Boyer's Scholarly Practice Analysis

The conceptual framework of Boyer’s “scholarly practice” is that knowledge is created through formal research, synthesis, practice and teaching. These four are placed on equal footprints in order to produce scholarship. In the 1990’s, Boyer replaced the traditional research versus teaching model into a more comprehensive scholarly model. Boyer defined scholarship by classifying these four concepts.
Discovery is aligned with traditional concepts of scholarship. It is based in construction of knowledge through research. Integration focus is the interdisciplinary connectedness that enables research as a cohesive whole rather than being specific to certain displaces. Application refers to the focus on societal problems and the change in society.
