Introduction:
In this Experiment, the solvent that was tested was used to find the amount of Betacyanin released in a hydrochloric acid solution. By choosing this solvent because of its acidic nature. Hydrochloric acid (HCL) also known as muriatic acid is very similar in characteristics to the gastric acid that is found in the stomach. Therefore just like stomach acid, hydrochloric acid is a very highly corrosive acid, so it can cause severe permanent damage to the eyes, skin, and mucous membrane. Safety precautions must be taken when handling this hazardous material. Beets are very concentrated with lots of betacyanin present in its cells giving it a rich dark red, purplish color.
