The blobfish, otherwise known as psychrolutes marcidus, is a deep sea fish of the family Psychrolutidae. It inhabits waters at depths of 600 to 1,200 meters off the coasts of mainland Australia, from southern Queensland to southern Australia and Western Australia and Tasmania, as well as the waters of New Zealand. In these areas, the pressure is typically 60 to 120 times as great as it is at sea level. They also have a temperature around -2 degrees Celsius with absolutely no sunlight. Because of this, the flesh of a blobfish is primarily a gelatinous mass with a density slightly less than water.
