The novel I read was called Stung by Bethany Wiggins. This book is about a girl named Fiona who doesn’t remember going to sleepbut remembers being a thirteen-year-old . But when her slumber ends and she wakes up, the world she once knew does not look like the one that once exsited. She is a grown seventeen-year-old, her house is abandon and broken, the neighborhood barren and alone, and a tattoo imprinted on Fiona’s right hand, one she recalls not getting. However, she knows that she must conceal it at all cost because there is a reason why it is on her arm as well as why the world became to be destroyed. The protagonist of this book is Fiona. In the beginning of the book, Fiona wakes up with a strange tattoo on one of her hands, “an oval with ten legs. A mark”(pg. 4). Fiona, a seventeen-year-old, who wakes up confused and disoriented. She is in her bedroom where it is filthy and abandoned. Her family is nowhere to be seen and has come to a strange tattoo on her right hand. The tattoo was meant to be a protective sign against a deadly flu virus that had spread worldwide not long after the bee population became extinct. However, the vaccine had a horrific side effects, turning people into vicious, mindless, ravening beasts. In the post-bee, pemdemic world , the few healthy people live iside the Wall. A militia patrols the outside, protecting the Wall’s inhabitants from those infected. The tattoo that marks Fiona has labeled her as a beast. Everyone wants to kill her or even capture her for honey as a trade, as honey is rare and can garentee a place inside the wall if given a large amount, that is. She then captured by the militia, where she suprisenly finds an ally in Bowwen.
