This semi-autobiographical film played a large role in the beginning of the French New Wave. The most famous and still well used shot that came out of The 400 Blows was not used until the very end of the picture – the freeze-frame. This stylistic device was not used often at that time and it stuck in audience’s minds. The film itself follows the everyday life of a boy named Antoine. It’s not a particularly interesting life, but has its moments. He lives with his parents in a tiny apartment dealing with their oddities. His hurtful mom seems to only care about herself and his father appears to be a total fool. At school he is unfulfilled and everyone can tell. He can’t get away with anything in his attempts to make life a little less dull. For the majority of the film Antoine just plods along form one silly event to the next with his pal René. They skip school, go to see movies, and smoke. None of this is exception to watch or overly memorable. What is exceptional and memorable is how you viewed all this. Antoine travels throughout Paris, walking and sometimes almost jogging or running as if someone was pursuing him. They start to think things through instead of just going at it. The striking thing about that scene is that it shows the children enjoying the scene and having fun, while Antoine and his friend are in the corner plotting with evil thoughts, not enjoying the show. 2) One street scene that I found that interested me was at 24 minutes into the movie, after Antoine had left the carnival. While walking with his friend through the streets, he saw the once beautiful place of what was known as Paris (it’s still beautiful, just not as much as before), as well as his mother, while she was making out with a man who wasn’t her husband. Just this scene alone portrays that in the 1950s, Paris wasn’t the best place to be. Although it was pretty, it was also very busy and crowded on the streets. Anything could happen. 3) One scene I found visually stunning was the carnival scene where he was in the spinning ride. Although I may be wrong, but I feel as if the director included that scene to give an insight of how Antoine’s mind is and he's foreshadowing the rest of the film. Truffaut’s treatment of story, character, image, and space conform to the generally recognized set of characteristics that typify the genre. In the film the life of the protagonist, Antoine Doinel, accords with the filmmaker’s conscious attempt at creating a film that challenges commonly held notions of narrative, character, and style. It was made during the French New Wave timeframe which was a completely different style compared to many other films during that period of time and honestly was similar to most of the “Hollywood” movies that I am used to in this country. This new wave of films fundamentally surrounded itself by creating a feel of real life and personality on the screen that would captivate its viewers, and the movie 400 Blows did everything and more than I expected. Impulse is a very powerful book with mature subject matters, but even so, it related very well to The Catcher in the Rye. The three characters in Impulse are all admitted into the Aspen Springs psychiatric hospital for all wanting to end their lives with different motives. Holden can relate to the three characters and mostly their lives before the psychiatric hospital. Through quotes, texts, songs and pictures The Catcher in the Rye and Impulse play out and compliment each other through similarities. In slide one, Tony and Holden are compared through their anger and outburst after losing a loved one. Tony, a character in Impulse was dating an older man named Philip. Philip became very sick and passed away. The only way for Tony to feel better was to turn to pills. He was hospitalized for trying to overdose and was put into the psychiatric hospital. Holden goes through a struggle when his brother Allie dies. When Allie died, Holden broke all the windows in his garage and had to be hospitalized. Holden ends up regretting this because he was still hospitalized during Allie’s funeral and couldn’t attend it. While Philip was alive he sent Tony a baseball glove and a ball for his birthday. Had Enron survived the resulting scandal, however, the company could have fired or otherwise retaliated against Watkins with legal impunity.'^ Under Texas's whistleblower law, employees of private employers receive legal protection against retaliation only if they report wrongdoing to an external law enforcement agency. Because Watkins reported her concerns only to Enron CEO Kenneth Lay, her actions did not meet Texas's strict report recipient requirement.' The Texas whistleblower law is not unique. ...BLOW MOLDING Introduction Blow molding is defined as a plastic process whereby a thermoplastic material is heated to its forming temperature, which is below that of the plastic materials being used; at its melting point it is made to form a hollow tube called a parison or preform. This heated homogeneous plastic material is then placed between two female molds that are cooled through some medium. The two female molds close on the heated parison or preform and a gas, usually air, enters via an open end of the parison via a blow pin or needle; the gas is blown into the closed female mold halves, taking the shape of the internal female closed mold, allow to cool, and is then sent out through an exhaust. The two female molds are then separated and the cooled, shaped hollow part is then ejected or allowed to drop out for the cycle to repeat. In the first attempt over 100 years ago, to blow-mold hollow objects, two sheets of cellulose nitrate were clamped between two female mold halves. Steam injected between the sheets softened the material, sealed the edges, and expanded the heated sheets to form the inside shape of the two female mold halves. The high flammability of cellulose nitrate, however, limited the usefulness of this technique.
