4) Throughout my time at Texas A&M, especially at Mays Business School, I have been trying hard to figure out who I truly am. I wanted to know what I wanted to major in, what organizations I would join, what group of friends would I surround myself with, and so on. It wasn’t until recently when I finally realized the core values at Texas A&M have helped me figure out who I am. Even though the core values are embodied everywhere on campus, I have never really thought about them when I arrived here. I hear about them and know about them, but that was the extent of it. My experiences since coming to here, however, have shaped who I am today and my reflections of those experiences have set a foundation of who I will be in the future. Behind those experiences and reflections are my values. Those terminal values are ever forward, people matter, and legacy. At first glance, they are different than the six core values, but they couldn’t be any more similar.
Ever forward is representative of how I strive to better myself in any and every aspect. Being a lifelong student and learner opens my eyes. It makes me curious about everything and forces me out of my comfort zone. I consistently look forward to expanding my horizons because I want to grow and be as well rounded as I can. My desire to grow myself allows me to be what defines me: selfless. All of my choices can be traced back to my ideology that people around me matter most. Everyone around me contribute to my life every day and I have learn and grown tremendously from them. People have had a profound impact on my life and I would love to do the same for everyone else. It could be as small as making them smile or as big as pouring every piece of knowledge I have to them and that is what wakes me every morning.
