Does Ancient Archeology Confirm the Biblical Record?

Often, individuals tend to regard the bible as irrelevant and inapplicable as some have drawn the conclusion the Bible is inaccurate. What if there was a way of altering this mentality, perhaps devising a method to verify the existence and validity of the bible? Biblical archaeology attempts to solve such problems through the recovery and scientific investigation of material remains of past culture, connecting them to events in the Bible, specifically the New and Old Testament (Maier, 2004). After investigating the methods utilized in Biblical Archaeology, it can be said that ancient Archaeology does confirm the biblical record.

Radiocarbon dating like pottery dating aids in establishing the age of an artefact which is very old (Staff,2011). Suppose a plum seed is found in the same context as a piece of pottery, the carbon inside the seed can produce a more scientific method of dating the piece of pottery. By measuring the ratio of carbon 14 to carbon 12, the age of the seed can be determined which in turn can be used to date pottery. The advantage of this method is that it provides a more accurate representation of time, allowing artifacts to be re-dated if need be (Kray, 2005). Nonetheless, the findings at “The City of David” supports the account recorded in the Bible, thus, proving the Bible to be …show more content…
This woman according to the Bible was a prostitute who hid Israelite spies in the city. Before fleeing, the spies told Rahab to bring her family into her house located on the city wall and they would be saved. According to the Bible, when the walls of Jericho came tumbling down, Rahab was saved. Archaeological findings proved this to be true as Rahab’s house was located on the city wall which appeared to have been unharmed by the apparently earthquake, thus prompting the belief of some sort of divine power in action (Ngo, 2013). Through the archaeological findings in this case, the Biblical record can be confirmed as everything the Bible said would occur came true with evidence to reinforce this.
In summary, after investigating firstly the methods of Biblical Archaeology and its findings in comparison to the Bible, it can be affirmed that ancient archaeology does confirm the biblical record. Through pottery dating, archaeologists are able to place a rough date of when events occurred, reinforcing that with radiocarbon which offers more accuracy. Because of these two methods of dating, biblical archaeology has advanced allowing archaeologists to continue to find various artifacts verifying the validity of the

Yigael Yadins Archaeological Contributions

...Yigael Yadin’s Archaeological Contributions Introduction Biblical Archeology has helped in supporting the historicity of the Bible. Not that archaeology proves or disapproves the Bible – this it does not, it only supports the history of the Bible. One of the discoveries that support the biblical historicity is the Dead Sea Scrolls. The Dead Sea Scrolls came from eleven caves, mined over the course of seven years, over 15,000 documents supporting biblical historicity have been unearthed at Qumran. One of the archeologist that played an important part in this discovery was Yigael Yadin of Israel. Yadin, not only contributed to the discovery and research of the Dead Sea Scrolls more than any other archeologist, but he also unearthed mysteries surrounding the history of Israel at Masada, Hazor and Tel Megiddo. He was not just an archeologist but he had a public life and military life to make him more of a person of interest. Even though Yadin died, his contributions will be remembered for years to come and will encourage others to continue where he left off. He will be missed greatly in the archaeological field. Hopefully, others will continue his work and continue to excavate different sites in order to find more useful and interesting discoveries of biblical nature. In this paper, we will review who he was, his life as well as his achievements and contributions in the archeological field. We will see that Yigael Yadin was truly an archeologist in every...

The Realiability and Authenticity of the Bible

...Bible. It is a collection of sixty-six books written over a period of approximately fifteen hundred years in three languages on three continents by forty authors. Kings, peasants, educated men, a doctor, a prime minister, a tax collector a rabbi, a fisherman are among the authors (McDowell, 1973). While it discusses numerous issues, and each book has different purposes, the overall themes of creation, the fall of man and redemption are clear throughout (Williams, 2002). Military historian Chauncy Sanders mentions three criteria scholars use in historiography (Williams, 2002). When applied to test whether the scriptures we have are the same as the original documents, that is to test their accuracy, these are manuscript evidence (textual), Biblical evidence (internal) and historical evidence (external) (Zuckeran 2003). First we need to examine the number of manuscripts available. The more ancient texts there are to support a particular wording or fact, the greater chance of accuracy. There are over 53,000 documented Greek manuscripts and thousands of Latin Vulgate and other versions or fragments of New Testament manuscripts...

Understanding the Aryans

...and, since his time, most learned philological opinion has accepted that, in terms of language classifications, the common source of these tongues was what is now called proto-Indo-European. Its geographical focus was presumed to be the area around the Caspian Sea. It is also generally accepted that the eastern branch of the Indo-European family of languages is known as the Indo-Iranian whose first speakers called themselves Aryans. Whether the Aryans, speaking some variety of Indo-European languages, invaded or migrated into Iran and India from their original trans-Caspian homeland or had actually originated in India and moved outwards to Iran and lands further west is a subject of continuing controversy.[iii] The purpose of this paper is three-fold: firstly, to provide a background to the historical Aryans by summarizing the main conclusions of philological scholarship on their role in Indo-Iranian history in general; secondly, to examine how the Aryans became both...

Development of Metallurgy in the Southern Levant in the Light of New Dates of Slag Deposits

...Abstract: An ongoing project for reconstructing the behavior of the geomagnetic field intensity during the last seven millennia has yielded several new dates for archaeometallurgical sites in the Southern Levant. These dates shed new light on the dawn of metallurgy in the region as well as on the quality of technological development and its relation to social and political structures. This paper introduces the methodology and concepts behind the archaeomagnetic project as well as the principles of the applied dating technique. In addition, the paper presents the archaeomagnetic results, discusses the alternative dating of several archaeometallurgical sites and explores the implication of these results on our understanding of the interaction between technology and society in the past. For the latter, the results particularly challenge the "Standard View of Technology" (Pfaffenberger, 1992), and suggest a complex, nonlinear evolution of copper industry in the Southern Levant eScholarship provides open access, scholarly publishing services to the University of California and delivers a dynamic research platform to scholars worldwide.
