receiver, the tour manager. From Portland, Oregon, to Chico, California, it is 490 miles, nine hours of driving. That is an average speed of 54.4 miles per hour for nine hours non-stop. That is on flat, straight land. Between Portland and Chico, there are two mountain ranges to cross with an elevation of six to seven thousand feet. If a semi is loaded heavy, traveling speeds up the inclines can get down to 25 to 30 mph. There goes the average traveling speed needed to reach destination within that nine hours.
