Nowadays, most Business Intelligence (BI) applications till now have focussed on managing the strategic and tactical business methods and initiatives of organizations. Settling on choices focused around "gut feel" won't take care of business! One of the fastest BI growth area, lies in its use for managing and optimizing daily business solutions and operations that include overseeing database workloads that answer a mixture of Online Transaction Processing (OLTP)-like questions and additional business insight enquiries. This paper stresses on the importance of operational Business Intelligence in organizations that are not very well equipped to implement BI, and looks at the necessities for building and deploying an operational BI framework. ...business intelligence (BI) software. The effort was intended to help SYSCO, the largest food distributor in North America, make better use of the information generated by its operations and serve its customers better. The Director’s Council, a group of senior managers with substantial power and influence, had been impressed enough by the results of a prototype to recommend full-scale adoption. Day’s IT group would provide the bulk of the required technical support, as well as consulting and training on the use of BI. They would be assisted in this work by the professional services group of Business Objects, the BI software vendor chosen by SYSCO as the new corporate standard. While there was a great deal of development and configuration work to do on the BI software, Day was hoping that deployments within SYSCO’s operating companies could start as early as July 2003, just six months away. Day was not concerned about the magnitude of the effort—she had been involved in two recent successful IT projects that were both larger in scale and scope—but she did intend to watch progress closely, especially in the early stages. She felt that BI was unlike other types of enterprise software in use within the company, and she wanted to see how it was received and what controversies, if any, arose. The prototype development effort had been remarkably smooth, and she was eager to make sure the full project continued this happy trend. She also had to decide exactly how much BI software to buy from...

...Institute of Science & Tech., Islamabad, Pakistan rizince@yahoo.com, mnak2010@gmail.com Abstract Knowledge Management (KM), either in a tacit or explicit form, plays an important role in decision making. Business Intelligence (BI) has acquired significant importance in the business world due to the recent technological advancements and availability of state-of-theart software tools. Presently, most of the organizations across the globe are adopting BI solutions to promote business, retain customers, earn maximum profits, reduce recurring expenditures, etc. KM, on the other hand, has not gained significant acknowledgement from an implementation perspective. Moreover, the effect of BI on KM and vice versa is rarely observed. In this paper, we propose a model where KM and BI can benefit from each other. Since both of the said fields have a wide range of features, the proposed model is based on specific features. For that purpose, we have identified a number of Critical Success Factors (CSFs) related to both BI and KM technologies reported in contemporary research. Afterwards, we have drawn a comparison pertinent to the effectiveness of these CSFs with the similar research studies. The comparison shows that our model that combines both BI and KM technologies is more useful as compared to their individual utilization.
