1.0 Introduction
The word entrepreneur is derived from the French word “entreprendre” that means to eundertakei.i.e... The person who undertakes the risk of new enterprise. The word entrepreneur, consequently, first acted in the French language in the commencement of the sixteenth century.
The word was also applied to the leaders of military expedition. But it was Richard Cantilon, an Irishman, living in France who first used the term entrepreneur to refer to economic activities. According to Cantilon: “an entrepreneur is a person who buys factor services at certain prices with a view to selling its product at uncertain prices.” Thus, to Cantilon, an entrepreneur is a carrier of risk which is non-insurable.
One of the most well-known French economists Jean Baptiste Say defined the term entrepreneur in an expressive manner. According to J.B Say: “an entrepreneur is the agent who unites all the factors of production and who finds in value of the products the re-establishment of the entire capital he employs and the value of wages.” Effectuation, as abstracted by sarasvathy (2001), is a substitute process of decision making in contrast to the leading one of causation in management literature.

Fitzgerald Dorsey Spring 2013 Deadline: April 28, 2013 Submitted: April 28, 2013 Develop an argument supporting the importance of a strategic plan for the success of the defined business. The defined business, in the instance for Life Time Fitness, the importance of a strategic plan is undisputable. In Crafting & Executing Strategy: The Quest for Competitive Advantage: Concepts and Cases Arthur A. Thompson, Jr., A.J. Strickland III, and John E. Gamble (2009) state that “a company’s strategy is management’s action plan for running the business and conducting operations” (Thomson, 2009). Additionally to further clarify that a company’s strategy is all about how management intends to grow the business, how it will build a loyal custom and competitive competitors, how each functional piece of the business will be operated, and how performance will be boosted. Luckily, one of her friends was available and willing to check on her cat but the solution was not perfect because the two of them haven’t met before and her friend was not knowledgeable about cats. Any cat owner knows how difficult it is to find a trusted sitter, who not only understands the needs of your pet and of the owner but with whom you are in confidence enough to give him the keys of your flat. Catalina was always reluctant to leave her cat in a hotel or to call a professional sitter, for the same reasons: “I would not leave my cat in the hands of a stranger and give him my keys. ... Writing your first business plan • Writing your first business plan The best managed businesses see planning as a continuous activity in which they set both long-term and short-term objectives. Having a plan should not be considered a straightjacket, but as a way of ensuring that everyday activities happen in a structured way. Well managed businesses will see a plan as a framework providing the ability to be flexible and responsive when opportunities arise, without being blown totally off course. Knowing that the bulk of your activities are performing according to plan will give you the freedom to explore those opportunities. Regular monitoring of how a business is performing is also important to determine if goals and objectives are being met. Surveys of small and growing businesses suggest that those who plan are more likely to make a higher profit. Ideally, you should write down the results of your planning process - though you may find that your plan is best summarised as a list of key objectives together with a budget. There may be occasions, however, when you have to explain the plan to a third party in order to demonstrate a proposed course of action for the business. This is particularly so if you are about to start in business and are seeking financial support. When a business is on top of its planning, it becomes a very straightforward process to summarise the different elements into a written plan. In the same way that a balance sheet gives a snapshot of......
