Over the last couple weeks at Sweetwater High School the principal Dr.Ramon Del Rosario brought forth an idea that all student wear a school uniform. He says they will have great effects on the students and their grades. the school uniform will consist of a grey polo shirt and khaki pants. He says they are cheap and easy to find and they will prevent gang violence. In the last couple of days Dr. Ramon Del Rosario was talking to the school board and got his idea approved. They decided that starting the next semester they want every student in a uniform and if the students are defiant and don’t wear it there will be disciplinary action taken by the administrators. Our principle will give a speech at the next assembly telling all you students the new news about the uniforms. He will be telling you guys that he has informed all the nearby stores that they will need to stock up on grey polo shirts and khaki pants and to put them on sale so that every student at Sweetwater can go buy their uniforms for the new semester. On the other hand when all of you guys are in your new uniforms there will be less gang violence which will bring a better representation to our school. If the gang members that were causing problems to all the other student stop coming to school then its better for everyone else because they can focus on their school work without being terrified of being hurt by a gang member or a bad student that has bad grades and goes to school to mess with everyone.

Religious Discrimination

...religious belief and work requirements as long as it will not bring an undue hardship. The claims for religious discrimination in the article all said employees were discharged or disciplined because they insisted on their religious belief and did not meet job requirements. For example, Muslim drivers in a trucking company refused to deliver alcohol because of their Islamic faith. These employees’ behaviors did not bring an undue hardship, which causes more than a de minimis cost for the reasonably accommodation to their company, and have right and freedom to insist on their faith. Besides, employers should reasonably accommodate their religious belief when employees inform the conflicts between work and belief. Therefore, these employees can win lawsuits. In the Webb case, Webb sued her employer for religious discrimination because she was disciplined for refusing to remove her headscarf, however, she lost. The authority of city—police department, which has religious neutrality, hired Webb as a police officer. The public always believes police is a best team that enforces the law strictly and acts with highly efficiency and discipline. Wearing uniform is beneficial to build a better this image of police among the public. Wearing the headscarf on work time will bring negative effects both inside and outside of the department. As a result, if the department accepted Webb’s request for wearing a headscarf with her uniform,...

School Uniforms

...why many school boards are calling for school uniforms. In this article we will look at school uniforms and the potential benefits and problems associated with school uniforms along with legal issues and whether they are in fact truly effective. School uniforms serve a number of purposes. A good deal of research has been undertaken in regard to the use of the school uniform, and the net result has been the wider use of school uniforms in more recent years. Also to increase school safety, to encourage our students to experience a greater sense of school identity and belonging, to encourage an improvement in student behavior, to reduce school clothing costs, to encourage a high level of program participation and to improve and expand academic excellence. School uniforms range from the formal to the informal. Some schools that have implemented school uniforms have chosen what one usually thinks of in connection to Catholic schools: nice pants and white shirts for boys, jumpers and white shirts for girls. However, most public schools are turning to something more casual and more acceptable to parents and students: khakis or jeans and knit shirts of varying colors. The latter appear to be more affordable too because they can be used outside of school. Many school districts that have implemented school uniforms have provided some sort of financial assistance for families that cannot afford the extra expense. The use of school uniforms is a topic of hot debate among parents and...

Response To Millikan's School Uniform System

...Uniform teaches that conformity is more important and dominant than individuality. Millikan’s school uniform policy is appreciated by some, not by most. I am not asking for the whole uniform to be taken away, but some leniency will go a long way. The issues with uniform is the enforcement, the extra work for the parents, and how the uniform deprives students of choice and individuality. I have asked just over 50 students and each and every single one of the students when asked about their complaints on the uniform complained about how there is a poor uniform system. First of all the staff are biased when it comes to enforcing uniform. Personally I have seen many students go up to staff members and have a full conversation and walk in completely out of uniform. Second of all the change out system is faulty. After talking to those same students 80% claim to have been fined for the borrowed clothing that they returned including myself. Also 70% said their clothing that got confiscated was lost. Also even teachers disagree with uniform because when students are out of uniform they must go to change out which takes out of class time or even leading to detention that takes out of training time for the athletes. So uniform takes away from valuable class and training time....

Uniform Civil Code

...UNIFORM CIVIL CODE AND ROLE OF INDIAN JUDICIARY CONCEPT AND MEANING OF UNIFORM CIVIL CODE The expression ‘Uniform Civil Code (UCC)’ consists of three terms- ‘Uniform’, ‘Civil’, ‘Code’. The word ‘Uniform’ means one and the same in all circumstances whatsoever; the term ‘Civil’ has been derived from the latin word ‘Civils’ meaning citizen when used as an adjective to the term ‘law’, it means pertaining to the private rights and remedies of a citizen, as distinguished criminal, political, etc. The word ‘Code’ is derived from the Latin word ‘Codex’ which means a book. Therefore, the term ‘Civil Code’ is read in conjunction with the adjective ‘Uniform’ it connotes a code which shall be uniformly applicable to all citizens irrespective of their religion, race, sex, caste and creed. Uniform Civil Code, therefore, generally refers to that part of law which deals with family affairs of an individual and denotes uniform law for all citizens, irrespective of his/her religion, caste or tribe.  UNIFORM CIVIL CODE AND INDIAN CONSTITUTION Article 44 of the Constitution of India requires the state to secure for the citizens of India a Uniform Civil Code throughout the territory of India. India is a unique blend and merger of codified personal laws of Hindus, Christians, Parsis and to some extent of laws of Muslims. However, there exists no uniform family related law in a single statutory book for all Indians which are universally acceptable to all religious communities who co-exist...

...should wear school uniforms. There are people who think that school uniforms should not be required to wear in school. On the other hand, there are quite a few people who agree with wearing school uniforms. Students wearing school uniforms would be the best thing for students’ altogether, mainly for three reasons. School is a place for learning; therefore, school uniforms are good because they ensure equality, provide security, and are cost/time effective. In today’s society, students forget about the real reason of going to school and focus on their appearance and popularity. If public schools were to bring in school uniforms, this would cut back on the “socio-economic” differences (Essay on School Uniform). Cutting back on the differences allows the students to be equal. Students would be able to go to school, and not have to worry about what another student saying something about what they are wearing. Also, school uniforms will cut down on the social conflicts like cliques or gangs. The school uniforms take away the style or colors that gangs or cliques would wear to stand out from one another. When a parent sends their child to school, they believe that their child will be safe. School Uniforms help school administrators provide security for the students. “In Long Beach, California in 1994 the schools there have [saw] a change in the way students act, for the better. The crime rate is down 76%; assaults on school property [were] down as well by 85%” (Uniforms in Public School)...

...public schools should be able to require their students to wear uniforms."  (Portner) This statement would be agreeable if one was uneducated on the matter at hand.  As a matter of fact, school uniforms bring on problems that the school board did not see coming.  For example, the costs of the uniforms create an ordeal, there are restrictions on freedom of expression and the behavior and beliefs of the children are affected by the uniforms that are forced upon them.                  Uniforms are an identifying outfit or style of dress (dictionary.com).  Uniforms are also costly.  On an average, according to Truman Lewis’s article on family strains due to uniforms, a parent will spend anywhere from $100 to $400 on uniforms (“Back to School Spending Strains Family Budgets”). Different schools require different brands, different styles, and most will require even a gym uniform to be bought to avoid inappropriate short length for the girls. Not only do the actual articles of clothing cost more, but the child, or the parent of the child, is going to spend extra money on the clothes the child wants to wear outside of the school walls. One way for children to express themselves is through the style of clothing they wear. It sets the child apart from another. Uniforms are teaching that it is acceptable to be like every other person. A cloned generation is not what the nation needs; it needs variety. America is based on variety and that explains its successfulness. It is...

School Uniforms

...School Uniforms Should be Implemented in School? The public schooling system of the United States of America is now beginning to incline to a stricter approach in insisting upon the introduction of uniforms for students. This issue has given birth to a range of debates as many argue against uniforms at schools. However, school uniforms should be implemented in schools. There are reasonable arguments against the implementation of school uniforms. Some people think that it limits students' way of expressing themselves and creates certain inconveniences for the families in terms of spending money on purchasing. However, these concerns can be easily disproved. While school uniform restrain the students' abilities to express themselves physically, it encourages students to express themselves through actions and words, give an opportunity to impress verbally creating specific attitudes and emotions and develop positive self-esteem (Rockney). What is more, school uniforms should be implemented in schools because they help conduce social equality among students and diminish class distinction by means of discouraging bullying based on appearance. If schools implement uniforms, there will be less peer pressure to own the most fashionable clothes and lower rates of violence (Wilkins 21-22). As a result, students will perform better academically if they feel safe and there is no threat. In order not to be unsubstantiated, there is a necessity to turn to certain researches and...

...Intro I am a student that has attended 3 schools and has always worn a school uniform, a mate has never experienced any issues with school uniforms, and have noticed a few issues that can be prevented from the use of a uniform. Uniforms, not only had they been proven to be helpful at school, but they are also helpful at home. Base Parents spend a couple hundred dollars per year on clothing just to make their children meet the latest fashion. An average shop favoured by many teenagers, such as International, sells a piece of clothing for around $40 each! Parents can really find this money useful while paying bills. Uniforms are cheap, after a mate when his primary, his parents had a lot of excess money to spend because of uniform! A typical gang trait is to have a gang name, gang color, and other characteristics, that make them diverse this makes parent spend money on clothes that children don?t need. There is a possibility of violence due to an article of clothing. If a student is dressed up similar to a member of a gang, another student who does not like that gang might plan to attack that person. In this case uniforms can protect the safety of another. Many people believe if you compare a uniform school with a non-uniform school, you?ll see that violence is much popular in the non-uniform school. As said above clothing can be quite expensive, how would one feel if their garment has been misplaced or stolen? A lot of students love to brag about their shoes, especially...
