Summary:
The book “The House on Mango Street” starts with Esperanza Cordero. A Mexican-American teenager growing up in the poor part of Chicago. The book consists of chapters written in poem-like segments each describing her what happens in her life, her family, or what it’s like in her neighborhood. You can see her maturing bit by bit as the story progresses, from a once unsure adolescent to a young more mature adult. She she started off thinking Mango street defines her. But as time progresses she turns into to a more sure and confident young woman who knows that is not the case. She suffers throughout the book, from being sexually assaulted twice, and feeling shame from her family’s poverty. Esperanza also has to witness abused girls trying

One of the thing she defines herself as in the book, Something that does not belong. Those are her feelings of isolation, not belonging and in a way her slow growth. The trees are such a simple motif that can be interpreted in anyway and in my opinion these could have played a much larger part in story but alas they didn’t. What's next is the chains, they represent how much mango street holds esperanza back. If this story was taken place in a different place (a more wealthy place per say) the story wouldn't be about being held backrcou it would be about insecurity (her culture and her phyiscal appearance ) how she feels minimized because so. The fact her eyes are censored is because identity is something she had difficulty with. She even had difficulty identifying with her name, such a basic thing and she wanted it gone. SO if she couldn't even identify with her name of course there's going to be problems with bigger things (which does happen). Esperanza struggles to identify with herself through the whole book. From herself to her family. and the notebook of course is her vent the one thing that makes sure she dosnt go off and be sally. I can grantee you sally has no outlet other than interse and if she discovered how reliving writing is; then things would me much more

Robert Frost and Sandra Cisneros

...death, Frost was a character who could speak at Harvard and live on a farm in New Hampshire. He could dazzle the brightest students with poetic ingenious, but boil life down to, “It’s hard to get into this world and hard to get out of it. And what’s in between doesn’t make much sense. If that sounds pessimistic, let it stand”. Robert Frost’s poems “Mending Wall” and “The Road Not Taken” both exemplify the struggle between individual autonomy and the confines that society puts on it through deceivingly simple speech. Frost specifically deals with the idea that life is no more than a series of relationships and choices, which are never simple to discern. Frost’s collections of work have not always been considered groundbreaking, for his first book of poems was published when he was forty. 1) As...

CHAND AN ISO 9001: 2000 COMPANY S. CHAND & COMPANY LTD. RAM NAGAR, NEW DELHI -110 055 Page iii PREFACE TO THE NEW EDITION Wren and Martin's monumental work High School English Grammar and Composition now appears in two editions. One is a de luxe edition, illustrated in full-colour, and the other is an ordinary edition without illustrations. The material in the book has been further updated where called for. It has been felt necessary in particular to revise some material in the chapters dealing with adjectives, active and passive voice, articles and prepositions. Appendix I, which deals with American English, has been expanded. Appendix II has been replaced with a newer set of tests covering the important areas of grammar. It was in the year 1972 that the shrewd visionary Mr. Shyam Lai Gupta obtained the permission of Manecji Cooper Education Trust for the revision of this book and commissioned me to revise it thoroughly. The revised edition came out in 1973 and was well received. One of the main features of the revised edition was the addition of a great deal of new material (such as the three chapters on structures) based on the new developments in the study of English structure and usage. Subsequently the book was revised every four or five years and most...
