Network Design Consultation
My neighbor is setting up a small billing business and has no idea where to start and has no equipment. He would like my help it getting him started in the right direction for a successful company for years to come. The first step is to sit with the owner and discuss everything him wants and needs to get up and running. Some of his requests are 2 workstations, 2 laptops and 1 server supporting 3 users, 1 printer, wireless network, a investment budget of $5000.00 and recurring cost of $200.00. The main source of the discussion is working within the budget and recurring monthly amount.
The first major project is do research on who is his major internet carries in the area. After understanding who the carries are, we have to understand what they can and cannot provide and that will help us eliminate internet companies. We have found a couple of local internet providers; Direct TV, Comcast and Verizon. The owner and I took an extensive look at the three local internet companies and decided to go with Verizon. Verizon will provide the overall service we need initially to be successful and the wireless services had the range needed. The HP Laser Jet Pro 400 black and white and color printer is our choice. The HP 400 will produce the professional quality copies we need for billing statements, contract and briefings. The HP 400 has a very dependable wireless performance that will work for the entire office. The HP 400 also supports iOS 4.2 devices such as the iPad, iPhones and prints back and front copies on demand. The took a look a several different billing software products and chose th Quickbook Pro 2013. The reason for this choice is that is was very easy to get started, had a number of upgrades for late and just fit the overall need of the company at this time. The owner made the choice to go with the Star topology because this network features a central connection point call the “hub” or router. They generally connect to the hub or router by the Unshielded twisted pair (UTP) Ethernet. Compared to the bus topology, a star network generally requires more cable, but a failure in any star network cable will only take down one computer's network access and not the entire LAN (Mitchell B., About.Com Guide). Choosing the two (2) workstations wasn’t too hard, because I went with a name I trusted HP I configured two (2) systems.
The Verizon package of choice was a three small business bundle that will include two phone lines and internet for $179.99 monthly. Also with this package Supports multiple computers and VPN connections for remote users, (8) eight Microsoft Outlook mailboxes, Up to 2GB of online back-up using Microsoft SharePoint 3.0, and Microsoft Exchange Server. The HP 400 printer which is network ready and the cost was $249.00. The HP 400 is fits into the owners every need and was very reasonable. We are projecting the owners billing company to grow somewhat quickly because of the current clientele he has already established. Because of the initial investment budget the company cannot invest into a full time IT personal. The company should not be involved with many IT issues with this network to need a full time IT personal on the payroll. With that being said I have advise the company to have an employee to be a network administrator on a part time basis. We have tried to make the network as straight forward as possible.
This network should allow members of the company to share information as well as the company printer. We will make this happen by connect them by a single local access network to one server. This is the ideal way to go in the beginning and if the company needs another server we can just add another server down the road. This network should be able to be manage with moderate technical knowledge and experience.
The employees will need to be able to access all word processing files and multiple used databases. Email will also need to be accessed to include the basic internet to accomplish other internal job requirements. The network server will offer file services. With this network, a server will be set up to store data in such a way that it can be shared by any person in the organization. We will have the network administrator set up a variety of shared folders and control access to multiple folders. The network administrator will set up private folder for each user. Data stored in that folder will not be visible to any other network user. Shared folders also will be created that can be accessed by several individuals. For each shared folder, the network administrator will determine who can read its information and who is allowed to create or modify it. When all shared folders reside on a centralized server, it is relatively easy for users to know where to go to find them. The networking operating system that will be installed will offer an easy to use graphical user interface for controlling access to the information stored on the file server (Breeding, 2011). The new network server will provide several types of service the company control by the network server. One of the most important services is he printer services. The will have the ability to have several employees to be able to print to the single office printer. This process will be more efficient and fit into the budget then purchasing multiple printers for every computer. The wireless network allows the employees the flexibility need to accomplish multiple tasks within the office. The employees will have enough speed and response form the wireless network to complete their work efficiently and effectively. There will multiple application that every employee may need access to during any giving day. Several of the applications will large and take up a lot of space on the individual PC. The applications will be maintain on the server, this will also make it easier to update the application on the server than go to each PC. The whole network overall will accomplish all the current needs of the small billing company but most importantly the network will allow the opportunity for the company to grow.

...The Business Enterprise 1.) Discuss the common elements described in the theories/philosophies of Case, Kouzes, and Drucker including how their principles/strategies relate to the new definition of entrepreneurial leadership presented in Understanding Entrepreneurial Leadership in today’s Dynamic Markets. Case, Kouzes and Drucker each have good theories and philosophies on entrepreneurship and leadership. Each had different ways of stating what they thought made a good entrepreneur but for the most part focus on some of the same things and agreed that with the right balance of these characteristics then succeeding, as an entrepreneur would be possible. One of the common elements that each focused on was people. Interaction with people is important when it comes to entrepreneurship and leadership skills according to Case, Kouzes, and Drucker. Each inferred that if a person does not have people skills, then the person would not succeed as an entrepreneur or a leader. People skills would be the ability to motivate others and interact. A leader cannot lead without being able to interact with people. Starting a business requires interaction with people on some level. Another common element that they all thought were important was not being afraid to take risk. Taking a risk in order to monopolize an industry to succeed is important. The definition of entrepreneurial leadership is one of an enterprising, transformational leader who operates in a dynamic...

...Recording Transactions Keeping business records accurate and up to date is important for the smooth running of a business. The business owner must record all of the money coming into the business from successful sales of the product and all of the money going out, such as expenses including money owed for storage, wages that are paid and money to purchase the stock. If a business fails to do this it may find itself not chasing payments, forgetting to pay bills or, even in trouble with HM Revenue and Customs. If the business does not record its transactions correctly, it cannot report its financial performance accurately and therefore tax payments may be wrong. By recording the sales made, the business owner is given a clear indication of what’s popular and so it becomes clear what products should have increased stock or altered price. In your case, it is very important that you monitor your sales as a new business will most likely not make any profit straight away, so it’s vital to record your transactions so you are able to at least breakeven until more customers become aware of your business and you can start to make a profit. Furthermore, since you have negotiated a one month credit with a supplier, it is important to record your transactions so you know that you can repay the supplier after the month has passed and avoid any consequences. It would be beneficial to you if you could keep your credit supply as then you will have money coming in from your customers to then...

...The United States exists in a capitalistic economy meaning that private enterprise is based on fair competition, economic freedom, and private ownership therefore; business is the heartbeat of our economy. Everything from manufacturing, health care, sales, and agriculture involves business in some way. Businesses provide jobs and produce goods and services that we depend on every day (What Role Does Business Play in Our Economy..?). They pay state and federal taxes to the government on their services provided. The taxes paid by businesses and the people employed by them allow the government to function. Looking at businesses in this way you can clearly see that business is a pivotal part of the economy. Within our economy two types of business organizations exist: for-profit and nonprofit. A for-profit organization will produce goods or services in the hopes of making revenue off its products. Most organizations you think of today are probably a for-profit establishment. Organizations that are classified as not-for-profit or nonprofit often operate under the guise of the emotional appeal of compassion but can also become major economic engines. They are business like establishments but unlike a for-profit business, their primary goals do not include making monetary profits. For profit businesses operate to generate revenue under the idea to have more profit than loss at the end of the day. Unlike for- profit businesses, nonprofits are organizations that are classified...
