CASE FIVE Case 5: Ford and the World Automobile Industry in 2012 This case explores the development and evolution of the automobile industry. Although this case covers the industry and all of its major players on a global level, a large portion of it is about the U.S. automakers – especially Ford. The automobile industry is one of the largest industries in the world, and like every other industry, it is not always a profitable one. Because of saturated markets, new competitors, environmental concerns, new technologies, and the growing use of electronic cars, has had a strong impact on the industry.

Similar to other industries, the rapid growth of technology has caused automakers to constantly adjust their manufacturing process and product designs. This technology boost allowed car manufactures to now produce cars in a fraction of the time it took previously. This lean production allowed plants to increase their capacity and output. This growth of production capacity had surpassed the growth in the demand for cars. This caused an extreme surplus of cars and excess capacity – especially in North America. This new technology also prompted…...

...ADMS 4495 Midterm Notes Chapter 1: A work team is an interdependent collection of individuals who share responsibility for specific outcomes for their organizations. A team is a group of people with respect to information, resources and skills who seek to combine efforts to achieve a common goal. It has 5 characteristics: 1. Shared Goal 2. Interdependence- members cannot achieve goals by themselves. To meet goals you must rely on other members. 3. Bounded- identifiable membership (know who’s on the team). 4. Stability- teams work together for a meaningful length of time. (Tenure). 5. Authority to manage own work and internal processes. Teams operate in larger social system context. (Larger organization) A working group by contrast, consists of people who learn from one another and share ideas but are not interdependent in an important fashion and are not working towards a shared goal. Help others but maintain the goal of achieving independent goals. 4 Challenges proving importance of teams: 1. Customer Service- Transactional models of teamwork are characterized by discrete exchanges, are short term in nature and contain little interactions between customer and the vendor. In contrast relational models of teamwork occur over time , are more intense, and are built upon a relationship between the people involved. 2. Competition- Industry leaders often enjoy vast economies of scale and earn tremendous profits. Teams withing......

...News Article BUS 600 Dr. Baldonado November 28, 2013 Abstract The success or failure of a company depends on a series of decisions made by the company’s leadership. Although there are companies that have had short term success by making unethical decisions history has demonstrated that a company tends to have more long term success when the leadership makes ethical decisions. A prime example is when Johnson & Johnson’s CEO in the 1980s made a series of ethical decisions that contributed to the success of the company. During the Tylenol crisis James E. Burke made decisions that cost the company a substantial amount of money in the short term to protect the public’s safety. In the long term Johnson & Johnson’s productivity increased and it is still a profitable company today. A CEO’s decision making skills often have a direct impact on the success or failure of a company. Although there are many examples of unscrupulous business practices across industries this paper will examine a case where a CEO acted ethically. Specifically, it will discuss the impact of former CEO James E. Burke’s leadership decisions on his company Johnson & Johnson in the 1980s. Both the financial impact and the ethical impact of his decisions will be analyzed. James E. Burke’s heroic decision is a classic example of ethical leadership in action. In late September 1982 a twelve year old girl died after taking Tylenol painkillers (Fletcher , 2009) Later that day a postal......

...According to Chapter 4 “Ethics and Ethical Reasoning”, I learned that not only in our life but also in the business, people attach importance to ethics and morals. Morals exist in our mind, it seems that the rules people set for themselves. But for different people, they have different requirement for themselves, which is a kind of self-control and self-management. Ethics is the consensus of everybody, which are the binding rules, all of us should follow it. In the business, Morals equal to value, specifically, it symbolizes personal value. Ethics equal to profit. In my viewpoint, I think it means that only following the rules can keep the whole business operating normally After I watch the video that Carly Fiorina introduce her book “Tough Choices”, the author teach me a lot. Choice constitutes our life, we make many choices everyday, choice decide which direction we will go in the future. In her book. there are two main point she attached importance to, leadership and change. People fear change because it is unknown, they need to be better and strong to overcome difficulties. so .they also have bravery to try and have ability to through the barrier. The leaders in the companies who stay in the higher position with more power and responsibility should make the wise decision to lead their teams and companies to get a good future. They need to keep change, and also motivate and encourage their employee to keep change to support the dynamic to the company developing. ......

...ADMS 3660R 2016 Final Take-home Exam Due 9 April 2016 Please read the following hypothetical scenario and the follow the instructions below. Scenario TideeKleen Waste Management Inc. (TK) has been regarded as a leader in corporate citizenship within the Canadian commercial waste recycling and disposal sector, with a strong reputation for social and environmental responsibility. The company’s workers are unionized, well-paid, and enjoy a generous health benefits package and defined-benefit pension plan. Unfortunately, TK has been in a financial and reputational slump of late. Although there are no foreseeable threats to its solvency, TK’s profit margins are thinner than in the past and its stock price has been sagging. TK operates several facilities for sorting and processing solid waste (some of which, such as fluorescent tubes and electronic devices, containing potential hazardous components). Its newer facilities are state-of-the-art: high-tech, largely automated, and very safe for both workers and the environment. These new facilities employ a small, mostly young and highly skilled work force. They are very profitable. The older facilities are approaching the end of their functional lifespans, and the company will need to replace their capacity in order to continue to fulfill their contracts with waste generators. Many of the workers at the older facilities are themselves older and are approaching retirement. One of the older facilities, though complying......

... Bus 600 Management Communications with Technology Tools Why is communication competence in the workplace, an important aspect of one’s business? First, we must examine the explanation of the terms. Communication competence is the ability to choose a communication behavior that is both appropriate and effective for a given situation. Interpersonal competency allows one to achieve their communication goals without causing the other party to lose face. I will examine these practices in the business I work at part time. It is called Sinus Dynamics, we are a closed-door pharmacy, I will examine how the failure of certain communications can affect one’s business morale, and turnover rates. In 1968 researchers, Martin and Anderson stated communication is a process in which both receivers and senders can affect one another. So how critical can this be if both or one fail to communicate properly to the other? Business is one place where a manager or leader must possess a competency in many areas of communication, to effectively have a positive impact on their companies. Competencies are behaviorally defined characteristics that can affect any performance within a huge range of tasks. How a person should behave in order to achieve their objectives for their roles within their job organization. If a person can have these competencies, it will help them to meet challenges they may face daily at their jobs and an ever-changing workplace. If they can possess and build......

...Running Head: ADA VERSUS ADM ADA versus ADM Christina Dickinson Grand Canyon University: EDA 535 November 8, 2011 ADA Versus ADM Many factors must go into account when distributing funds in schools. Some of the funds must be distributed between administration, teachers and support staff salaries, bus drivers, coaches, and school police to name a few. Once all the funds are distributed throughout the district, then the focus becomes on student allocation. When allocating money for students, the school district needs to take into consideration meal plans for the lower economical students, after school activities, and extra-curricular programs. The question becomes whether or not we allocate funds bases on our students daily attendance or their average daily membership? In order to determine how student funds should be allocated we must understand what average daily attendance (ADA) and average daily membership (ADM) and the differences between the two. It is important to also understand how each of them could be applies to our school districts budget. According to EdSource, average daily attendance is defined as the total number of days of attendance for all students divided by the total number of school days in a given period (2011). There are many aspects to think about when deciding whether ADA will work for our school district. As a school district, we must look into how many students we have to provide funding for throughout the entire district. We......
