Time. Students seem to constantly need more time in school. Not just for the large and demanding amounts of homework from being a high schooler, but also because students have less and less time to understand the material given in the current short classes. Thank you all for coming to hear my personal side of the discussion. The discussion subject is about removing the current schedule to a block schedule. Mr. Struhs is proposing that we should have block scheduling with Tuesday as the usual 1-7 periods and 47 minute classes, however, Wednesday and Friday would be all odd periods. Then Thursday would be all even classes plus an 8th advisory period while Saturday would replace the 8th period with early release. This block schedule would benefit the school because it gives not only students, but teachers, time for school and organization for school events. …show more content…
This is a top priority to most students; however, many of the school’s students have said that they have busy afterschool schedules where both school and extracurricular activities don’t end until 8 or 9 at night. This causes students to rush to finish their assignments to be turned in on time. Unfortunately, not all students have time to go in afterschool for clarification on that day’s lesson due to this. Thus, their work can turn out incorrect, incomplete, and/or not even started. If the school chose the block schedule, the stress of all 7 classes providing homework would be reduced to only a few every other day. An advisory or study period would also provide those students with difficulty understanding and those with busy afterschool schedules with the help or time they

The Effect of Study Habits

...strategies make studying and schoolwork less overwhelming and more enjoyable. Academic stress occurs when students feel the pressure of cramming for exams, rushing through homework and getting minimal sleep because of disorganization and worry. Effective time management techniques should not only be applied to your academic life but to your overall schedule to achieve success and peace of mind. Other People Are Reading * How to Improve Time Management Skills as a College Student * Student Success Checklist 1. Stress Reduction * A study conducted by Dr. Ranjita Misra, Ph.D., and Michelle McKean and published by the American Journal of Health Studies found that stress levels decreased among students who managed their time well. Students who sought relaxation through parties and other social events still maintained a relatively high stress level, in spite of their efforts. The study also determined that the time-balanced students achieved higher grades, felt less anxiety over tests and were more confident in their academic performance overall. Furthermore, these students also fit a social life into their busy schedules, simply due to efficient and realistic time planning. Motivation * Students who find time management difficult tend to lack motivation. There are conflicting opinions regarding whether the lack of motivation stems from the frustration of feeling that there is not enough time available to study and attend classes, or if the lack of motivation...

Legalizing Marijuana in the Us

...2011, 18.1 million Americans aged 12 and older (7.0 percent) reported using the drug.” (Office of the National Drug Control Policy). Compare this statistic, “to the 10.4 million young people between the ages of 12 and 20 who drank more than just a few sips of alcohol.” (National Institute on Alochol Abuse and Alcohlism). While the question of this paper is not the underage usage of alcohol or marijuana, in all the research that topic keeps being brought up. This focus of this paper is on the adult use (over the age of consent) of marijuana used to treatment medical necessity, not recreational use. Marijuana is considered a Schedule I drug as defined by the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA). According to the DEA website; drugs, substances, and chemicals are classified into five categories, or schedules. A drug classified as a schedule I drug has no accepted medical use and has a high potential for abuse. (DEA/Drug Scheduling). Along with marijuana, heroin, LSD, ecstasy and peyote are also listed as schedule I drugs. Foreign Language Academy: Student Analysis

...American students did not. The African American scores were high, low and then high again. Whereas the scores of the ELL students were low, higher and then low again. These scores present a challenge for the students of Foreign Language Academy especially the students classified as ELL. How can this challenge be met? Teachers of English Language Arts at Foreign Language Academy believe that students would be positively impacted by the implementation of a separate writing block from the reading block. Currently the schedule is that Kindergarten and First grade do not have any teaching in English at all. They are taught every subject in the target language, which is either French or Spanish. The reading and writing program that they are supposed to use is Reading Street. They have the Spanish version but not the French one. The district has given the teacher at theses grades permission to create their own reading curriculum. They do writing within the curriculum but it is not taught as a separate block either. Then when the students get to second grade there is 90 minutes of English Language Arts taught every day which is to include reading and writing, spelling and convention, amazing words and vocabulary. When the Pearson representative came to Foreign Language Academy and taught a lesson exactly like it was scripted in the book it took her over two hours and she did not even get to the writing part of the lesson. The units are to be six weeks long and have writing...

Managing Time as and Adult Learner

...Managing Time as an Adult Learner Many adults feel like they already have a full plate; that is to say they have as many (or more) commitments competing for their time, as they have time available. Based on a U.S military study, taking the average requirement of three college classes a semester, the adult learner can expect to add approximately eighteen hours a week of educational related activities onto their plate (Dyer, 2014). A report, issued by the National Clearinghouse Research Center in October of 2014, indicates that only one-in-three adults, returning to school, end up graduating (New, 2014). With the odds so heavily stacked against them, how can the adult learner balance work, home and school to fit in the time necessary to get a college degree? For an adult, with adult responsibilities, to be a successful student requires: undaunted commitment, discipline in focus, sacrificing of the extraneous, and the ability to effectively manage time. Much research and countless studies have been done attempting to determine the key contributing factors for success of adult learners (Tyler-Smith, 2006). The results of the studies are not only significant for the adult student, but also for the universities they are attending. The information obtained is used by Universities to modify their learning environments in an effort to promote an increase in student success rates. Statistically high adult attrition rates have a negative impact on a university’s educational planning...
