My Autobiography

Being raised by a single mother has been quite the adventure. After my father passed away from Cancer in 1994 it has been very tough having to deal with that great loss and trying to make it by. It still hurts everyday as if the passing just happened. My mother has been and continues to be a phenomenal woman in raising me and taking care of everything in life as the years have gone by. Without my mother, I wouldn’t be the woman I am today. My name is Kayla Ramos and I am 22 years old. I was born in the Bronx, New York in 1991 by my parents Carmen Santiago and Frank Ramos. After my father’s passing my mother and I lived in New York two more years and decided to move to Holyoke, Massachusetts along with my maternal grandparents once my grandfather retired. My mother needed an extra pair of eyes to watch over me as I grow and attend school. My grandparents have been a great help and it has been wonderful growing up and forming a very close bond with them. Till this day, they’re a big part of my life so I have to visit them at least 5 days a week because I’d feel horrible if I didn’t. People think that by me being an only child that I must be spoiled, wrong! My mother has always raised me to work for my things and to earn them. All the chores that I hear siblings get to alternate on I’ve had to do by myself. Even though it was a little lonely growing up without someone to fight with I still learned to be independent and learned to do things for myself. In knowing that in life you can only depend on yourself it made me want to do better for me and not live by a stereotype and that being Latina I can make it and be somebody. I have set this goal for myself to prove that even in my weakest moment that I can do it! My goal with attending University of Phoenix will be to graduate with my Masters and go on to become an Event/Wedding

...Creating APA Style Annotated Bibliographies, 6th Ed. Annotated bibliographies are not specifically addressed in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 6th ed. We have taken the example given online at the OWL at Purdue1 as the basis for formatting. It is a good idea to take careful note of any directions given in your assignment, and to check with your professor if you have specific questions. Contents 1. 2. 3. Guidelines Sample Annotated Bibliography Sample Standard Reference List/Bibliography Guidelines The following is a summary of things to know when creating an APA style annotated bibliography:  The annotated bibliography consists of two elements o Citation in current APA style format o Annotation The annotation will follow the citation on the next line. There is not an extra space— double spacing is used throughout. An annotation is different from an abstract. It should have several sentences summarizing the main points or ideas found in the item. It should then include your own statement evaluating the quality of the item and/or relating the item to your own research topic. For a longer annotated bibliography, it is appropriate to divide into sections or topics, and to title those sections as seems fitting.    Note: These annotations are for illustrative purposes only and have no relationship to the content of the sources. The citations are from the sample list found at the end. 1 http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/614/03/ Sample...

...GODF A bibliography is not just “works cited.” It is all the relevant material you drew upon to write the paper the reader holds. If you read any articles or books in preparing you paper, you need a bibliography or footnotes. If you cite the arguments of “critics” and “supporters,” even if you don’t name them or quote them directly, you are likely referring to information you read in books or articles as opposed to information you’ve gathered firsthand, like a news reporter, and so you need a bibliography. If you quote sources and put some of the reference information in the text, you still need a bibliography, so that readers can track down the source material for themselves. If you use footnotes to identify the source of your material or the authors of every quote, you DO NOT need a bibliography, UNLESS there are materials to which you do not refer directly (or if you refer to additional sections of the materials you already referenced) that also helped you reach your conclusions. In any event, your footnotes need to follow the formatting guidelines below. How to Write a Bibliography These guidelines follow those of the American Psychological Association and may be slightly different than what you’re used to, but we will stick with them for the sake of consistency. Notice the use of punctuation. Publication titles may be either italicized or underlined, but not both. Books Books are the bibliography format with which you’re probably most familiar. ...“My Last Duchess” Annotated Bibliography 1 When Lou Thompson’s wrote his article titled Browning’s MY LAST DUCHESS he wanted to compare the poem My Last Duchess by Robert Browning with the poem by Geoffrey Chaucer called The Book of the Duchess. Thompson talks about the “obvious parallels” (Thompson) it has In his article he describes the differences and similarities between the two men in the poems. In lines 21-24 of My Last Duchess and lines 873-875 of Book of the Duchess there are resemblances. In both poems the speakers describe their wives, which similarly they were both duchess’s and both have passed away. Both poems deal with the gladness and the looks of the women, and even the word ‘glad’ appears in both excerpts in a line-final position. The descriptions, however, are incompatible as Chaucer’s poem praises the wife “for were she never so glad, Hyr lokynge was not foly sprad, Ne wildely, thogh that she pleyde” (Chaucer). In Robert Browning’s My Last Duchess, the duke does the opposite “She had/A heart—how shall I say?—too soon made glad—she liked whate’er/ She looked on, and her looks went everywhere” (Browning). Thompson goes on to compare the two poems by explaining the two men’s concerns with their wives’ and how beautiful both women in the poems were. The knight in the Chaucer’s poem worships his duchess while the Duke in Browning’s poem does not. Thompson also states how the Black Knight in Chaucer’s poem grieves for his dead wife and the Duke has no sympathy for...

...Example An Annotated Bibliography for Romeo and Juliet · The student writing this Annotated Bibliography is doing their essay on the performance aspects of the play. Therefore their annotations will deal with how the material is useful in that area. The annotations in this example are not 150 words but yours MUST be. You would be expected to add such items as useful quotes, passages etc. that you could use in your essay as support for your thesis. Davis, Lloyd. “’Death-Marked Love’: Desire and Presence in Romeo and Juliet.” Shakespeare Survey 49 (1996): 57-67. Knowing that the love of Romeo and Juliet will end in tragedy from the onset of the play, it is how the events of the play lead to the tragedy that is the essence of the play. Davis explores the darkness and deceit connected with desire and love. Holmer, Joan Ozark. “’Draw if you be men’: Saviolo’s Significance in Romeo and Juliet.” Shakespeare Quarterly 45.2 (1994): 163-189. The fencing material in the play is probably derived from the fencing manual of Saviolo, Vincentio Saviolo his Practise. Salviolo’s ideal view that “condemns male quarrelsomeness as irrational when it pursues personal revenge rather than godly truth and justice” is a source for both tragic and comic elements in the play (189). Levin, Harry. “Form and Formality in Romeo and Juliet.” Shakespeare Quarterly 11.1 (1960): 3-11. Levin points to the unconventionality of the play. Such scenes include the eavesdropping...

...Annotated Bibliography Garrison, Jr., Joseph M. The Past and Present in “That Evening Sun”. Studies in Short Fiction; Summer76, Vol. 13 Issue 3, p371, 3p. Joseph Garrison created a fairly accurate interpretation of the perceptions presented in the story of “That Evening Sun.” He clearly presented his explanations and arguments for why he believed that the story is written more from the boy Quentin’s point of view rather than that of the older Quentin that is presented at the beginning of the story. Reading supporting articles can sometimes be necessary when reading older classic stories. Faulkner is one of those that sometimes require background reading. Garrisons accurate perceptions of the writings make him a highly recommended source to return to. He took the story “That Evening Sun” and carefully examined and explained several of the areas in the story. For example he explained the staircase scene from the point of view of Quentin. Garrison explains why Quentin keeps returning to Nancy’s hands. Garrison’s evaluation of the text helps the reader understand the underlying issues that present themselves throughout the story. This article along with the story “That Evening Sun” could be utilized in a classroom setting as a learning tool and would work great for writing a bibliography. It can also be used for studying the ways that works were written during different times. There is so much that could be pulled from this single piece to build upon and assist a writer in...
