Beach Flats Concert Report

The Saving the Beach Flats Community Garden event was overall excited and inspiring. Unlike the kind of political events I saw in Hong Kong and Taiwan that only had quite boring and overwhelming long speech, the beach flats event included both Mexican dance performance and speech. This form of events both serves an political agenda and brings pleasure to everyone who shows up. This garden has more cultural meaning to people than simply being a growing place. Gardeners need their rights and land to make a living, and what's more, pass down the knowledge and tradition. The most striking speech was when they talked about how student activism can make a difference. And it makes we students really want to get involved and do something with their situation. Moreover, I agree with them that this is not a problem in Santa Cruz but a global one which concerns justice, food security, racism, it is culture hostility against minority. They also mentioned that some similar ones that fight for people who …show more content…
The Spanish speech and the Mexican performance present to everyone this place's special culture meaning and food resources for the community. At the same time, I can see why when one of the interns said that "relationship between company and community has lots of discrimination and misrepresents". As an Asian in US, I sometimes find that people in other social groups react negatively to a group of Asian people or an Asian community. The same with this community, that different languages and cultures in a community with a high concentration of minority can create a barrier between inside and outside the community. I remember someone in the event mentioned that the wall with some Mexican heritage paint was whitewashed by the city. I recalled what Professor Fairbairn said about why people become targets of racism and discrimination. I think this is considered an example of institutional

Swatch a Unique Success Story

...1. Swatch is a unique Success story. Why has the company been so successful? Was it important that the Swiss watch industry company recapture the lower end of the market?why? why not? The outstanding success of a Swiss watch manufacturer during the 1980s was the result of a careful and well-executed marketing plan, brought on by necessity. For years the Swiss were world leaders in the watch industry. In 1974 their worldwide market share was 30%. Then the Japanese actively began to produce and market quartz watches, which the Swiss viewed as a passing fashion. Quartz digital watches were, however, no fad and by 1983 the Swiss share of world markets for watches had fallen dramatically to 9%. The Swiss manufacturer SMH carried out extensive research in its watch markets and carefully analysed patterns of consumer behaviour. Marketing experts advised the company that a turnaround was possible if an inexpensive, good-quality quartz analog watch could be developed, since the market was saturated with digitals. Gradually, a marketing plan was devised and implemented resulting in the introduction of the Swatch in 1984, which has since revolutionised the world watch industry. Based on their extensive analysis of consumer behaviour and lifestyle, SMH adopted a strategy that completely changed the concept of a wrist watch. Watches were to be a fashion accessory first and a watch second. They would also be analog rather than digital. Product planning developed...

Much of this growth had been made possible by a highly flexible supply chain which enabled the company to build additional product to fulfill new orders quickly within the selling season, allowing it to respond to unexpectedly high demand—a capability that was previously unheard of in the footwear industry. But the Indian shopping trend shows some rigid type of behavior towards online shopping. They do not trust this shopping style as they have to see and choose a product virtually and pay for it, without any kind of physical touch, which was really difficult to be done in Indian market, but in past 2-3 years the trends have changed at least in metros and big cities.
