Tim Berta’s presentation on the bus wreck and how it has affected him and how he is getting through it with a positive attitude was very inspiring. Being a valedictorian and two-sport athlete in college, life never seemed so good. Tim was a humble guy who had qualities about him that would allow him to do what he wanted to do later in life. After the wreck, basically not being able to do anything that he use to be able to do must have been the hardest thing to stay positive in those situations. Personally I believe the slide show Tim presented with the four seasons will stick with me the most and have the most impact on my life in the future. For Tim to stay positive in the light of all setbacks and difficulties is truly amazing not only on a personal level but also a mental level as the tasks he had to go through and cope with. Going forward in my life I think I will take advantage of everything I have and no matter the situation to stay positive and keep encouraging my self throughout all my seasons whether the times are tough or great. I also think that people cannot be taken for granted in your life. Everyone needs to let the people they care about, know that they do everyday. You never know what may happen to someone on any given day. Tim Berta is truly an inspirational person who’s story will stick with me the rest of life of how in the light of a tragic event he was able to with the help of family and friends persevere, and with a positive and determined attitude overcome multiple setbacks that doctors and surgeons said he more than likely would never be able to do

Bamboo Flowers

...BAMBOO FLOWERS Reaction Paper Submitted to: Dr. Carmen Decierdo, PhD Submitted by: Dianne Michelle Daquio “BAMBOO FLOWERS” Written by: Aloy Adlawan Directed by: Maryo de Los Reyes “Bamboo Flowers” presents a three-story script intertwined into one. The film talks about married life and single blessedness life of young and other strangers, about students’ aspirations and ambitions, about sons and daughters of farmers, about tourist guides, cultural workers, children and ordinary people, about tourists who visit the province. “Bamboo Flowers” are literally the chandelier-shaped bamboo leaves/flowers which bloom on the bamboo trees that are in the final stages of death. This paradox is evident in the life in these islands where traditions maybe dying because times do change and because progress has bloomed and new things, outlooks, beliefs and practices have been introduced. Thus, there is erosion of traditions and since, there are new things to look forward to, there are also beliefs and practices that have to be abandoned or left behind. This movie written by Aloy Adlawan is directed by Maryo de Los Reyes as his entry to this year’s Sining Pambansa, All Masters’ Edition National Film Festival. It is his tribute to his roots, particularly to his mother who hails in Alicia, Bohol; to the memories of his childhood visits to this island province; to its rich heritage and traditions; to its lushness and beautiful landscapes, and most especially to its people. The film will also...

The Changes In West Germany

...Thus we understand the grandparents’ reason for so staunchly supporting nuclear power: it “now belongs to the modern age like the car or the television” —they literally cannot imagine a West Germany without such comforts (12). This is especially relevant after the disaster at Grafenrheinfeld, which “makes [West Germans] poor,” and thereby provokes a crisis of West German identity (110). Visiting Janna-Berta in a makeshift hospice, her aunt Helga is astonished at the “[u]nbelievable state of things here…and this in the Bundesrepublik” (82). Indeed, her shock registers with another nearby who is quick to reply, “you’re not up to date…now we’re a developing country” (82). Here, Helga is shocked that such poverty can even exist in West Germany, while her counterpart already feels compelled to redefine his nation’s place in the world because of it. This way, Pausewang’s West Germans rally around poverty very much like they do Russianness: to be poor is not to be West German, and therefore to be West German is not to be...

Alone in the house, Rosina muses on the voice that has touched her heart and resolves to outwit Bartolo. Figaro joins her, but they leave on hearing footsteps. Bartolo enters with the music master, Don Basilio, who tells him Almaviva is a rival for Rosina's hand and advises slandering the nobleman's reputation. Bartolo agrees, but Figaro overhears them. Warning Rosina that Bartolo plans to marry her himself the very next day, the barber promises to deliver a note she has written to "Lindoro." Rosina, alone with Bartolo, undergoes an interrogation, then listens to his boast that he is far too clever to be tricked. Berta, the housekeeper, answers violent knocking at the door, returning with Almaviva disguised as a drunken soldier in search of lodging. While arguing with Bartolo, Almaviva manages to slip a love letter to Rosina. But when Bartolo demands to see the letter, the girl substitutes a laundry list. Figaro dashes in to warn that their hubbub has attracted a crowd. Police arrive to silence the disturbance. As an officer...

...imagine, someone got lost on their way to a friend’s house, but they do not have a paper map with them. This person only needs his or her smartphone and a cell signal to find where they are and how to get to the friend’s house. It would also be difficult to find a professional workplace of any kind that does not use computers. The use of computers in the workplace allows for increased efficiency by improving candidate screening and speeding up the work flow process with less human error (Ramey). Some people even depend on technology in the workplace to stay organized. Mr. Berta, a computer teacher at the Hazleton Area Academy of Sciences, claims that, without technology, he would lose almost any important document for his classes. The levels upon levels of filing within technology allow him to stay organized. “Technology gives people who are generally unorganized a sense of organization and security” (Berta). Mr. Berta is just one person in a world of people who use technology to give them an edge in the workplace. Technology has become an integral part of both society and the workplace that can never be...

...Literary Review of “Hedda Gabler” Karyn Bentley Galen College of Nursing     Literary Review of “Hedda Gabler” Never, able to find true happiness, Hedda settled for what society deemed she should; a wife, the perfect host, and soon to be mother. The only true happiness Hedda enjoyed was causing unhappiness for others as she manipulated others into sharing their secrets. Not even Hedda was immune to her games as she desperately tried to amuse herself by creating chaos for others. Hedda’s fear of scandal ended in what she described as beautiful but others found insignificant. Major Themes The first major theme is one of individual versus the group or society, Hedda is constantly trying to manipulate to obtain some type of happiness. Ibsen takes great care to reveal Hedda’s manipulative behavior is the result of her desire to have some power over her life and she can only do that by trying to gain power over others in “the group”. Ibsen reveals to the reader, Hedda is nothing more than a victim to the pressures of society placed on women in Norway in 1890. Hedda marries a man who she does not love, simply because she was running out of time according to society’s clock. The reader is left unsure for quite a while if Hedda is pregnant or not but Hedda will have children not because she desires to be a mother but because she is supposed to. Self-Liberation versus Self Renunciation is another major theme Ibsen exhibits out of Hedda’s belief that the only or ultimate...

...Competition, Oligopoly and Monopoly. The first market structure that we will discuss is perfect competition. Perfect competition is a theory that is composed of six assumptions that if a market meets all six assumptions, then the market can be considered as a perfectly competitive environment and no individual or company has power to manipulate the market in their favor or increase the price of the item or service. “Perfect competition, neutralizes these strategic behaviors and conflictual interactions, resulting in the elimination of these distributions conflicts…perfect competition (associated with constant returns) dissolves these conflicts of appropriation since every individual can be paid according to his marginal contribution” (Berta, Julien, Tricou, 2012, Pg. 7). The first assumption in a perfect competition is that there is a large number of sellers/producers that saturate the market resulting in no single seller having the ability to affect the price in the industry. The second is that there is a large number of consumers/buyers allowing the market to be safe...

Conflict and Decision Making

...Conflict, Decision Making, and Structure Paul McKenzie Strayer University Leadership and Organizational Behavior Bus 520 Dr. Keith W. Langner December 20, 2012 Conflict, Decision Making, and Structure From the inception of time, the human race has been experiencing and grappling with conflicts of all kinds—both internally and externally. In most recent years, however, conflicts in the workplace have become more prevalent due to diverse cultures, organizational structures, and workplace dynamics such as stress, discrimination, cultural difference, idiosyncrasy, pay inequality, grievance and dispute, and others. These prevailing conditions have and are affecting organizations of all sizes. As a result, many companies are forced to implement guidelines and strategies so as to mediate, mitigate, manage, reconcile, and resolve such existing conditions in a more effectively manner, while creating better-working environments. Having said that, this paper intends to objectively address four given scenarios surrounding conflict, decision making, and organizational design. Those scenarios will be addressed in the following sequence: (1) negotiation strategies used to address potential conflicts in the workplace, (2) evidence-based management and its relevant application, (3) analysis regarding effective methods and creative-decision making, (4) and environmental and strategic factors that affect the organizational design of a researched company. Negotiation...

Silvio Carrillo's Argument Analysis

...non-action against their leader’s regime. A foremost idea voiced in this editorial is the wide-spread corruption surrounding Hernández’s regime. Initially, Carrillo states the problems with Hernández’s rule: “The list is long: widely documented corruption, illegal changes to the constitution, documented ties to drug traffickers, attacks on a free press, criminalization of peaceful protests, repeated violations of human rights by security forces, one of the highest crime rates in the world, manipulation of homicide statistics that affect Honduras’s access to United States aid and a permissive attitude toward political assassinations.” After that section, Carrillo includes that one of the victims of the assassinations was his own aunt, Berta Caceres. Every part is an appeal towards pathos, as it spurs a response of outrage, disappointment, and pity from the reader. Thus, it allows Carrillo’s message about Hernández’s regime to stick further in the reader’s minds, perhaps encouraging their own opinions against him. Still, none of these issues should be overlooked, as they attack key principles of society and individual freedoms. Moreover, another way Carrillo shows how corrupt this election and regime is to him is through his explanation of the votes and protests. “The electoral commission, composed predominantly of supporters of Mr. Hernández, suspended announcements about the count for serval hours. When its updates resumed, the president was in the lead, setting off deep suspicions...
