Beach Landscape Analysis

For my independent project, I created a watercolor landscape of the beach. This landscape included a sunset filled with silhouettes of seagulls, and a sandy shore with crashing waves. This shore is covered with rocks, and grass which hide the crabs scattering across the shore. I chose to create this project because it tied back to a memory. Before my grandmother passed, she would always take us to the beach when we visited. She taught me how to swim, and even fly kites on the beach. So, when I had started my project I knew I wanted to recreate something from my childhood. I chose to include the crabs on the shore not only to help fill space, but because I also was on the beach the first time I saw a real crab with my grandmother. At the beginning

Art Critique

...Name: Instructor: Course Date: Art Report; critique Critique refers to a systematic and discipline analysis which is always written or can be presented in an oral form. In most cases, critique has been viewed as the acts of analyzing documents, literary work or pictures with an aim of making judgments that are negative and trying to find some faults in the analysis. However, critique does contain some form of recognizing the merits entailed in the subject matter and can be given a philosophical view of a practice that involves doubt. The entire sense of critique has been contemporarily been influenced by the critique of enlighten which involves authority and prejudice. This is always shaped by the autonomy and emancipation from the authorities in the political fronts and the religious authorities. The Florida Scene Florida scene is a pictorial presentation by Thomas Moran. Moran in his presentation greatly bases on nature, which largely is in the center of influencing his art. In his scene, Thomas uses shapes that are predominantly organic and gives his art the natural and environmental taste. Analysis of the artwork The landscape in the artwork presents an irregular scope on the southern side of the landscape accompanied by vegetation which is often rounded and carved. The artwork has the sky and the ocean too. Visible are some trees which have their branches curved and there is a layer of wild flowers and...

Poem Analysis

...Poem Analysis University of Phoenix/ENG/340 Team C Poem Analysis Natural Beauty The language used in this poem is a form of apostrophe as the team addresses a landscape painting (Thiel, 2005, p. 30). The team also used synthesis in the poem, associating an image perceived by our senses with one we have perceived before (Thiel, 2005, p. 31), e.g. a visit to a beach in the summer time. Personification, human characterizes to something nonhuman, was also used “The wind rustles through the grass, adding its voice to that of the waves (Thiel, 2005, p. 30). Metaphor is also used, “the sand sparkles like diamonds”, a comparison in which something is directly described as being something else (Thiel, 2005, p. 33). The words of the poem start out with a state of mind, the word, “tranquility”. This word is powerful in the context of the work; it sets the rhythm for the rest of the poem. The remaining sentences of prose builds on the serenity associated with tranquility, letting the reader get the feel of the painting it describes. As the poem draws to a close, it goes out as it came in, simply. It starts with, “tranquility” and ends with, “captivating”, the person experiencing the painting has observed all of the sights and sounds depicted in the painting and ends up transfixed by the whole experience. William Wordsworth said that poetry is, “the spontaneous overflow of feelings” originating from, “emotion recollected in tranquility”, (Woods, 2002, p. 1). The first stanza...

Theme Park Design Guidelines

...NATURAL LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE FOR BRITISH COLUMBIA’S PROVINCIAL PARKS BC PARKS: PARK DESIGN GUIDELINES & DATA Overview Simplicity in design and restraint in construction creates park facilities suited to what attracts visitors in the first place – recreation in the natural park landscape. q The aim of Park Design Guidelines & Data is to help BC Parks staff use their park expertise to produce appropriate facility landscapes. These guidelines identify design criteria and planning processes for BC Parks staff to provide sustainable, appropriate park recreation facilities. They promote facility design that requires the least visible development. q A design approach to visitor facilities is defined that: Recognizing the facilities are an integral part of a park means reducing the impact of use and basing planning and design decisions on local and regional considerations – for the park environment’s long term health. Maintaining natural park landscapes and environments will help ensure the quality of visitor experiences now and in the future. At neighbouring Bromley Rock Provincial Park and Stemwinder Provincial Park, illustrated left, natural site elements create facilities that blend into the natural park landscapes. These examples show the careful expenditure of resources and the thoughtful use of native materials. What is natural, and what has been constructed? blends with, or complements, natural park landscapes conserves...

Case Anaylisis Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore

...Case Analysis: Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore Stephen Brester Ecology for Sustainable Management SMGT 310 December 15, 2012 Executive Summary Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore is a vast area that is a unit of the National Park System and is also designated as a U.S. National Lakeshore. This park is located in Northwest Indiana, USA, on the southern shores of Lake Michigan. The park is comprised of over 15,000 acres of dunes, oak savannas, swamps, bogs, prairies, rivers, and forests. This park is a great example of a vast and unique environment resulting from the retreat of the last great continental glacier some 14,000 years ago. (1) This park is also located within an urban setting and is closely located to the highly populated industrialized cities of Gary, Indiana and Chicago, Illinois. Early, overharvesting of forests and farming impacted the area’s ecology and resources. Residential and industrial developments over time coupled with climate change have altered natural processes for the environment. Today the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore has a challenge associated with balancing impacts of human actions within fragile natural environments. Restoration plans by resource managers for the area have been focused on mitigating the damage done in the past. The key in restoring the area is planning for the future, limiting new developments, and considering future climate will help aid in the restoration. (1) Background Indiana Dunes National...

Place Attachment- Rio de Janeiro

...Minnesota Abstract Memorable places are mysterious sources of happiness in each person as their remembrances of these arise. Rio de Janeiro has that special ability of brightening up my day simply from the memories that come up as I recall my family and my trip to this unforgettably Marvelous City in 2013. My expectations of this place were based off previous knowledge of its wonderful scenery, which was the main purpose for our destination choice. I soon discovered though, that Rio is a magical place, full of surprises at every corner as smells, touch and taste even, add to the experience of viewing such amazing landscapes. It became a memorable place in no time, as it provided a perfect setting for the formation of pleasant moments with my family. I sensed a bond created between this location and myself throughout the trip, which is understood through the analysis of the place attachment theory. Each of three dimensions in the PPP model used by Scannel and Gifford influenced the way in which this strong connection was formed. The aspects, person, process and place demonstrate how one’s cultural background could create more powerful links between an individual and their immediate environment. The use of space as a method of interaction, or the proxemics theory, also shows reasons why Rio de Janeiro became so memorable to me by explaining how distinct distances are used by different cultures in order to effectively communicate. The Unforgettable Marvelous City Throughout my...

Art History Comparison Paper

...Gretchen Halverson ART-HIST 110 Formal Analysis of Two Landscapes         Landscape painting has been around for many centuries depicting the surroundings from trees and mountains to towns and cities. Landscapes show many naturalistic aspects of the world around us from nature itself to the various architecture and cities, and what we see and interpret can be expressed differently on a canvas. Both Echo Lake, Franconia Mountains, New Hampshire and Field of Poppies are landscape paintings depicting different subject matter within 30 years of each other. Echo Lake, Franconia Mountains, New Hampshire was created in 1861, during the transition between Romanticism and Realism, by Albert Bierstadt. This landscape is made with oil on canvas when Bierstadt went to visit New Hampshire, United States of America. Field of Poppies was created in 1890, during the French Impressionism, by Claude Monet. This landscape is made with oil on canvas during the summer in the poppy field near his house in Giverny. These two paintings shows what the artists saw in their surroundings from the lake to the mountain, and from the field to the trees. Both paintings depict how the artists demonstrate their own interpretation of the landscape in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Bierstadt’s Echo Lake, Franconia Mountains, New Hampshire retains the idealized, realistic view of the landscape by depicting every detail he sees compared to Monet’s Field of Poppies where the landscape strongly incorporates expressive brushwork...

Long Shore Drift at Holderness Means the Coastline Requires Management

...For my GCSE controlled assessment I will be investigating the hypothesis ‘long shore drift at Holderness means the coastline requires management’. Throughout this investigation I will be looking at these key processes in details: The process of Erosion; Long shore drift; transport of sediment along the coast; Coastal Management; and Hard Engineering. On the 18th of November our year 11 Geography class went to visit the East coast of England. We went there to collect data and evidence about coastal management along the Holderness coastline. We visited Mappleton and Withernsea and observed the sea defences there; afterwards we visited Spurn Point to look at the affect old sea defences how there and see a spit formation. To start off my investigation I went to Mappleton first. Mappleton is a small village and a civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire. It is approximately 3 miles south from the seaside resort, Hornsea. It has many sea defences protecting the coast from erosion with its population increasing to 342, there may be a demand in more sea defences. After Mappleton, I went to Withernsea and then spurn point. Mapleton and Withernsea both have chalk cliffs that are eroding away, the sediment is then being deposited at Spurn point. The five key terms that I will be focusing on are the process of erosion, long shore drift, transport of sediment along the coast, coastal management and hard engineering. Holderness coast Holderness coast We compared the data we collected...
