Riordan Manufacturing requires an all-inclusive system to maintain current and historical records for the sales and marketing department. These records are not currently centrally located and therefore are difficult to access throughout the company. The addition of server solutions will negate this issue and provide access to all of this information throughout the company and provide access to all sales agents in the field. Maintaining the customer base and expanding upon that base are vital to the success of the company and will require solutions that limit system access to only authorized personnel and devices. Having sales agents in different areas of the world and constantly traveling will require that they have mobility and flexibility to access the information that will ensure they are able to perform their duties. A server system will be installed to monitor mobile access to the network and VPN.

The home office will be the site for all of the servers and network abilities to ensure one central location to the information provided by the company. The sales and marketing department will have one server dedicated to it for their information. This will physically remain in the IT department but will be logically placed in the Sales and Marketing Department. This system would be ideally a system that is easily expandable, yet secure enough to permit only authorized access by checking credentials on the active directory server. This server will connect to the active directory server, web server, and file sharing server. All of these servers will be inner connected to other departments as well. The server will have two directories, one for current data and the other for historical data. The Dell PowerEdge T710 Tower Server is the ideal server solution for the Sales and Marketing Department at this time as it will provide enough space for the current documentation and historical documentation as well as provide enough speed to permit remote access to view the information along with interdepartmental access. This server solution will provide the needed space and power to grant multiple users access to the stored information. This server will give the department the ability to store all of its information such as profit loss statements, historical data, current data, and plans to forecast future budgets.

One server will be implemented as the intranet server and will bring all of the information from all departments into one centralized location for all employees of the company to gain access to the shared company information. This server will utilize the same server scheme as the Sales and Marketing Department and will provide mobile access through a VPN along with remote access through the same means. Each sales agent, no matter their location, will have access to the information required so long as they have an internet connection. Each location will have shared access to their departmental information through the same server at the home office. This server will be equipped with dedicated connections to the file server, connected to each departmental server, and the active directory server to verify credentials of each user accessing the network. The intranet will be the ideal means of communication between each location and agent.

Quickbase software will be the software medium to allow for the sales agents to submit and view reports of customers while allowing them to process new customers. The agents are required to visit tradeshows throughout the year and this software will give them the ability to process new clients, vendors, and orders in real time without the need to submit separate Excel sheets with all of the information to the Sales and Marketing Department. The Sales and Marketing Department will have access to this software to streamline all of the information to and from field agents and other departments as required.

Permanent customer data will be added into a database on its own server that will use SQL database coding. This will allow for the database to be viewed in a webpage setting without the need for added software configuration. This database can be stored separately of the intranet server to allow for unrestricted growth and individual maintenance.

The information gathering process has been completed and we must move on to the next step in our SDLC. Riordan’s executive management has made clear that they wish to make the system more efficient and secure. While conducting our analysis of the Riordan Manufacturing we found many issues that need to be addressed and several inefficiencies. We also found many security concerns that need to be addressed in the interest of the company and its personnel. Application architecture and process design Designing forms and reports is a user-focused activity that typically follows a prototyping approach (Dennis, Wixom, & Roth, Chapter 8, 2009). Prototypes may help to model desired behavior, design the user interface, or analyze resource utilization (Bass, Clements, & Kazman, Chapter 1, 2003). The analyst will take in to consideration the data we compiled during part one of the service request to design a prototype of the system. This prototype will be heavily based on the needs and goals of Riordan Manufacturing executive management and take in to account some of the input from the human resources department management and staff. Riordan Manufacturing Hris Analysis

...Riordan Manufacturing HRIS Analysis University of Phoenix BSA/375 July 15, 2010 Riordan Manufacturing HRIS Analysis The ability to analyze and study the needs of an organization is an essential skill for a systems analyst. A systems analyst uses the concept of analysis and design to maintain and improve their information systems. The main goal of systems analysis and design is to improve organizational systems, typically through applying software that can help employees accomplish key business tasks more easily and efficiently (citation). The first steps that need to be taken in systems improvement are research and analyzing the scope and feasibility of a new project. Systems Analysis Approach The information-gathering technique and design method proposed for this project is the Rapid Application Development method, acronym RAD. The RAD methodology is a process in which research of user requirements is compiled before producing any detailed system design documents. Using this approach decreases the time needed to design and implement new systems. Factors of Successful Analysis The Rapid Application Development method incorporates using three different approaches of systems analysis. These sub-approaches are Prototyping, Computer-Assisted Software Engineering Tools, and Joint Application Design. By using the three different perspectives, RAD streamlines the entire systems analysis and design process. Prototyping Prototyping is the building...

...Analyze HR System I Shane Maher BSA/375 03/31/2011 David Bruce Analyze HR System I For the Riordan Manufacturing service request the requestor Hugh McCauley has stated that the current HR system should be more “sophisticated, state-of –the art, information systems technology in our Human Resources department” which was stated in the service request SR-rm-004. The scope and feasibility will set up so that the best solution for achieving the goals of a technically new system is obtained. This paper will also identify the key factors to make this happen, the process will be gathering information regarding employees and the current system. Surveys and questionnaires along with face to face interviews which have worked in the HR department, other sources will be in the form of journals, books and experts in the related field. For the system to be developed and be implemented at the needs of Riordan, the SDLC will be making sure all five phases are completed. Investigation, Analysis, design, Implementation and Maintenance. Service Request Sr-Rm-004, Part 2

...Service Request SR-rm-004, Part 2 BSA 375 November 15, 2010 Mary Burton Currently Riordan uses a very conventional, antiquated process for inventory management. Most inventory checks are done through a printed form and then handed off to an Inventory Clerk for data entry. This process consumes time and allows room for human error. To enhance the inventory management at Riordan Manufacturing, implementation of a barcode scanning system and Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) system is recommended. This system will provide full automation of inventory tracking from the receipt of raw materials to the shipment of finished products. This will reduce human error, accelerate the movement of inventory, and reduce stock-out. In addition, it will solve Riordan’s supply chain problem by implementing a shorter and more efficient supply chain process. Riordan Manufacturing’s objective in implementing a new inventory management process is to increase revenue and financial stability. Automation of the inventory management system will lessen human discrepancies/errors thus minimizing lost revenue/cost. The system will also minimize the time the current staff would need to enter manually inventory data allowing the company to effectively use those resources in other areas of the organization. This proposal outlines the need for Riordan Manufacturing to implement a new system(s) that will enhance their current inventory and manufacturing processes. Suggested implementation...

It would take a team of experts in various fields to successfully see this stage successfully through to completion, it cannot be a one-man show. Several departments within the organization have to be given priority when it comes to rolling out the new human resource management system. Since this system is automated and rests on an Information Technology platform, the first two departments to consider would be the human resource management and Information Technology departments. All the teams of professionals within these departments would have to be part and parcel of the entire system design and development process. The other departments to consider would be those of finance and operations management as they too are a fundamental part of the organization’s decision making framework. Coding As the new human resource management system is designed for Riordan Manufacturing, it is imperative to consider all its essential features and functions so as to ensure a flawless module is developed.
