Lila’s central argument is that there are two methods of discussion used by Bedouins, one that shows honor and humility and another which is the complete opposite, having people that display emotions that might expropriate a position of honor. The ambiguity is used as proof by Lila in which she states that “it is impossible to reduce Bedouin culture to the official social and moral ideals encapsulated in the code of honor and modesty” (Abu-Lughod 1999: p. 17).
