Jose Paciano Laurel (b. March 9, 1891, Tanauan, Luzon, Phil.--d. Nov. 6, 1959, Manila), president of the Philippines (1943-45), during the Japanese occupation of World War II.
After receiving law degrees from the University of the Philippines (1915) and from Yale University (1920), he was elected to the Philippine Senate in 1925 and appointed associate justice of the Supreme Court in 1936.
After the Pearl Harbor attack, Laurel stayed in Manila after President Manuel Quezon escaped first to Bataan and then to the United States. He offered his services to the Japanese; and because of his criticism of U.S. rule of the Philippines he held a series of high posts in 1942-43, climaxing in his selection as president in 1943. Twice in that year he was shot by Philippine guerrillas but recovered. In July 1946 he was charged with 132 counts of treason but was never brought to trial; he shared in the general amnesty in April 1948.
As the Nationalist Party's nominee for the presidency of the Republic of the Philippines in 1949, he was narrowly defeated by the incumbent president, Elpidio Quirino, nominee of the Liberal Party. Elected to the Senate in 1951, Laurel helped to persuade Ramón Magsaysay, then secretary of defense, to desert the Liberals and join the Nationalists. When Magsaysay became president, Laurel headed an economic mission that in 1955 negotiated an agreement to improve economic relations with the United States. He retired from public life in 1957.…...

...Miguel Cavazos For DECISION ANALYSIS BUSI 3343-02 On W.EDWARDS DEMING Professor Manuel Alcocer Table of Contents 1. Brief biography 2. Deming System 3. Conclusion Appendices 1. References Biography Deming was a well known professor who taught at New York University Graduate school of Business and Administration and at Columbia University. One of Deming’s ideas on quality control was prominent in Japan. Deming philosophy and teaching where shown by examining the kind of results of how much was produced after it was adopted by any other industry. This was known as the Deming System which is a very effective method. Ford Motor Company adopted Deming's idea which was called quality / culture". Deming's famous Management-Program consists of 14 points for improvement and 7 of things to be avoided. Most of these points are trivial. Deming created this idea quality / culture in 1930. This helped the Ford Motor Company because it was making a car model with transmission made in U.S. and Japan. Customers wanted U.S cars with japans transmission but the parts were not compatible until they went ahead and changed every part. Deming System The idea of W. Edwards Deming may be common now but they’ve become combined in our culture of work. ...What is a biography? A biography is a written account of the series of events that make up a person's life. Every student will write a biography at some point, but the level of detail and sophistication will differ. A fourth grade biography will be much different from a middle school-level biography or a high school or college-level biography. However, each biography will include the basic details. The first information you should gather in your research will include biographical details and facts. You must use a trustworthy resource to ensure that your information is accurate. Basic details include: * Date and place of birth and death * Family information * Lifetime accomplishments * Major events of life * Effects/impact on society, historical significance While this information is necessary to your project, these dry facts, on their own, don't really make a very good biography. Once you've found these basics, you'll want to dig a little deeper. You choose a certain person because you think he or she is interesting, so you certainly don't want to burden your paper with an inventory of boring facts. Your goal is to impress your reader! You'll want to start off with great first sentence. It's a good idea to begin with a really interesting statement, a little known fact, or really intriguing event. You should avoid starting out with a standard but boring line like: "Meriwether Lewis was born in Virginia in 1774." Instead, try starting with...

...-collectors who were useful to a foreign Government in the matter of collecting land-revenue and who had to be rewarded for their loyalty 6 Here he was a class-fellow of Sir P. C. Ray, the well-known chemist and philanthropist. WWW.HINDUSTANBOOKS.COM 26 BEFORE MY TIME during the Rebellion of 1857, when the existence of British rule hung by a thread. Though the new aristocracy dominated contemporary society and, as a consequence, men like Maharaja Jatindra Mohon Tagore and Raja Benoy Krishna Deb Bahadur were regarded by the Government as the leaders of society, they had little in the way of intellectual or moral appeal. That appeal was exercised in my father’s youth bymen like Keshav Chandra Sen and to some extent, Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar. Wherever the former went, crowds followed him. He was, indeed, the hero of the hour. The spiritual fervour of his powerful orations raised the moral tone of society as a whole and of the rising generations in particular. Like other students, my father, too, came under his magic influence, and there was a time when he even thought of a formal conversion to Brahmoism. In any case, Keshav Chandra undoubtedly had an abiding influence on my father’s life and character. Years later, in far-off Cuttack, portraits of this great man would still adorn the walls of his house, and his relations with the local Brahmo Samaj continued to be cordial throughout his life. Though there was a profound moral awakening among......
