Within boundaryless organizations context, teamwork, and communication replace formal lines of authority” (Lombardi & Schermerhorn, 2007, p. 64). Effective communication is the most important aspects of any organization. Without effective communication an organization can be unsuccessful and fail. Some communication obstacles caregivers face on a day-to-day basis are working with Alzheimer’s, dementia, and mentally challenged residents. Our caregivers are taught to speak clearly, slowly, and use the correct tone and volume, making sure to give the resident full attention, use effective nonverbal signals, use appropriate behavior and show the resident that they care and are listening.
One way to share information and ideas is by working in teams. “A team is a small group of people with complementary skills, who work together to achieve a shared purpose and who hold themselves mutually accountable for its accomplishment” (Lombardi & Schermerhorn, 2007, p. 76). Putting teams together is a very effective way to organize any health care organization. Effective teams are made up of motivated, driven, achievement-oriented, and supported individuals. Teams transform resource, inputs people and ideas into product, and outputs a finished goal or service. An effective team is one that achieves and maintains levels of both task performance and member satisfaction and retains its viability for future action (Schermerhorn, 2007).
In order to be an effective manager in today’s work place, one must have a very good understanding of the various ways and forms in which people interact or communicate with each other. It is critical that good leaders display the ability to effectively communicate with their staff members or outside vendors. A good leader should also encourage and train staff members to
