1. Theme:

The theme of my curating project is the Evolution of Art. I will be demonstrating how art has changed over time. From the Stone Age to modern day, art has had some dramatic changes
b. Why did I choose it this theme?
I chose this theme because I find it interesting how quickly and how drastically art has changed overtime. Starting from the Stone Age, it took man 25,000 years to develop art with language, but every since the
1950s it’s as if a new style of art develops every decade. This theme also gives the development of art some perspective. It also allows us to see how far art has come since cave drawings.

2. Exhibit Space Plan (This can be brief: a drawing or an written indication of which places on campus will be utilized and what you will use to tie the different areas together if they are not right next to each other.)
The Exhibit will be held at the Blanton Museum of art. All pieces will be presented inside. The Exhibit is shown in Chronological order of when each piece was created.
Each room will be designated to a specific time period. After the 2nd time period a summary of the transition will be discussed. This will continue after every 2

Ages of art in order to understand how art has transitioned within a specific time. 3. There are all kinds of mediums used to portray art in this Exhibit.
a. Some media used include:
3D art form: Bronze Statue of Zeus or Poseidon (Greek Age)
2D art form: Cave drawings (Stone Age)
Performing art or written art form: The Code of Hammurabi (Mesopotamian
Age)
b. As the exhibit goes on there will be references to 3 philosophical thinkers.
1) Arthur Danto is mentioned on the Marcel Duchamp “Fountain” piece.
This piece gets Danto thinking what defines art. So he comes up with a categorical definition in which pieces have to have an artistic …show more content…
He had the idea that a culture could be observed through their art. He thinks of this more as a spirit of the age. In regards to the bronze statue we will see that its humanistic form is very reflective of Greek culture. Greek gods had human characteristics so their mythology is represented in a human manner. 3) Timothy Binkley is mentioned on the conceptual contemporary art of
Campbell’s Soup. After the piece was put on display there was some debate among the curators whether it should be considered art. This particular piece also got Binkley thinking how to define art. He created a procedural definition of pointing at a piece and calling it art makes it art.
So according to Binkley, he considers Campbell’s Soup art because someone else pointed at it and called it art. You can read more his discussion on the written text below this piece.
c. As you tour the exhibit notice that some artworks like the Cave drawings from Australia are not western works.
