...BUS 309 Assignment #2 Old Smoke Ronic West Instructor BUS309 February 26, 2012 Abstract This is our second assignment for Bus 309 we are to write on case study 8.4. Regarding Old Smoke and follow the metric for this assignment described in the course syllabus. If I was Charles Renfold I would closely weigh the options and look at what other companies in my field are doing with smoking policies. Companies are passing more and more no smoking laws for employees even going as far as employees cannot smoke on the grounds of work. With these considerations I would come up with a designate smoker’s area for my smoking employees. Charles will need to consider her opinion because she is the only employee that can complete an extremely important report for the company. Charles could show his smoking employees how to complete the report for his managers. I find it disturbing personally that a company still allow employees to still smoke inside the building. Then to allow employees to air out the room by opening windows this obvious cannot be healthy for anyone involved. I feel breaks should be built into the work day to insure productivity is still kept at a maximum. Maybe two breaks and lunch for all employees. I think of the companies that are banding smoking from the entire campus how is this being handled. I would definitely build in breaks into the work day and make a designation smokers...

The Pressures of Work Environments

...Shana V. Mitchell Bus-309 Business Ethics Professor Garry Williams Mid-Term Report 3 November 2011 1. Describe how typical the attitudes that Sheehy reports appear to be in work environments you have experienced. -I have worked in many different types of environments and have experienced many different attitudes of my fellow co-workers. There are some who are messy, just talk about others for no reason; there were others who were mean with nasty attitudes very unpleasant and rude to customers. Being lazy was a very big issue because no one wanted to work together and help out, they only were to do just what they had to do and nothing more, but they would want to steal time by staying longer hours but doing nothing, and they would also steal supplies from the daycare to use at their homes. Sheehy’s co-workers were trying to get rid of their customers as fast as possible. 2. Explain the implications of the work ethic Sheehy describes for the future of American Business. -Because of the lack of respect and work ethics, employees will become unappreciative and unreliable, because they don’t care. Exploitation will occur when the employer start to give the employee long hours, and less pay which will cause the employees to rebel and not care about the importance of doing their job responsibly. 3. Explain whether it is more reasonable to expect workers, especially in a capitalist society, to be more devoted to their jobs, more concerned...

Poverty and Pollution

...Assignment 2 Poverty and Pollution Case Jaime Mesia BUS 309 – Business Ethics Strayer University May, 30th 2013 Assignment 2 Poverty and Pollution Case Jaime Mesia BUS 309 – Business Ethics May, 30th 2013 Abstract Urban living is the keystone of modern human ecology. Cities have multiplied and expanded rapidly worldwide over the past two centuries. Cities are sources of creativity and technology, and they are the engines for economic growth. However, they are also sources of poverty, inequality, and health hazards from the environment. Urban populations have long been incubators and gateways for infectious diseases. The early industrializing period of unplanned growth and laissez-faire economic activity in cities in industrialized countries has been superseded by the rise of collective management of the urban environment. This occurred in response to environmental blight, increasing literacy, the development of democratic government, and the collective accrual of wealth. In many low-income countries, this process is being slowed by the pressures and priorities of economic globalization. Beyond the traditional risks of diarrhea disease and respiratory infections in the urban poor and the adaptation of various vector-borne infections to urbanization, the urban environment poses various physicochemical hazards. These include exposure to lead, air pollution, traffic hazards, and the ‘‘urban heat island’’ amplification of heat waves. As the number of urban...

Commercialization of Organ Transplants

...Assignment 1: Commercialization of Organ Transplants Ollie Cook Strayer University BUS 309 Prof. Mark McMullen June 18, 2014 Commercialization of Organ Transplants 1. Briefly summarize the arguments for and against the commercialization of transplants that you found in your research. There are many who have expressed their feelings on the subject of commercializing organ transplants. One argument for the commercialization of organ transplants is “the possibility to supply 100% of the demand for organs.” An argument for those against the commercialization of organ transplants is,” the less fortunate (poor) whose organs now have monetary value and are vulnerable to exploitation in a growing industry known as “transplant tourism” (Corydon Ireland, Harvard News Office). The outcome of commercialized organ transplants may seem beneficial to all, but it is actually not for those affected by the illegal actions taken to obtain said organs. 2. Formulate your position on the debate of whether or not the sale of organs should be permitted. I feel that everyone has a right to choose whether he/she wants to sell organs for monetary gain or simply be a Good Samaritan by donating organs. Although many donors, which is a highly positive thing- you can help save several lives and touch many more. I believe that the stipulations that are in place today should be better enforced and monitored for those who make the choice to profit from organ transplants. The...

A New Work Ethic

...Running Head: A NEW WORK ETHIC 1 A New Work Ethic: Case Study 4.4 Patricia Woodhouse Harry Mamaux Business Ethics- Bus 309 October 30, 2011 A New Work Ethic 2 1. Describe how typical the attitudes that Sheehy reports appear to be on the work environments you have experienced. After reviewing the case study a new work ethic, it reminds me of the job I have today. The workers attitudes are just that of my coworkers I work with every day. There attitudes are unbelievable. I currently work in Customer Service for a major cable, internet and phone provider. Most employees at my place of employment don’t value their jobs. They don’t see customer service in their future and many say it’s not their last stop. They too don’t like hard work and long hours. I often hear co-workers brushing customers off the phone with a quick transfer to another department, that can’t even resolve that customers issues. Many of them don’t have any work ethic. Work ethic is a belief in the moral benefit and importance of work and its inherent ability to strengthen character. I think the importance of work will show if you are performing in a job that you love. In most work environments that I have worked in it’s the same. My co-workers hated that job, they hated the long hours and they hated the...
