...One day a little boy about 10 or 11 was walking home from school. He was walking alone and he felt scared. As it became darker while he was walking the long road home some older boys started to follow him. He got scared and he didnt know what to do. Qucikly he looked all around him and he spotted the one place he knew that he would be save. In a instant he took of running for the landfill up ahead. Once he made it into the landfill he was looking around for somewhere to hide that he knew he would be safe. In a quick motion he was got. Running as fast as he can toward the back for corner of the dump. He had just made it to the back when he saw a man. The man was not a normal man, no he was the keeper of the landfill and he looked at the boy and asked him what he was doing there. The boy looked up at the man and told him, " I am running from some mean boys that want to beat me up!" The man looked at him in concern and told him he could make himself and home and stay until the boys were gone. By this time it was already goign on 7 o'clock at night and the little boy was sure his mom would be worried about him. Then he realized that his mom had yoga class and wouldnt be home till 10. So the boy made himself a comfy little spot to sit and grabbed a paper and started to read it. The boy sat there for about two more hours before he thought the coast was clear. He told the man that he was going to go home because he figured the bullies should be gone by now since he did wait in......

Color of Water

...Zachary Carson Mrs.Thonpson English 10 15 March 2015 Color of water The book Color of water by James McBride is about his mother Ruth McBride and her struggles with cultural and racial differences. Color of water is set in the early 1930’s through the late l960’s in both the southern town of Suffolk, Virginia and the city of Brooklyn, New York. Many important symbols appear throughout the story, including Ruth’s bike, flying birds, and clear water. These symbols were important in Ruth’s life. Ruth rides an old blue and white battery-powered bike to maintain a connection with her dead husband. Her second husband , Hunter Jordan, found this bike abandoned in Brooklyn and brought it home. “The contraption would be a collector’s item now, probably worth about five thousand dollars, but back then it was something my step father found on the street in Brooklyn and hauled home a few months before he died.” (page 5). Ruth would ride this bike up and down the street as a form of grieving the loss of her late husband. The loss of her husband was one of the difficulties that Ruth encountered during her life and it took her several years to move on. The symbol of how water has no color is made when Ruth and her son are in church. Ruth’s son asks her what color god was because their family is “mixed”. He asked this because Ruth is a white Jewish woman (now Catholic) who married a black man and had mixed-race children. “God is the color of water. Water doesn’t have a color.”......

Personal Mission Statement

...Personal Mission Statement My mission in life is to please God. This mission drives me through each milestone of life, onward to the lifetime goal of hearing my God say, “well done, you have been a good and faithful servant”. My focus, direction, purpose, motivation, decisions, and every breath I take is for His purpose. Many of my days are as I described above. Some are not, some days I struggle to hold on to joy and peace. To fulfill this mission, I live by many principles. Below are the top five. 1 I recognize that I cannot please a God I do not know; I must understand His nature and His ways in order to acknowledge Him in all my ways and receive His direction for my life. • I make it a point to rise up early and pray (talk) to God. Communication is essential for any relationship to be successful. Communication is two-way, after I talk to God; I listen to His voice by reading and meditating on His word to see in what way I am being instructed. Effective communication with God leads to better relationship with my husband, children and my neighbors (everyone else). • Right communication and right relationship leads to right counsel in all decision-making processes. Marriage, Money, children, religion, investments, giving respect and etc… 2 I love God, people and myself. I recognize that God loves everyone. It can be challenging sometimes but I strive to love people as God loves me. God deals with me and my issues every day and does not love me...

As a Set and/or Lighting Designer, What Effects Would You Want to Create for Your Audience in Act 1 and Act 2? Explain How Your Set Design/Lighting Design Would Change from Act 1 to Act 2.

...As a set and/or lighting designer, what effects would you want to create for your audience in Act 1 and Act 2? Explain how your set design/lighting design would change from Act 1 to Act 2. A Doll’s House by Henrick Ibsen is an iconic play expressing harsh truths on social rules and etiquette in the late 1800’s. The play allows a simple yet symbolic set and lighting design – forcing the audience to think and question the play writes intentions as well as the interpretation of the director. The play is over a period of three days; Act 1 is on Christmas Eve and Act 2 being over Christmas day –the set changes over both acts in small but significant ways allowing the audience to understand the detrition of the perfect reality in which Nora lives by. As a set or lighting designer, I would want the audience to experience a tense, chilling and abrupt atmosphere that illuminates the distorted reality, which is being broken slowly. As women during the late 1800’s where not meant to become involved with the dealings of money and business – it was the man’s job. By doing this Nora has brought on a sense of shame and disgrace to her family, as Helmer is lead to believe by the influence of society that he can no longer control his wife. In Act 1, Ibsen indicates to the set and lighting designers how he wishes the play to be set up. From the stage directions I am able to understand that the atmosphere within the opening scene of the play should be ‘comfortable and tasteful’ but ‘not...

...Quotes from Famous Directors about the Role of Music in Films Woody Allen (Annie Hall, Manhattan) "Too broad a question. Let's just say it covers a multitude of sins." Olivier Assayas (Irma Vep, Demonlover) "Usually I'm happy when the score doesn't spoil the film. Redundant music can absolutely put to pieces the work of actors.” Patrice Chéreau (La Reine Margot, Intimacy) "A film without music is one-legged. And I would prefer not to make cinema rather than return to an age without cinematic music." Francis Ford Coppola (The Godfather, The Conversation) "Music is a big factor in helping the illusion of the film come to life. The same way music brings back different periods of our lives." Roger Corman (The Little Shop of Horrors, The Trip) "Music best enhances a film when it evokes and modulates a specific emotional response in the audience to the unfolding story without the audience being aware of it. In Hollywood today, however, this can be difficult to achieve because very often music has to compete with louder and louder sound effects. As a consequence, there is a tendency for the music to oversimplify and overstate its themes. The manipulation of emotion in the audience has probably become cruder, generally speaking." Alex Cox "I don't think it does anymore, music is overused and someone should do a film without any music at all." Cameron Crowe (Jerry Maguire, Almost Famous) "The best soundtrack music by-passes your mind and goes straight to your soul. It sort of......

Reflection On Learning Experience

...Many creative video ideas were implemented in this seminar. But as I perceive it, creating a persona was the most popular choice among the teams. All of my three teams chose to follow this style. It was not a bad idea but was rather daunting for me having to repeat the same idea. I think, up till now, I feel most attached to the first two characters my first team created: Mr. Early Birdy and Miss Late. In contrast, I was not particularly excited about Greta (the second team) or the Trust Builders (the third team). During the last video assignment, our team talked about this wearisome repetition. Yet, I felt that everyone, including me, had a tendency to choose an approach which was already testified and could earn high grades. As a consequence, new ideas are not carefully considered. All things considered, I think it would have been better if we were not allowed to repeat ourselves though I am aware that this may be difficult to achieve provided that we switch teams after each storyboard session. Another solution is to ask for a different delivery format for each...

Thinking Fast and Slow

...Jason Drago Professor Bhargave Marketing 4093 24 February 2015 Thinking Fast and Slow Thinking Fast and Slow is a book written by Daniel Kahneman. The book contains over 40 years of his and his colleague’s research on the human mind and the way humans make judgments and decisions. Kahneman makes the book very intriguing by applying his experimental findings to his concepts throughout the book. His hope for the readers of this book is that they will be able to recognize when our brain tries to act irrational, and gives steps to take to try and make rational decisions. The book begins with an introduction on the work between Daniel Kahneman and his good friend Ramos Tversky. The two began to work together in 1969 and wrote an article on intuitive statistics. It was then that they realized that they really enjoyed each others company and that together, they were capable of discovering things that each on there own could not achieve. This is what led them to continue to work together for fourteen years. Throughout the fourteen years, the pair wrote many articles with their two greatest works being, “Judgment Under Uncertainty: Heuristics and Biases” and “Prospect Theory: An Analysis of Decision Under Risk.” These two works became very influential to many in the field of research in judgment, decision-making and behavioral economics. Kahneman went on to win the Nobel Prize in 2002 for his and Amos’ work on judgment, decision making, and prospect theory, but he says......

Thoreau

...Robert Frost is one of America’s most beloved poets, and "Mending Wall" is one of his most popular poems. This poem tells the tale of a rock wall which sits between two properties in the countryside. Something continually destroys this rock wall. A compelling aspect of "Mending Wall" is the Frostian sense of mystery and loneliness. What begins as a quest to discover the identity of the wall-destroyer, ends in a meditation on the value of tradition and boundaries. "Mending Wall" is the first poem in North of Boston, Frost’s second book of poetry. This book was published when Frost was in England, rubbing elbows with the likes of W.B. Yeats, T.S. Eliot, andEzra Pound. Frost was a contemporary of many modernist poetic movements, but he isn’t associated with any particular group of poets. He marched to his own drummer, and as a result, he garnered a good deal of criticism from the literary world. But, it is precisely because he was such an individual and his voice so original that Frost became so beloved. Born in San Francisco, Frost moved to Massachusetts at age eleven following his father’s death. He attended both Dartmouth College and Harvard University, but never earned a college degree. He was, however, often invited to teach at Dartmouth and Harvard later on in his life. You know you’re good when you get to teach college students without having a diploma yourself. After spending some time in England, Frost befriended a lot of poetic giants, including William Butler......
