Introduction I have always had thoughts and dreams about what my career would be from a young age. When I was about eight, I wanted to be a singer and around ten, an actor. As I continued with my schooling, I discovered I had an interest in math. I loved the subject when everyone else hated it. In high school, I made the decision to be an accountant. As time went one, I elected not to go to college straight out of high school. As I went from one dead end job to the next, the decision to go back to school was easy to make because I wanted to have a sustainable career to take care of the family I’d created. I choose the major business administration with a concentration in accounting. As I continued my schooling, I came across a full- time job with CSL Plasma. I enjoy doing the job so now I face the decision on whether I would like to continue my career with them or to pursue being an office manager in another facility. This paper will cover me weighing my options of my career path and ultimately making a decision on what I will

Beginning of Deforestation Essay

...To chop or not to chop The article to chop or not to chop is about how deforestation of the Amazon from Brazil has negative and positive effects on both the environment and the economy of either the countries or the world, it is debating whether or not the Amazon should be cut down to improve Brazils economy or whether it should be left alone and protected. The rainforest is being chopped down mainly due to land and money, because in Brazil their main source of income is from logging, also it is caused by farmers who are looking for land to grow more crops to go in and chop them down to create more space for their crops and for cattle ranching. The government wants to cut it down because it is improving their economy due to the increased value of wood being exported from Brazil and they don’t want this to stop as it is improving their economy and so improving the quality of living for their population. The good things about the Amazon being cut down is that it improves the economy of Brazil by increasing the amount of available jobs and by improving their trade with other countries, it also benefits us due to us being able to get cheaper imported wood. Also it increases the area that people can live in due to their being more space for houses and families so that their standard of life can be improved. The bad things about the Amazon being cut down is that there are less trees to absorb carbon dioxide because each year it absorbs about 1.5 billion tons of carbon dioxide...

Managing Transitions Making Most of Change

...with change itself, but rather with transitions. The change is the situation, i.e., the new boss, the move, the reorganization, etc. The transition is “psychological. It is the three-phased process people go through as they internalize and come to terms with the details of the new situation that the change brings about.” “People have to bring their hearts and minds to work,” so when change comes along, “transition management…is a way of dealing with people that makes everyone feel more comfortable.” The first phase is Letting Go—the ending of the old. People need to deal with their losses. Next is the “neutral zone,” when the old is gone and the new is not fully operational. Psychological realignments take place. And then there is the new beginning. People develop a new identity, experience new energy and purpose, and make change begin to happen. How to Get People to Let Go You start by identifying who will suffer losses and try to understand them. You sympathize publicly and permit people to grieve. Find ways to compensate (non-financial) for the losses, if possible. Of course, communication is a top priority, clearly defining details over and over is important. Ceremonies to “mark the ending” are appropriate to honor the past. Leading People Through the Neutral Zone Marilyn Ferguson, an American Futurist, has described the neutral zone as “Linus when his blanket is in the dryer. There is nothing to hold on to.” Anxiety and self-doubt are up; motivation and efficiency are down. Many...

Strength and Challenge

...Enrolling in a college course was a new beginning for me because I haven’t been very good when it comes down to writing essays. But with the hard work and dedication that I put in this course I surprisingly became a much better one. I came into this class prepared, and knowing that it would be difficult and a new change compared to any other class I have taken before. This course has exposed me to many different writing technique and different writing skills that helped improve my writing in everyway possible. Throughout this English 1301 class I have learned self discipline, and how to handle stress. English is not quite my favorite subject, but during this course I discovered my weaknesses and strongest areas. As the days progressed during the course so did the challenges I had to overcome. One of my personal challenges I faced was the word count I had to meet in order to complete the assignment. By having a certain limit I had to reach not only made me use more details but challenged me in elaborating the topic I was talking about. In any college class you are expected to meet these high standards which I found very difficult but progressed within time and became better at writing more sufficient. Another obstacle I faced during the course was the four letter word time. Time played a crucial role in this course because it kept me from slacking off, and taught me to put school before anything else. At the beginning of the course we were given a syllabus of assignments...

What Is the Relationship Between Rebranding and Regenerating?

...What is the relationship between rebranding and regeneration? Though the two concepts are often confused or used synonymously, rebranding and regeneration refer to two very different (but intrinsically linked) aspects of creating a new identity or “fresh start” for something, or somewhere. Regeneration typically refers to encouraging growth and restoration in an area that has previously displayed symptoms of decline, primarily the economy but also relating to other social, economic and environmental aspects of an area. Nonetheless, it is an essential aspect of creating a new beginning for an area because without a stable economic foundation, an area can struggle to grow and strive as it lacks the financial capability to continue expanding. Regeneration is seen as a long and continuous process that transforms a depleting area (in terms of economy and physical features) into a growing, stable area. Rebranding, however, refers to a much more varied and inclusive type of change – instead focussing on developing a place to change or improve its image and public opinion. This usually consists of two different actions: regeneration and reimaging. Rebranding as a concept usually includes regeneration as one of the two fundamental steps to positively transform or rebrand an area. Unlike regeneration, rebranding focuses on improving the actual physical infrastructure and environment of an area – the “inside” – as well as improving the public opinion towards the area and making...

Beginning of Poetry Anthology Essay

...Poetry essay Both William Shakespeare and Cristiana Rossetti present love as a hard felt, powerful emotion. Both poets also refer to the theme of death in both their both poems ‘Remember’ and ‘Sonnet 116’. However Shakespeare presents love in a much more positive way where as Rossetti presents the theme of loss throughout. William Shakespeare presents the Theme of love as eternal despite the impediments that may be faced over time such as the loss of a partner and the fading of external beauty through aging; the emotion remains robust. This is implied when Shakespeare personifies death through referencing the Grim reaper’s “Bending sickle” Connoting that beauty is fading upon the upcoming of death however “love alters not” implying love’s strength through time as resolute. Whereas Rossetti refers more to the theme of grief and presents the idea of love when faced with loss and change as transitory. This is connoted when the Persona says that it is “better to forget” when what appears to be directing her partner. Suggesting that the inevitability of death and the change it brings will break the ties of love despite its strength. Both poets use personification when referencing death. Shakespeare personifies death twice within the third quatrain using fairly harsh, frightening imagery: “the edge of doom”. This suggests the persona views death’s inevitability as negative, which juxtaposes the poems theme throughout being love’s continuous strength despite unavoidable...

Lemon Snicket’s

...This film starts with a “cheerful” animation of elves singing and dancing with animals and flowers. It was supposed to be cheerful animation, yet to me, it seemed creepy because the animals were not as cute as Disney animals, flowers had mouths but no eyes, and the elves looked like creepy dolls just like in horror films like “Dead Silence” and it became more creepy when the cheerful animation stopped and dissolved into a grave yard shot, and the narrator started explaining that it was not the type of movie we were about to watch. When the narrator starts introducing the three orphans, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny. The first shot looked similar to the painting “Persistence of Memory” by surrealist painter Salvador Dali. In each shot, one of them was in a barren field surrounded by a body of water with a few dead trees. It was expressing the loneliness of the children and was as if telling, if they make a mistake, they will die. The title of Dali’s painting matched with one of the children Klaus’s characteristic too. Klaus remembered everything he reads; “Persistence of Memory.” House of Count Olaf was very Gothic. His entrance door shape was a pointed arch. As soon as the children come inside the house, there are flying buttresses around the entrance. Most of the light source looked like sunlight through the windows, which is another characteristic of Gothic architecture. Natural lighting made the interior look cold and dirty. The word “Gothic” was used by Giorgio Vasari to...

A Blank Canvas

...Why is it that when left with a blank sheet of paper, people sometimes can’t help but quiver? A sudden rush of fear and anxiety hangs over them. For a student or scholar in particular, it is not simply the beginning to reach the end of the test or the ‘be all end all’ in achieving something worthwhile in life. It provides the user with a key to delve into the realm of imagination with the purpose of gaining happiness or life’s true meaning. Imagination is something which is unique to ever individual on earth past or present, because like the world we live in, imagination is in constant change, adaption and always learning. When unlocked and encompassed with the power of the mind, imagination can achieve endless means in theory. For an artist this may be a chance to create something new, something colourful or perhaps even dark. For a scholar it creates a chance of expression through words. Right to expression however, is key to any successful contemporary or classical work most importantly. Whether for good or bad intentions it creates the basis for which to explore and perhaps even indulge. A blank canvas creates a new beginning. Like a second chance in life, an empty sheet can give an individual a new beginning and allows him/her to forget the past, it is no longer relevant, unless the artist depicts it that way. If it were not for blank canvases nothing new would ever be imagined just simply copied, tweaked and regurgitated in another...

Summer Solstice By Sharon Olds

...situation provides a huge amount of evidence to the theme of building relationships or serving others. This type of behavior is what police officers are wanted to do, to build a relationship with the community. Not only was the theme used to portray the author’s purpose, but also symbolism in the poem. Symbolism is another issue depicted in Old’s poem. Symbolism is used throughout the poem to describe the setting and to describe a new beginning. Olds states, “. . .while the man’s leg hung over the lip of the next world. . .” (74). This symbolizes how close the man was to falling to his death. The author writes, “. . .and the hairy net with its implacable grid was unfolded near the curb and spread out and stretched as the sheet is prepared to receive birth” (74). This represents his new chance of life, similar to a newborn out of its mother’s womb. Another form of symbolism is when the author states, “. . .and the red, glowing ends burned like the tiny campfires we lit at night back at the beginning of the world” (75). This is a representation of the new beginning this man acquired after he changed his mind. Symbolism is used to tie in the author’s purpose. The author’s purpose of the poem is to show awareness or inform us about the realities of suicide. Although Olds does not state it directly, we can draw inferences from her poem. Throughout her poem, she uses descriptive language to show the reader that even in hard times, positive outcomes are possible. Olds writes, “. . .and the...

...and a train. Now this does not sit well with someone when it is in the middle of winter and you feel like the city is just eating you up. It was at that point where I figured college life was not for me. Transitioning from a place where I knew plenty of people to an environment that was completely made of strangers also contributed to my decision on leaving college. Now here I am attending college, it feels like things have come full circle; I am now laying the foundation for my children setting the example that I did not have while I was growing up. As for my future, I am looking forward to gaining more experience through more watershed moments and hopefully I have the awareness to enjoy the transition from the ending to the new beginnings. Situation Analysis When I was 18 years old going to college living with my parents, I have made up my mind to drop out of college and join the military. I did not know...

Understand and Coping with Change

...Understanding and Coping with Change Stephanie Anderson BUS610 Organizational Behavior Instructor: Shawna Wentlandt August 19, 2013 We live in exhilarating times.  Western civilization is witnessing the greatest changes everywhere since the Industrial Revolution.  If we want a deeper understanding of the prospect of change, we are forced to pay heed to our own powerful inclinations to avoid change.  Most people have a low tolerance for change because we are individuals of habit that follow mindless daily routines.  In nature, growth involves periodic accelerations and transformations.  Initially, things appear to progress slowly.  Nothing seems to occur when suddenly, an egg shell cracks, a blossom blooms, or a butterfly emerges.  In fact, when it comes to forces of nature, the most widely addressed and studied topic is what physicists call entropy – the process by which dynamic systems that include (a) people, (b) organizations, (c) automobiles, and (d) solar systems, gradually fall apart.  It is hard to make significant changes in any human group without changing an individual’s behavior and the underlying meaning that gives rise to their behavior (Kegan & Lahey, 2001).  Once change does occur, it is inevitably disruptive.  The fact is Americans in general have always been in some state of transition with Old World families that can be traced back to the home of their ancestors.  New destinations and new career opportunities keep people moving driven by faith...

The Lotery Essay

...Jose Luis Herrera Castillo. Foun 101. Aly Covington. Personal Narrative. 22nd October 2015. “Every day we are one step closer to filmmaking being as easy as taking out the brush and oils for a painting” (Veneruso, 1998). I was born in Barquisimeto, Venezuela on June 21, 1994. I grew up believing in self-expression, showing yourself and never hiding who you really are from others, part of my envelopment as a child and a teenager has been surrounded by political issues, involving my country into sad and hard situations, destroying our culture, education and economy, forcing and scaring the people who decided to trust into a different opinion against the government, those ones will be recognized as “Traitors” and “Enemies of the nation” at least that was the way they used to call them. The visual arts means to me as a way to escape from reality and open our minds to others, to make them understand that there’s a another world outside complete different as the one who we live in now. At the age of seven, my father took me into a Father-son trip to the beach, where he gave me my first camera, an Instant water proof Kodak, one of the most beautiful gifts that i’m still appreciating from hem. Since then I have been feeling a passion for the Films and Photography a passion who becomes an intuitive path that guides me through life. For me films are about romance, adventures, tears, laughs and smiles, more than recording with a video camera, doing a film involves...

...viewpoint to Will’s, and in the movie it changes when we as viewer follows Marcus’s actions to Will’s. We know what Marcus and Will thinks, which gives us a perspective from several different angles and in this case keeps the story fresh and exciting. The author has done an incredibly good job, as he has managed not to lose the viewer/reader through the multiple viewpoints, and that is because the transitions are well done. The narrator is a 3rd person narrator and it is character-bounded to Marcus and Will. In the movie and the book, there are two main characters – Marcus and Will, who both are round characters because they develop much though the story. Marcus is a special 12-year old boy and seems very grown-up for his age. In the beginning of the story he is very influenced by his mother, Fiona, but as the story...
