A new study revealed that teenage girls and young women who are overweight are at much risk of developing heart disease as men. The research was conducted by the Royal Women’s Hospital and the University of Melbourne on 639 female participants, aged 16 to 25. Almost 30 percent of these women have very high blood pressure that may likely put them at risk of developing heart disease in the future. Moreover, nearly 30 percent of the participants were either obese or overweight.
“What findings from this study highlighted was that an alarmingly large percentage of young women had signs of heart disease risk, coupled with high blood pressure, which is usually more prominent in adults,” said Dr. Asvini Subasinghe from the Royal Women’s Hospital and Murdoch

According to the Mayo Clinic, an individual can make these lifestyle changes to ensure low blood pressure and avoid developing diseases associated with it.
1. Weight Management
Weight and blood pressure are often connected, and if your weight increases, your blood pressure will too. Shedding excess weight is one of the most effective methods to control blood pressure and losing 4.5 kilograms or 10 pounds can reduce your blood pressure. To avoid losing too much weight, you can simply check if you are carrying too much weight on your waistline. According to medical experts, more weight on your waist means a high risk of developing hypertension.
2. Regular Physical Activity
Consistent exercise of at least 30 minutes on most days of the week will help lower your blood pressure. The most common exercises that can lower your blood pressure and trim down weight are walking, jogging, cycling, dancing, and swimming. You can also consult a doctor about the exercise regime designed for your biochemistry.
