...Ghoreishi Best Buy: Strategic Audit June 8, 2015 Current Performance: Best Buy’s historical advantage has always been pricing. However, now that other specialty electronics retailers have dropped out of the market with the fall of Tweeter and Circuit City, Best Buy now must compete with discount retailers such as Kmart, Wal-Mart, Target, Sam’s Club, Costco, as well as online retailers like Amazon. Consumers no longer have to go to Best Buy to purchase DVDs because buyers can get them through dozens of online sellers or stream them online via NetFlix or Amazon. You can buy a Blu-ray player or camera at a discount online. Televisions and appliances are the two products Best Buy sells that many people are less likely to purchase online because of their size and prohibitive shipping costs. If Best Buy wants to continue to be the number one seller of electronics and electronics related accessories such as games, DVD's, and electronic wiring, Best Buy needs to focus on shoring up television and appliance dominance to ensure sufficient foot traffic. Best Buy must also address the phenomenon of 'show rooming', which is the practice of shopping for merchandise in a brick-and-mortar store and later buying online at lower prices. In the past, Best Buy has provided only one week training sessions for new hires. However, as a first step to prevent show rooming, Best Buy will provide...

Is Best Buy the Best?

...Is Best Buy the Best? Is Best Buy the Best? Best Buy is one of the leading retailers in electronics and electronic services. With the growing popularity of online shopping, some retail stores are experiencing less physical business and more e-commerce. Best Buy has adapted to this trend and is still able to maintain many stores throughout the nation. The company simultaneously provides an easily navigated website to reach all of its client preferences. To maintain a structure as this, a company must have superior management and functionality. There are four basic fundamentals that encompass the management of a successful business such as Best Buy. The traditional functions are planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. These functions are affected by several external and internal factors such as globalization, technology, innovation, diversity, and ethics. Five Common Factors In 2010, Best Buy separated itself as a company into three divisions; the Americas, Asia and Europe. Each division was created with an executive vice-president running each area who would report to the Chief Executive Officer (Ernst & Young Global Limited). When the company planned this out, it created a self-paced region instead of the entire company proceeding as a whole. In other words, Asia can progress at a different pace then the Americas in all aspects. This plan enabled all regions and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to use their brains and ideas from clients to develop more efficient...

...Umeed Sherpa Critical Analysis Paper 3 Dr. Christopher Monos BA 3103 Section 008 4th April, 2014 Best Buy Hits Rock Bottom Best buy the specialty retailer of consumer electronics in the United States is no longer the all-powerful super store that it used to be. Over the last fifteen years Best Buy, like many retailers, is “competing with a perfect storm of disruptive technologies (Savitz 2)”; making it hard to compete with companies such as such as Apple and Amazon that are embraced with innovations. As a result, Best Buys 2012 financial performance fell subpar, with a revenue decrease of 2.4% in the brick and mortar sector and operating profit plummeting by 54.30% in 2012. The net loss of the company was $1,231.00 million for 2012, against a net profit of $1,277.00 million during 2011 (Global Data 1). Lastly, Best Buy appears to be having cash flow problems in terms of declining liquidity of $1125 million (41.28% drop) for the year 2011. It is obvious by these numbers that Best Buy, a company that has been historically successful, has been running into some recent troubles. In this report I will conduct a situational analysis of potential causes of Best Buy’s problems and identify the major causes for declining revenue, net loss and declining cash flow position. Revenues Declining Best buy’s main source of revenues is contributed from the US market (76%) out of which the traditional brick and mortar accounts for 94% of the revenues and rest is from e-commerce segment...

Today consumers demand a rapid way to buy a product, and it is the job of information systems to meet the customer’s demands. The internet has become the new standard for information which allows Best Buy to be customer centric. Customer service is extremely valuable because it is much cheaper to keep old customers than it is to attract new ones. It makes sense using the internet as a tool to make customers happy, and Best Buy can do this with its shopping website. Employee Training and Development

...Employee Training and Development Employees are an integral part of an organization’s ultimate success; an organization’s goal should not only be to attract high quality employees, but also to produce them. In order to cope with the rapid changes in the external environments, organizations need to grow and innovate continuously and sustain itself in a highly competitive market by strengthening or expanding knowledge base, skills and abilities of their employees (Truitt, 2011). Thus organizations must implement effective training programs to help their employees gain essential skills they need for success, productivity and enhanced job performance. Training and education have shown to have a significant positive effect on job involvement, job satisfaction and organizational commitment (Truitt, 2011). Effective training programs should foster “positive relationship between learning satisfaction and the effectiveness of the learning applied” (Truitt, 2011, p.2). Training should be aimed to provide employees with proficiency in the execution of given tasks and allows employees to enhance their skills and competence levels and to ensure that they have access to all the resources that they need to support development and growth. Employee training “typically entails personal involvement, commitment, and experiential gains” and involves “learning by doing” (Hughey & Mussnug, 1997, p. ). Positive training may assist with the reduction of anxiety and frustration which most employees...
