Billy the kid
Problem Question Was “Billy the Kid” as notorious as rumored?

Some people have compared Robin Hood to Billy the Kid, but, was Billy the Kid a Robin Hood? Let me tell you all now!
Who was Billy the Kid?
Billy the Kid has been described as a vicious and ruthless killer, an outlaw who died at the age of 21, not before raising widespread destruction in the New Mexico Territory. It was said he took the lives of 21 men, one for each year of his life, the first one when he was just 12 years old. He was a rebel without a cause who killed without reason, but a young man who lived in a violent world where knowing how to use a gun was the difference between life and death.
Name  During his early life he was called…
When his mother, Catherine McCarty remarried a man named William Antrim, the family now had two Williams. Therefore, Catherine started calling her son by his middle name, Henry. He had a childhood friend from Silver City, Chauncey Truesdell, who recalled, “Henry's first name was Billy, but they called him by his middle name to keep him from getting mixed up with his stepfather.”
Even though his first name was William, he became famous as Billy, the Kid. And, as all famous men, they have their famous actions…
Famous Actions
Billy the Kid is known as one of the most famous outlaws in American history, but why? When we look at his outlaw status, he really was not a wicked man by outlaw standards. So how bad was he? Below I give a listing of Billy the Kid's criminal record.
Petty theft: On two occasions in Silver City: First time, the Kid stole several pounds of butter which he sold to a merchant and the second time, he was an accomplice in the theft of a laundry.

Armed Robbery (holding up bank, trains, and stage coaches (Wagons)): Never.

Rapes or Assaults on Women: Absolutely Not!
Drunk and disorderly conduct: None.
Illegal Gambling: On one or two occasions, he was busted for running an illegal card table.

Cattle rustling/Horse stealing: On a small scale with only a handful of his friends. Most of his rustling was against John Chisum for supposedly owing him wages in the late Lincoln County War (LCW). His rustling activities did not hold a light to "The Boys," "The Rustlers," or even the "Cowboys" in Arizona. His thievery was greatly exaggerated by the newspaper publications which of course turned public opinion against him.

Gunfights: Due to the Kid's participation in the Lincoln County War, he was indeed involved in some gunfights. Most notable was the Blazer's Mill gun battle against Buckshot Roberts and the three-day battle at Alex McSween's house.

Killings: Billy the Kid is solely responsible for the death of four men. Two were strictly self-defense (Windy Cahill and Joe Grant) and the other two while escaping jail (Jim Bell and Bob Olinger). Assassinations: During the LCW, the Kid was one of the six men that gunned down Sheriff William Brady and Deputy George Hindman. He was also part of a group that killed Bill Morton, Frank Baker and William McCloskey.

Some of his killings were also in the Lincoln War:
This started in January 1878 when the Kid was working for Tunstall. When the Murphy- Dolan faction murdered Tunstall, the Kid and other Tunstall- McSween allies declared themselves "Regulators" and sought revenge.
For the next year, bloody retaliatory warfare was waged between the two factions. In early March, the Regulators arrested and then killed Dolan associates Frank Baker and Billy Morton, reportedly while the duo were trying to escape. At that point, territorial governor John Axtell declared the Regulators outlaws; after that, they were hunted. On April 1, 1878, when Sheriff William Brady and Deputy George Hindman, both Dolan allies, tried to ambush McSween, the Regulators fought back and killed the lawmen.

On the fifth day, after the US Army arrived, McSween’s home was set on fire, and Billy the Kid led a rush out of the burning house. Billy managed to escape but McSween and several others were riddled with bullets.
Death of a legend
Billy the Kid was somehow able to overpower and kill his jail guard, shoot another deputy and escape. This time the lawmen would take no chances. In July 1881, Sheriff Garrett and his team (a group of men organized by the sheriff to assist him) trapped Billy at a house in Fort Sumner, New Mexico. They ambushed him in a dark room and shot him to death.
The next day he was buried in a borrowed white shirt that was too large for his slim body. Admirers scraped together 208$ for a gravestone which was later broken into pieces and stolen by souvenir hunters. Billy had lived exactly 21 years, seven months, and 21 days.
Over the years, the legend of Billy the Kid grew as a result of several books and movies made about his life, many of which overemphasized.

Was “Billy The Kid” as notorious as rumored?

To conclude:

So, who was actually Billy the Kid? Well, he was an orphan who unintentionally fell into outlawry, a lifestyle he couldn’t get out of. He tried to make peace with the law and his enemies, and both times, it backfired on him, making things worse. He killed only in self-defense and during the war. The men he killed were not angels, but were either bullies or outlaws. The sheriffs he killed were not honest men trying to “protect and serve,” but crooked and corrupt. The Kid did steal livestock, but in some cases, he either paid for or returned what he had taken. He even recovered stolen livestock for small ranchers and judging by the poverty state he was always in, it seems he did not steal enough.

I am not saying Billy the Kid was an angel who rode around with a halo over his head. He did do some wrong, but he was not a Robin Hood of the 14th century, he did not do any good, but there were other outlaws of his time which were worse than him, and that’s why no one today has really heard of them, because they really-were evil and not worth remembering. In closing, I hope I have changed some of your perspective on Billy the Kid from a dark villainous outlaw to a misled, misunderstood orphan who became astray in childhood and can never come back to lead an honest and simple life! The road to violence that he adopted for himself only made his life a violent tale of crime and punishment! Somewhere deep down, there was an innocent boyhood gone horribly wrong, sometimes a victim and sometimes, a perpetrator of violence, sometimes an underdog, and sometimes a rebel and an anti-hero!

Moneyball

...Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game Michael Lewis For Billy Fitzgerald I can still hear him shouting at me Lately in a wreck of a Californian ship, one of the passengers fastened a belt about him with two hundred pounds of gold in it, with which he was found afterwards at the bottom. Now, as he was sinking-had he the gold? or the gold him? —John Ruskin, Unto This Last Preface I wrote this book because I fell in love with a story. The story concerned a small group of undervalued professional baseball players and executives, many of whom had been rejected as unfit for the big leagues, who had turned themselves into one of the most successful franchises in Major League Baseball. But the idea for the book came well before I had good reason to write it—before I had a story to fall in love with. It began, really, with an innocent question: how did one of the poorest teams in baseball, the Oakland Athletics, win so many games? For more than a decade the people who run professional baseball have argued that the game was ceasing to be an athletic competition and becoming a financial one. The gap between rich and poor in baseball was far greater than in any other professional sport, and widening rapidly. At the opening of the 2002 season, the richest team, the New York Yankees, had a payroll of $126 million while the two poorest teams, the Oakland A's and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, had payrolls of less than a third of that, about $40 million. A decade before, the highest payroll...

Supernatural by Brother Branham

...Supernatural: The Life of William Branham Book 6: The Prophet and His Revelation 1960 – 1965 by Owen Jorgensen 1 Acknowledgments: In a project of this magnitude, it is understandable that I should owe many people a debt of gratitude for their help. First of all I want to thank Pearry Green for his vision, his encouragement and his efforts in publishing and distributing these books. I also want to thank Saundra Miles, David Buckley, Jay Weber, and the other people who spent many hours editing and proof reading the six manuscripts in this series. Their suggestions helped to make this a better book and a more accurate account of William Branham‘s life. Also, I want to thank Steven and Kathy Strooh, who put these books into audio format for all those people who would rather listen than read. I must certainly thank those people who have translated these books into their native languages: Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Russian, Norwegian, Hindi, and many other languages. Supernatural: the Life of William Branham took me 17 years to complete. I was 34 when I started and 51 when I finished. To put that into perspective, my four children were in grade school when I began writing this biography. By the time I finished, three of my children were married and I had nine grandchildren. During the 17 years I worked on this project, my life had its ups and downs. I want to thank everyone who prayed for me during those 17 years. Finally I want to thank my four children—Benaiah...

Essay on Media Psychology

...Copyright © 2005 Stuart Fischoff. All rights reserved. 1 Media Psychology: A Personal Essay in Definition and Purview by Stuart Fischoff, Ph.D. Introduction The subject matter of media psychology is a mother lode of material that psychology has actively mined for decades, but only within the last ten to fifteen years has the enterprise emerged as a distinct and explicit subdivision of psychology. Media psychology found its inspirational roots more than 90 years ago within the discipline of social psychology and in the early work of social psychologist Hugo Münsterberg concerning the psychology and the psychological impact of film. Published in 1916 under the title, The Photoplay: A Psychological Study, it was the first empirical study of an audience reacting to a film. Münsterberg also provided such a keen analysis of a screenplay's (then called a photoplay) grammar of visual construction and nascent cinematic conventions and their psychological impact on the audience, that his incisive words still echo today in numerous film school lecture halls and classroom seminars. And there was psychologist L.L. Thurstone, arguably the Father of Attitude Scale Construction and Measurement (a signature area of theory and research in social psychology), who developed scales for the measurement of attitudes toward movies for the famous and notoriously politicized Payne Fund Research in 1928. This study’s practically avowed purpose was to indict (not investigate) the medium of film...

Micheal Jackson Life

...Michael Jackson fact file: Michael Joseph Jackson   was born August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009 was an American singer, songwriter, record producer, dancer, and actor. Called the king of pop his contributions to music and dance, along with his publicized personal life, made him a global figure in popular culture for over four decades. Michael Jackson has his own websites so his fans could check out his songs and updates also honour his music. Michael Jackson did his autobiography in a book and was published in February 1 in 1988. Five months after the release of Jackson’s 1987 Bad album, and named after Jackson’s signature dance move, the moonwalk. Michael Jackson was 58 when he died. Dubbed the "King of Pop," singer-songwriter Michael Jackson was born in Gary, Indiana. As a child, he performed as the lead singer of the Jackson family's popular Motown group, the Jackson 5. No single artist – indeed, no movement or force – has eclipsed what Michael Jackson accomplished in the first years of his adult solo career. Jackson changed the balance in the pop world in a way that nobody has since. He forced rock & roll and the mainstream press to acknowledge that the biggest pop star in the world could be young and black, and in doing so he broke down more barriers than anybody. But he is also among the best proofs in living memory of poet William Carlos Williams' famous verse: "The pure products of America/go crazy." When Jackson died on June 25th, 2009, of apparent cardiac arrest...

This indeed sets IKEA, operating on markets in Europe, US as well as Asia and Australia, apart among international retailers. Often the theoretical conclusions in international marketing literature, as well as empirical evidence, argue convincingly for the more adaptation (to different markets) in different national markets. But is IKEA so standardized in marketing strategies? So far there are quite few, and very dated, empirical studies of IKEA marketing strategies (yet many refer to IKEA as having a standardized marketing strategy). Here marketing activites are conceptualized to concern: Merchandise - putting together an assortment of products (e.g., national and retailer brands, pricing and pricing...

...C h a p t e r 1 Prewriting GETTING STARTED (OR SOUP-CAN LABELS CAN BE FASCINATING) For many writers, getting started is the hardest part. You may have noticed that when it is time to begin a writing assignment, you suddenly develop an enormous desire to straighten your books, water your plants, or sharpen your pencils for the fifth time. If this situation sounds familiar, you may find it reassuring to know that many professionals undergo these same strange compulsions before they begin writing. Jean Kerr, author of Please Don’t Eat the Daisies, admits that she often finds herself in the kitchen reading soup-can labels—or anything—in order to prolong the moments before taking pen in hand. John C. Calhoun, vice president under Andrew Jackson, insisted he had to plow his fields before he could write, and Joseph Conrad, author of Lord Jim and other novels, is said to have cried on occasion from the sheer dread of sitting down to compose his stories. To spare you as much hand-wringing as possible, this chapter presents some practical suggestions on how to begin writing your short essay. Although all writers must find the methods that work best for them, you may find some of the following ideas helpful. But no matter how you actually begin putting words on paper, it is absolutely essential to maintain two basic ideas concerning your writing task. Before you write a single sentence, you should always remind yourself that 1. You have some valuable ideas to tell your reader,...
