In Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates, he describes Howard University as Mecca a place of guidance for his life.During his time in college he came across with many kinds of African people who made him believe that power was restore to them by seeing students diversity. He was admitted in the institution where his grandfather worked and family members who assisted graduated from Howard.Throughout his time in the institution he learned more of the history of African American lives. For most of the part he expressed his ideals through his favorite readings because it allow him to explore more about black history. Coates describes that classrooms were not for him because he was not interested in his classes , and he was only to be in the libraries were he enjoyed reading to expand his vocabulary and learning. In addition, I find it interesting how he explains Mecca becomes part of his body and how he figures out his identity in college. For example he says“And really what it showed me is, even within what seems like a narrow band, which is to say, you know, black life, is in fact quite cosmopolitan, is in fact a beautiful”.In Howard he learned a lot of many cultures and religion that allow him to thinking critically . Although, he did not obtain a college degree he experienced many opportunities for him. For example, he was a journalist who everyone trusted, in handing him stories because he was great in being confident in himself. Coates felt admirable and it allow him to be more sociable with many people he didn't was going to make friends because he was an outsider. The birth of his son made him never give up because he wanted to set an example to his child. ...Rodney King, Eric Garner, Renisha McBride, John Crawford, Tamir Rice, Marlene Pinnock, Dontre Hamilton, Ezell Ford, Tanisha Anderson, Akai Gurley, Freddie Gray, and Tony Robinson are just some of the many unarmed African Americans killed by the police within recent years. Ta-Nehisi Coates’ book, Between the World and Me, discusses these injustices. He addresses these topics to his son, Samori. He also discourses his memoir towards white Americans so he can bequeath awareness about what it is like to grow up African American. Coates discussed growing up as an African American in the Baltimore projects. He argues about the inequalities of the public-school system and about white Americans stuck in “the Dream” (Coates 11). “The Dream” is the ingroup favoritism of white...

Between The World And Me Analysis

...“Between the World and Me” is a book by Ta-Nehisi Coates about the history of Americans taking advantage of the fact that they have created a system of oppression and discrimination against black people. The narrative is expressed in the form of a letter addressed to his son, through a collection of stories and experiences, from the author’s perspective as someone who lives under the repressive system. Coates’ principal message to the audience is that despite the fact that American society is set up in opposition to the success of black people, black people must not stop struggling to continue to fight for equality. The first takeaway I got from this book is that it has a largely negative focus on the relationship between “Americans who believe that they are white,” and black people. From my personal perspective, while it is important to understand the negative, Coates failed to provide the audience with a balance. There are some positive instances in the relationship between white and black people, in...

Analysis Of Ta-Nehisi Coates Between The World And Me

...In the book “Between the World and Me” by Ta-Nehisi Coates, a large emphasis was put on how the oppression of black life has impacted him as well as others in the black community. In a letter to his son, Coates begins with his experience on a talk show where he was asked about his body, to which he responds honestly that American history is to blame. He feels as though there is a palpable distinction between the hosts’ body and his own as a result of the history of oppression black people faced at the hand of white america. Ultimately, the most prevailing message of this book is that the success and progress of white america was made possible at the expense of black bodies. Coates mentions the racist murders of Eric Garner, Mike Brown, John...

...Handbook by William Ellet) A case, at its simplest level, is a real-world situation in which you, the marketing professional, are expected to use your critical thinking skills to figure out what to do. As in most real-world situations, you have neither enough information or time to really address the problem, and you also have a million other things going on at the same time. So rather than thrashing about aimlessly, this mini-guide is intended to give you a skeleton of an approach that may be useful in analyzing these cases. The first step in any case analysis is to actively read the case. That means going through it carefully and making notes in the margins, highlighting, or whatever other methods you typically use to understand what is really going on in the case. Treat the case like a mystery novel – try to unravel the complex web of information (and sometimes disinformation) that is presented. Typically the cases will be tied to the chapter of the text we are currently reading, but that is not always the case. If appropriate, think about the principles we are discussing for that chapter and see if they apply to that particular case or not. The instructor (me) is not always good about fitting the cases and the chapters together, and these are general purpose cases not necessarily oriented to a Product Management course, so there may not be the perfect overlap that would happen in a perfect world, or somewhere like Harvard. All cases are self-contained – all the information...

Feminist Analysis on Blood Wedding

...Value: 5.9 (B+) Feminist Analysis Of Lorca’s “Blood Wedding” REHANA KOUSAR NIDA SARFRAZ Department of English Government College University, Faisalabad Pakistan Abstract: This study explores Feminism in Lorca’s play, ‘Blood Wedding’. Feminism asserts that women are treated as ‘sex objects’, non-significant other and witches. This study analyzes Blood Wedding at four levels; 1. Biological level 2. Linguistic level 3. Socio-cultural level 4. Psychoanalytical level coined by Elaine Showalter. Lorca deals with women in his drama as submissive. He praises their beauty but neither gives women names nor any choice of free will. Women are nameless and without any status. His society also promotes the concepts of submissive women and rejects bossy women. Images which are used for women, women language, their psyche and Spanish Society in Blood Wedding Proves that it is a Feminist play. Key words: “Blood Wedding”, feminism, F. G. Lorca, submissive women Introduction: Feminism asserts that men either consciously or unconsciously have oppressed women, allowing them a little or no voice in the political, social and economic issues of their society. By not giving voice and value to women’s opinion, responses and writings, men have suppressed the female, defined what it means to be feminine and thereby devoiced, devalued and trivialized what it means to be a woman. Bridge Truss

...fascinated me. Having the tools to analyze the loads on the truss further increased my interest in structures. I encountered the bridge in a textbook for my first engineering class. Knowing that the professor, Mr. John Doe, was a tough teacher, I asked him for the textbook so I could study and get ready for the class over the summer. Just arrived from Belize, I was determined to succeed. In class we learned about forces on simple members and then we put the members together to form a simple truss. At this point I had almost decided that structural engineering was the career for me. From there the class just took off: We went on to frames, distributed loads, considered friction; basically we were incorporating real world considerations into structural members. I loved the practical, problem solving aspects of the field. At UC my classes were even more advanced. In my analysis and design classes, I especially enjoyed studying steel design because we not only learned the use of the load resistance factor design but also applied that knowledge — I designed a four-story building. The professor was a practicing engineer, and he always related the subject to real life steel structures he had engineered, for example, the SB Medical Center, an all steel building with a base isolated campus. This is the kind of project on which I would like to work, designing the structure and considering how the building will respond to ground motion. After two quarters of structural analysis, I had...

Women and the Inequalities of the Art World

...Log My Personal Interest Project topic was chosen with my micro world in mind, due to my interest in art as well as being a Visual Art student. Through studying gender roles during my Visual Art course and exploring social exclusion in Society and Culture, it compelled me to want to learn more about the representation of women within the art world. As a socially aware individual with an interest in art, I felt the need to explore these inequalities to see if they still exist and how this may impact on other young artists. The research methods that I chose were interview, statistical analysis and content analysis, which would provide me qualitative results, as well as quantitative by being able to collect data and statistics. Originally, I planned on conducting a focus group discussion, however as my project progressed, I decided on content analysis as it allowed me to observe a variety of sources and immerse myself in the art world. By choosing an interview I was able to gain insightful knowledge from four females who were either art curators or historians and one male who is an art historian. This gave me qualitative results as I was able to receive in-depth answers from numerous people and allowed and exploration of my cross-cultural by interviewing both genders and gaining their perspectives on this. However, there were some limitations such as by completing my interviews through e-mail, I was not able to ask any follow up questions for answers to be further elaborated...

The Importance of Studying Accounting Theory

...Conceptual Framework Most research reports cast the problem statement within the context of a conceptual or theoretical framework.4 A description of this framework contributes to a research report in at least two ways because it (1) identifies research variables, and (2) clarifies relationships among the variables. Linked to the problem statement, the conceptual framework “sets the stage” for presentation of the specific research question that drives the investigation being reported. For example, the conceptual framework and research question would be different for a formative evaluation study than for a summative study, even though their variables might be similar. Scholars argue that a conceptual or theoretical framework always underlies a research study, even if the framework is not articulated.5 This may seem incongruous, because many research problems originate from practical educational or clinical activities. Questions often arise such as “I wonder why such an event did not [or did] happen?” For example, why didn't the residents' test-interpretation skills improve after they were given feedback? There are also occasions when a study is undertaken simply to report or describe an event, e.g., pass rates for women versus men on high-stakes examinations such as the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1. Nevertheless, it is usually possible to construct at least a brief theoretical rationale for the study. The rationale in the USMLE example may be, for...

Labour Productive

...with 6 member states. In 2009 there are 27 member states, and a large number of countries around the world have association agreements with the EU, notably those countries of the Mediterranean and the developing world. The goal of the EU is to become ‘the most competitive and dynamic knowledge based economy in the world’ (El-Agraa 2004: 433). Standard economic theory dictates that innovation, education and investment will be instrumental in the achievement of this goal. It is my intention in this essay to assess the impact of these factors upon labour productivity within the European Union member states. The explanatory variables that I have decided to look at are as follows: • The percentage of adults in training • Public spending on research & development (as a percentage of GDP) • Science and technology graduates per 1000 population • Internet access at home (percentage of population) • Foreign Direct Investment (net inflows as a percentage of GDP) • Public spending on education (as a percentage of GDP) These variables will be assessed against the dependent variable of labour productivity, for which an index series is used, with 100 representing the EU-27 as a whole. Economic theory would predict all of my explanatory variables to have a positive effect on labour productivity, and it is this which I am going to investigate using statistical analysis. The 27 member states of the European Union can be considered a natural sample, and although the...

The reasons could be attributed by the increase of awareness, growth of education, development of information technology, and expansion of television and print media in Bangladesh. This paper aims at identifying the preference factors of fast food consumers living in Dhaka city. This study was conducted among the university students who are used to take fast food at their leisure time. To conduct the study, a total of 250 respondents were interviewed with a structured questionnaire. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were used in analyzing the data. Multivariate analysis like factor analysis was performed to identify the preference factors of the fast food consumer. Multiple regressions were conducted to identify the relationship between the factors identified through factor analysis and the overall measure...

Harry Potter Lit Review

...Communication Studies November 20, 13 Review of Literature: The Rhetoric of Harry Potter Every so often there are stories that take the world by storm and make such an impact that they become part of our everyday world. (Czubek et al. 442) Jk Rowling’s Potter book series is by far one of the most loved series by adults and children for over sixteen years. First published in 1997, the world has fallen in love with Harry Potter and the magical world that he saved from destruction several times over. For me, growing up and being forced to read was always a problem until my father bought me the first book and I have been hooked ever since. A proud owner of all the books in hardback, audio books and all the movies, some would say I’m a bit of a Harry Potter nerd. For me, Harry Potter has become an everyday part of my world. In this review of rhetoric, three main components will be examined. The will be the examination of identities. Secondly, an examination of the commodity culture in the Potter books. Lastly, Christian undertones will be looked at. Identity Harry spent 11 years of his life not knowing who he was or where he belonged. He thought he belonged to his horrible Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia. Todd A. Czubek and Janey Greenwald have written an article that explains the parallels between Harry Potter and the Deaf world. Using a “deaf lens” we can gain insight into social arrangements in the same way that fields like Women’s Studies and Black Studies...

Macroeconomics

...comparing the data from 2010 to that of 2011. Even though a large number of economists are optimistic, my opinion is that while recovery is progressing, the pace at which we are moving is not fast enough to rejuvenate consumer confidence. Based on what I have read and have learned in the classroom over the last few weeks, I am even more concerned for our future than I was before I started to learn the world of economics. The comparisons of the economic indicators paint a very dismal picture to me. MACROECONOMICS TERM PAPER 3 Gross Domestic Product After learning what the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is, I better understand the data I researched. Based on what I read on the Bureau of Economic Analysis website, Table 1 – Real Gross Domestic Product and Related Measures, the Gross Domestic Product for June of 2010 (Q3) was 2.5 percent compared to the Gross Domestic Product of 2.0 percent, only a year later in June of 2011 (Q3); a deficit of .5 percent between the two years. The periods between these two months were very volatile. From June of 2010 to June of 2011, our Gross Domestic Product Index dropped off at the end of 2010 and, since then, has climbed back to where it is today at 2.0 percent. Of all the statistics reviewed on Table 1, I was most interested in our exports minus imports percentage. In June of 2010, the United States was in a 2.3 percent trade...
