Margin Call

...Margin Call J.C. Chandler’s 2011 film Margin Call examines the actions of an investment firm’s key decision makers during the earliest stages of the most recent financial crisis. Chandler does a good job with the characters of this movie he isn’t necessarily looking for a villain in a mess like this nor any lengthy explanations; he’s going deeper than that. He goes more for societal costs of high finance, the power of self-rationalization, and the easy embrace of personal corruption. The movie is filled with business lessons that go beyond the investment world. One theme of the film centers on business ethics and whether personal interest should trump customer/employee investment. Clearly, the decision made by John Tuld and senior management demonstrates that everybody is out for themselves. Personal investors are at the mercy of the individuals and the firms they invest with. The ease with which Tuld makes his decisions is scary to any business ethical viewer. With unqualified statements such as, “its just money” the audience begins to understand that the financial system can be an unfair game. In contrast Peter’s boss, Sam Rogers’ ethical implications of how the company plans to resolve its problems are almost more than he can handle. Sam stumbles upon the issue triggering the crisis, it’s one thing to be shocked at the ramifications of what’s about to unfold. But it doesn’t mean one’s outrage can’t be set aside when personal survival is on the line, an......

Call for Papers for a Special Issue of Journal of Information Technology

...Call for Papers for a Special Issue of Journal of Information Technology Information Systems and the Financial Crisis and After Special Issue Editors: Chrisanthi Avgerou, Alexandros-Andreas Kyrtsis and Frank Land In various reports and newspaper articles – however only sporadically in academic publications – questions have been raised regarding the relationship between ICT and the 2007-2009 financial crisis and its continuing fallout on the financial markets. The expansion of electronic delivery channels for financial products and services as a consequence of the overbanking of the wealthier societies, the accelerating dependence of public finances on the operations of international computer supported financial networks, the growing importance of derivatives for investment and hedging, the exponential growth of the trading of complex financial instruments in globally interlinked exchanges; algorithmic trading; the break in the traditional link between debtor and lender, the use of electronic platforms for over-the-counter trading; the digitization of clearing, settlement and custody services, are among the developments which have revolutionized the technological landscapes of finance. These developments of the last thirty years have created not only advantages; they have also exposed the financial system to technological and managerial risks on top of the main financial risks. Does this mean that we are justified to blame technology for at least part of the processes......

...(Shaq) is a retired basketball player who played 19 seasons in the NBA, as one of the most dominating centers the world as ever seen. He played for teams such as the, Orlando Magic, Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, Phoenix Suns, Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Boston Celtics. O’Neal was born in Newark, New Jersey on March 6, 1972. O’Neal didn’t achieve success over night, he had to face different obstacles to become one of the greats. Being raised without his biological father, cause of drug addiction and possession. The reason for selecting this individual is because I love the game of basketball. Shaq has been one of my favorite NBA players of all time. I’ve watched Shaq struggle on the court, but never off the court. I’m inspired to write a paper about one of the most dominating centers. One obstacle that Shaq had to face was money. Shaq was drafted by the Orlando Magic in 1992. He spent his first million that he earned within 30 minutes. Like most people, when you get a large sum of money you just want to go out and spend it, just like Shaq did. Not thinking about how to save or your future or if you can impact someone else’s life who may not have food to eat, or nowhere to sleep. Another obstacle Shaq had to face was his Los Angeles teammate Kobe Bryant. “It’s not about how much money you make; the question is are educated enough to keep it? (Shaquille O’Neal)” This individual impacted my life and motivates be to do better by his education. He dropped out of college......

Call/Notice money is an amount borrowed or lent for a very short period. If the period is more than one day and up to 14 days it is called „Notice Money‟, otherwise the amount is called „Call Money‟.
