How to Build Self Confidence
Recognize your insecurities. What does that voice in the back of your mind say? What makes you uncomfortable or ashamed of yourself? This could be anything from acne, to regrets, friends at school or a past traumatic or negative experience. Whatever is making you feel unworthy, ashamed, or inferior, identify it, give it a name, and write it down. You can also tear these written pieces to start feeling positive on those points. Bounce back from your mistakes. Remember that no one is perfect. Even the most confident people have insecurities. At some point in any of our lives, we may feel we lack something. That is reality. Learn that life is full of bumps down the road. And that often these insecure feelings come and go, depending on where we are, who we are with, the mood we are in, how we are feeling. In other words, they are not constant. Identify your successes. Everyone is good at something, so discover the things at which you excel, then focus on your talents. Give yourself permission to take pride in them. Give yourself credit for your successes. Inferiority is a state of mind in which you've declared yourself a victim. Do not allow yourself to be victimized. Express yourself, whether it is through art, music, writing, etc. Find something you enjoy. Everyone is born with talents and strengths. Be Positive, even if you don't feel the same way. Avoid self-pity, or the pity and sympathy of others. Never allow others to make you feel inferior--they can only do so if you let them. Instead, speak positively about yourself, about your future, and about your progress. Do not be afraid to project your strengths and qualities to

How to Build Up Self-Confidence

...Undoubtedly, self-confidence plays such an important role in people’s life that someone with self-confidence is more likely to succeed even though confronting with a difficult situation while people feeling inferior to others can lose chances that they could have got. Then, many people would ask, how to build up self-confidence exactly? I should tell those people for certain that there is no absolute or exact solution to the problem of lacking self-confidence. For people who are unconfident have different reasons to feel inferior. Therefore the first thing is to figure out who you are and why you are not confident about yourself. For those who are born pessimistic, they should try to look at the good side and always give themselves optimistic hints like seeing the glass half full instead of half empty. For those who are experiencing defeat for the moment, it’s quite normal to doubt themselves and ask the question “Do I make the right choice at the beginning?” But the truth is, those obstacles are what you must learn to deal with on your road to success. So for now all you need is to get some rest and calm down to analyze how come the failure. With some adjustment, you’ll find your confidence and passion in your work soon. By saying rest, I mean traveling, reading a wonderful book, anything that suits you best. I used to be very unconfident. Throwing my mind back to my middle school time, I once was too afraid or say, too unconfident to stand in front of the class to answer a...

Confidence

...Confidence Confidence is a condition of the mind, not an instinctive trait. Confidence is a feeling that makes you think that you are capable of doing something with ease and calmness. Self confidence is something that helps lead to accomplishments. It is the first step to achievement and success. Even if you have a lot of abilities and a lot of knowledge, if you do not have self-confidence you cannot be a success. But, on the contrary, even if you have only average abilities and knowledge, if you have an unfailingly true self-confidence, chances are that you will achieve what you want to. Sometimes a lack of self-confidence stems merely from a lack of experience. For example you may not feel so confident about taking the SAT test or acting in a stage play if you have never done it before. These feelings will change as you grow and experience more things in your life. Sometimes, however, a lack of self-confidence can stem from feelings of insecurity. Sometimes we have bad feelings about ourselves and we bury them deep inside. When we do this, we tend not to assert ourselves and take chances because we fear our "secrets" will be revealed. If your lack of self-confidence stems from bad feelings you harbor about yourself, you are also experiencing something perfectly normal and common. But it is a normal feeling that you can and should change. Those who are low in self confidence doubt their ability. Confidence plays a very important role in an individuals success be it...

Tips for Parents of Gifted Girls

...following tips will be helpful to parents and family members of gifted girls to stimulate the development of the gifted girl’s self-esteem and confidence. 1. As parents, be coaches, not judges. Coaches encourage, have high expectations, praise, criticize, and set limits, but children believe coaches on the same team. Parents who are continuously judgmental alienate their children because children feel like they are against them. 2. Emphasize intelligence, hard work, independence, sensitivity, and perseverance in your daughters. De-emphasize the importance of appearance. Relationships that are appearance-based fade as may pretty appearances. 3. Set as high expectations for your daughters as for your sons. 4. Teach healthy competition. Encourage the exhilaration of winning, but don't always let girls win. Winning builds confidence; losing builds character. 5. Don't pressure your daughters to fit in socially. Many girls feel different during adolescence. Help them to feel comfortable with their differences and redirect their energies toward positive activities. 6. Encourage your daughters to be involved in all-girl activities like Girl Scouts, and consider all-girl classes or schools if boys cause them to lose confidence or distract from their learning. 7. Encourage your daughters to read stories about successful women. This helps to build positive role models. 8. Don't let birth order get in the way of giving each of your daughters leadership opportunities...

Gen 200

...Research Strategy Paper on the Lack of Self-Confidence GEN/200 Research Strategy Paper on the Lack of Self-Confidence Johnson Pope, an English poet, said, “Self-confidence is the first requisite to great undertakings.” However, I definitely do not have that quality. Self-confidence describes a person who has faith on themselves. A problem that affects me every day is my lack of self-confidence. My self-confidence affects me in my decision making, career, and social skills. It also affects me when I am passing up opportunities that can be rewarding. An example how my self-confidence affects me is when I will not stand a chance competing against another person. I do not do well in a challenge. I give in easily. I doubt about myself and my abilities to do any task. The fear of rejection and failure hunts me every day. My lack of self-confidence overly preoccupies me with what others think. What I need to do is build confidence and take charge of my life to overcome my problem. One of the methods I can use to work on my self-confidence is looking for a support group. They are a lot of internet support groups or blogs about self-confidence that I can rely for support. I feel that if I can share my feelings without face-to-face time, I can open up more to my feelings and assist me better. Another place that I can use to gather information is to see a Psychologist. Psychologists are trained individuals and with a tremendous amount of experience that can be use in assist...

Ways to Be More Confident

...the Life of Your Dreams By Lori Deschene “With realization of one’s own potential & self confidence in one’s ability, one can build a better world.” ~Dalai Lama For the vast majority of my life I didn’t believe I could do most of the things I wanted to do. I knew I wanted to be in a relationship, but I feared that if I got into one I’d do something to mess it up. I wanted to perform on Broadway, but even moving to New York City didn’t give me the courage to audition. I wanted to be a writer, but I thought it was far too difficult to get published, and therefore didn’t even try until I turned 27. Maybe you’ve never been as unsure of yourself as I used to be, but you can likely relate to that feeling of wanting to do something but feeling terrified to start[->1]. This not only limits your potential in life; it also minimizes your ability to make a positive impact on the world around you. There’s a lot that goes into overcoming those fears. You may need to challenge limiting beliefs formed years ago, or take yourself out of a situation where other people undermine your abilities. One thing that will definitely help is working on your confidence. Not sure if confidence can be learned? I asked this question[->2] on the Tiny Buddha Facebook page[->3] to see what readers had to say and then used some of their responses to shape these 8 steps outlined below: 1. Tap into the confidence you were born with. I feel it’s something that is always there, something you’re born with...

How to Stop Being Conscious

...How to Stop Feeling Self Conscious Why do you feel self-conscious? Is it the way you look or the way you think you look? Who is judging you and why do you care about their opinions? This article will provide some strategies to help you decrease feelings of self consciousness that interfere with everyday life. Steps: * Identify what you're terribly conscious about. A certain aspect of your appearance? The twitch in your eye? Your accent? Your Disability? Your intellectual abilities? Make a list of these things and next to each item, write something you can do to improve it. * Figure out who you're trying to please and why. What kind of expectations are making you so self conscious? Is everyone around you picture perfect, or are you comparing yourself to airbrushed models in magazines? Have you convinced yourself that no one else has twitches, or flaws, or trips? Stop for a second and turn that self-criticism outwards. No one is perfect, and you've never noticed their little quirks before, so why would they pay so much attention to yours? Just feel like there's no need to worry and always picture yourself like you know you look and feel good in front of others, but don't think about it too much because it will already be embedded. * Redirect your attention. When you start to feel self conscious, locate a target - it doesn't matter what it is, it may be the bug crawling across the floor - and concentrate on it. What color is it? How many legs? Anything that...

Confidence

...Things I Need To Work On and Things That I Am Confidence In There are many personal motivations that I need to work on to be honest, but the two main ones are my confidence and managing my time. Sometimes I feel like I have no confidence in myself in whatever I’m doing so I tend to give up easily, not because I want to but the faith I have in myself is low so I can’t get the job done. To me people have more confidence in me which I find to be bad because I’m supposed to have confidence in myself not people having more confidence than me in myself, and as of right now I’m working on building that self-confidence for myself because it will make me a better person. I don’t managing my time wisely which is my biggest down fall and I think it will hurt me later on in life. I tend to do things that are fun whenever I got homework to do or when I have something important that has to be done which cause me to have no self-management at all over my time, also I don’t take responsibility for own behavior or well-being. This is because if you have an attitude towards me instead of me walking away I will have one with you too and that will just take up my time when I can be doing something productive with my time like reading a book or doing homework. I also look out for other instead of looking out for me which is kind of bad because I’m supposed to look out for me first before I look out for anybody else well-being. I have some areas that I am confident in like for example being...

The Journey to Finding Confidence

...The Journey to Finding Confidence The walk home from school during my elementary years was something I loved. Not only did I look forward to it because it meant that school was over for the day, I also looked forward to it because it was one of the few times I had to myself. Amidst the chaos of little kids laughing, screaming, and racing each other home, I would tune out the noise and just think. Eventually I would make it home; my time alone would expire, and I would find myself looking forward to tomorrow’s walk home from school. However, one day the walk home was anything but pleasant. As I was passing the open fields of the horse stables, I heard a voice from behind sing, “Fatty, fatty, you’re a fatty!” Furious as ever, I quickly turned around and told the kid to stop. Once again he chanted, “Fatty, fatty, you’re a fatty!” In my final attempt to stop this kid from bullying me I said, “Say it again and see what happens!” Unfortunately, this backfired and the kid again repeated these words. With no real defense, I was forced to run home and bawl my eyes out. Bell Hooks wrote in Talking Back, “Moving from silence into speech is for the oppressed, the colonized, the exploited, and those who stand and struggle side by side a gesture of defiance that heals, that makes new life and new growth possible. (208)” Through this experience and others similar to it an opportunity for self-growth was opened. In my life, I have experienced or are experiencing obstacles that I...

I have learned a lot of new things and experienced being with the best people. Being a part of the Documentation Area, headed by Ms. Karla Aban, was a great opportunity for me to gain valuable experience and have a much better understanding of many things. This area has helped me to know myself better. It has taught me skills I will take with me to my future courses. Now I know how to use excel in encoding, contact people through e-mail, and gain deeper knowledge when it comes to different kinds of contracts used when purchasing a property. Also with the help of this practicum I was able to know how to set goals and be disciplined enough to reach those goals by the deadline. I kept a small notebook and wrote down each day what I needed to do. I also tried to break down longer tasks into smaller pieces. I always do ask my co-workers if there is anything I can do to help them. This experience has really forced me to become organized. Being able to organize will help me in everything I do in college and at work. Also one thing I learned from my co-workers is to not be afraid to ask for help. They made me realized that in the working world, everyone helps each other out if someone has a problem. They told me that working in teams is important...

Tai Chi Life Plan

...part of a daily/weekly ritual I like to call “Words of Wisdom.” They are my thoughts on various aspects of life. These thoughts are brought to me through meditation and some research. The goal of these, “Words of Wisdom” is to focus on areas of unbalance in my life and plan my approach to getting them in balance. The following is my approach and thoughts on self confidence Believing in one’s self is a structured characteristic. Self confidence isn’t obtained easily this is because there are several aspects of one’s life that must be balanced in order for self confidence to be obtained. One can’t just get confidence it is an earned characteristic and must be tried and tested. High ego or cockiness can easily be mistaken for confidence because most people associate lack of fear with being confident. However confidence is an understanding of who you are and realizing that with hard work, sound planning, and self sacrifice you can accomplish your goals. Confidence also is the acceptance of failure and realizing that not every goal is achieved the first time. You may need to re-analyze, meditate, and re-plan. Having confidence helps make this process fluid. Remember some goals take a longer time to achieve...

Brilliant Public Speaking

...most interesting is to treat the presentation as if you are holding a conversation with the audience. We hold conversations every day so if the speaker feels like he or she is having a conversation the presentation will appear more natural. The first few moments are vital to the success of the performance. If a speaker appears comfortable and confident from the beginning, I think that the audience will be more accepting of mistakes later in the speech. If a speaker seems to be nervous and lacks confidence, the audience may not listen as intently as they should. The best advice that I could give someone about public speaking would be to know his or her subject. When I am speaking to an audience about something that I know and believe in, I am more confident and relaxed. Moreover, when I am speaking about something that I have recently learned I am worried that there may be information about the subject that I may not know yet. This perceived problem could cause a lack of self-confidence even if it is not true. In addition, I would advise them to relax, be themselves and do...
