I chose the occupation of an automotive mechanic which make 46,000 a year or 3,833 a month. The wife that i chose has an occupation as a pharmacist which she makes 95,000 a year and 7,916 a month. The combined total a year for the two of us is 98,700 after taxes are took out. we will have a total of 8,225 a month for bills and spending money. The house that i would like to live in is my reasonable house which is 1,410.16 a month. Finally after the house payment, taxes, and all of the bills we will have 1,278 dollars for spending money such as gas, movies, and other things that you do to have fun. After do this i think my career as an automotive mechanic is a good paying job and i can afford pretty much what I want but I hope my wife is a pharmacists cause that will make everything a lot easier. I am totally fine with the house i have and the the job that i have and of course the wife I have and the money she makes. I really didn’t know that the bills would cost that much and it really makes me think what am I going to do after i get out of high school and how long am i going to live with my mom for 2 years, 4 years or what and how long am I going to go to school for. The biggest question i have is where am I going to work while im going to school to be an auto mechanic and how much am I going to make at that job. This project has really surprised me with the amount of money you spend on bills and also how much money that get took out by taxes it really crazy that that much money that you work for just gets took from you pretty much. I have really learned a lot from this project it has opened my eyes and I now know that it’s going to be a lot harder for me to live than I originally thought at first I thought that i might just live with my parents and then get a job but now I think that I am going to get a small job while I go...

The American Dream

...The American Dream: Alive and Thriving Everybody is entitled to their own dreams and ambitions no matter their race, color, or gender. When the term “American dream” is heard, most people visualize an enormous house with a stunning car and a beautiful family. Others may think more simplistic, like a simple God given right: freedom. Everyone has their own definition of the American dream, but I have a different perspective. I see it as how I want my life to be in the future, and the steps I will take to get there. The American dream is about opportunity, and there are plenty of opportunities in this nation. To pursue a bright future, one must obtain education and acquire a satisfactory job. This nation provides people with exactly what they need, and as knowledge is obtained; changing, growing, learning and becoming the person that we want to be is taking effect. America is a place where the people are nourished and have the freedom to chase their dreams, which clearly means the American dream is still alive. In 2007, the president of Purdue University, Martin C. Jischke delivered a speech to a graduating class concerning the American dream. Jischke explained how difficult it was way back in the day to get an education and become successful. He also went on to explain the Great Depression. During that time there was hardly any money to afford an education, let alone be sent to college. When Jischke had the opportunity, he took it without hesitation and received......

The American Dream

...The concept of American Dream in general can be described as a life of personal happiness and material comfort as traditionally sought by individuals in the U.S. It is a very vague concept as people tend to input their own perceptions. The American Dream can highly be related to my goals and aspirations. I try to name one personal who wouldn’t relate to the American Dream and I found none. But attaining that level of serenity and comfort is a challenge especially at this point of time. In relations to the context of the book “The Great Gatsby” and basing it upon the author’s emotion, this book portrays the 1920’s as an era of decayed social and moral values. The evidence was verified as a part of greed, empty pursuit of pleasure, and attaining the raging peck by overthrowing anyone that stands on the way. Whereas my professional goals and objective are the exact opposite from the context of this book. Yes, I too want to attain the highest possible peak in relations to my field, but I want to earn it being ethical towards my society and surroundings. The word “ethics”, means a lot to me, and upon the current economic and social standpoint, it is hard to afford ethics but we can. This World is a cruel place to live in but then again it’s a challenge for us young personal’s to modify and make this place livable. Probably, we won’t be privileged to enjoy our time of life, but we can make sure to make it a better place and set a stage that can be crucial for the next......

Affluenza

...pursuit of more." In recent years, the U.S. has entered the age of affluenza completely. Therefore, a book which is named after the disease is written to introduce the symptoms, explain the causes of the disease, and provide the treatment to cure affluenza. After taking the self-diagnosis exam from that book, I realize that I am somehow infected by the sickness and I recognize I have symptoms of it. There is a symptom that influenceed my lifestyle indirectly. Although I am not under any stress, but my parents are affected. They work almost 7 days a week, from 8 am to 7 pm, about half of the day. The reason that they keep working is so they always want to buy something extra to our household, such as furnitures which does not fit in the apartment. For instance, I have two computers so there is always a free one for my parents to use. During last Thanksgiving, my mom bought another laptop computer. I was able to count how many times she has used it with my hands. Finally, that laptop computer was given to my cousin who started attending college last year. Currently, my mom is making plans to buy another replacement. The particular issue which affects me the most is my addiction to Internet and video...

Why College Education Is Important to Me?

...self-fulfilment. Although I concur with the aforementioned explanations, I have supplementary reasons I agree that a college education is of high importance to me. First, college education will permit me to afford a better living standards for my family and household. We have survived without what several people consider to be basic. Buying a house, annual holidays, frequent camping expeditions, all-terrain cars and speedboats are all only a fantasy to my family. By attaining a college degree, I can secure my dream profession and begin to make those fantasies an actuality. Second, it will offer motivation to my kids. Not only will the degree provide me with a better position to take part in my children’s classrooms assignments at school, I will similarly be helpful in the life choices they will want to pursue being a role model for them. Attempting to get a college education after marriage with children may also be challenging and may require me to put off those decisions to raise a family. However, currently with the enormously fast progress in technology, attaining an education will be made considerably easy. Patty Murray noted "A good education means learning to read, write and most importantly learn how to learn so that you can be whatever you want to be when you grow up”(Vavrus, 2002). Securing a college degree will assist in eliminating several obstacles and providing me with the opportunities to improve and provide myself with a more prosperous life that I......

Why in College

...Timoria Morgan English Comp 1 Mr. McDonald January 30, 2014 My reasons to be in college are probably just like anyone else. My two main reason for be in college is that I wanted my dream job of becoming a teacher and to get the whole college experience. Since I did not really have that whole high school experience, so this was my chance, to make up for it. A job can be simply defined as a regular activity performed in exchange for payment. I believe that today you have to be extremely gifted at a job in order to be able to stay with it your entire working career. Nowadays many people are thrown from job to job seeking stability in their lives. Almost everyone enters the workforce to try and provide whatever they can for their family. It’s hard to compete in today’s occupations with more and more people striving to get to the top, to be the boss with the newly remodeled home, 2.5 kids, golden retriever, cabin in the mountains, and Mercedes Benz. People feel a great achievement when they have reached the point where they can provide these material things to their families no matter how they do it or what they have to go through to get it, whether it be working long hours or cheating the stock market. Unfortunately it’s the same people who forget who got them to the point where they can afford their Mercedes Benz. I feel that credit should not only be given to family, friends, and pastors, rabbis or priests, but also to teachers. Any school could always use......

...ways in which one was able to overcome the challenges or perhaps failed to address them. This essay involves a self-reflection in one of my most stressful lifetime situation and how I managed to cope up with it. The Stressful Situation Back in high school, my dream was to excel academically so that I could pursue a Business Management degree by getting a scholarship to study at Oxford University. Bearing that in mind, I had to work hard to attain a grade that will enable me to get the scholarship. The reason as to why I always wanted to get the sponsorship is because I was pretty sure that my parents would not afford to pay school fees in any university. I worked extremely hard in my studies, spending sleepless nights, forming discussion groups and sacrificing my social life so that I could have more time to concentrate on my studies. After leaving high school, I was pretty sure that I had done my best to achieve the grade that I always wanted. After the results had been released, I was so shocked to see that I had not attained a grade that would allow me to get the scholarship. It suddenly dawned on me that my life had come to a stop and that my dreams were shattered. I knew that my parents would not afford college school fees due to their low income and the dependence of many family members for basic needs and education. I had dreams of...

Why College Is Important to Me

...important to me is that I want to be a role model for my two daughters. Secondly, furthering my education can mean a many great opportunities for advancing in my career and in life. Leading or setting the example for my daughters is very important to me. By actively portraying to my daughters the importance of having a college education after high school, they will engage into participating in a plethora of new opportunities in their own lives which will enhance their way of living. They see how hard I study and how important my grades are to me that it encourages them to do the same in their high school studies now. They actively partake in my studies now, which in turn, results in them asking me questions on what I am studying. Having them involved is having them engaged in their own thought processes. If I have done that for them then I feel like I am doing my job as a Mother. I encourage them to follow in my footsteps so that they can have a better life for themselves. The second reason college is so important to me is the fact it will change my way of life. Studies show that a college education leads to better paying careers and/or advancements in a career. Having a better paying career will give me the opportunity to pay to further my daughters’ college education. It will allow me to advance in my career now or seek a better paying job if I choose to do so. With a plethora of opportunities, having a college education can only enhance my way of life and......

Buying vs. Renting

...their own dream home, whether they are young or old. Still many Americans choose to rent apartments. Why is this? There are many more pros when individuals decide to buy a home. That is why buying a home is a better option than renting an apartment. Jumping right into the first home one sees is also not the proper way to buy a home. Much time and research needs to be done and many things taken into consideration before deciding the best decision. Do I want to have a landlord, or be the landlord? How much can I afford if I choose to buy a home? Where do I want to be located and what style home am I looking for? Are there any pros and cons to buying verse renting? How much would property taxes be yearly? These are all important questions to take into consideration, and that will be covered in paragraphs to come. First and most important is figuring out how much each individual can afford. On ginniemae.gov there are two calculators that can help to determine individual financial status. The first calculator helps individuals to determine the advantages and considerations of owning verse renting a home (http://www.ginniemae.gov). Using the calculator I have come up with an example. If I were renting a home that cost 800 dollars a month and I wanted to buy a house I found for 100,000 I would simply calculate the percentage of down payment, length of loan, years I plan to stay in the home, yearly property tax rate, and the home value increase rate. For the down payment I put......

Dreams

...Junior English 05/24/10 I Had Too Much to Dream According to the writers of the hit sitcom GLEE, “A dream is something that fills up the emptiness inside. The one thing that you know if it came true, all of the hurt would go away”. If this is the attitude of the population, then we are all destined to disappointment. Dreams do not necessarily make you happier; dreams are something you long for, but who is to say we know what is best for ourselves? We are all biased to our own desires. We all long to do things in our lives, thinking that if we were to achieve our goals then our lives would be “complete”. These goals can be simple and attainable, or they can be dreams of being a rich and famous movie star or athlete. Sometimes what we long for will come true and everything will be as we imagined; sometimes we are given what we want, but when we get it, it does not seem to be enough; other times our dreams will not come true at all. Given the uncertainty of the outcome of our dreams, the thought that “attaining them can only lead to happiness” is a path to destruction. In The Great Gatsby, the mysterious character of Gatsby has become so consumed in pursuing his dream, that he has convinced himself the only way he could ever be happy is to have that dream. This is very sad and immature to me. Gatsby had a wonderful life: a dad that loved him, many people bowing at his feet to be his friend, a huge house, and great amounts of money. Many people would die to have......

... Abstract I am a firm believer that education should be available to anyone who wants to continue their education after High School. But there is one issue that I do have a problem with and that is the state of California offering Financial Aid to “Illegal” undocumented students who have come into the country to better themselves. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think that they should be banned from doing so; I just think there needs to be a line that has to be drawn. During this article I am going to write I will point out some of the drawbacks I see from the “California Dream Act” the way it has affected my family directly and how it has prevented them from continuing their education and get to where they want to be in life. I believe every one is entitled to their opinions on anything that is brought up regardless of what the topic is. Financial Aid for Undocumented Students The “California Dream Act” states “An undocumented high-school graduate or GED recipient would be eligible to adjust to conditional lawful permanent resident (LPR) status if they have been physically present in the United States for at least five years and were younger than 16 when they first entered the country. (Immigration Policy Center, Para 6, 2010) I am all for today’s youth receiving an education and moving forward with their lives, but I have a problem when them receiving their education and continuing their lives gets in the way of my family or even American born......

Othello, World History

...If I was to host a ball, and could invite five leaders I would want to invite Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, Rosa Parks, Abraham Lincoln, Barack Obama, and Patricia Harris. I would choose these five people because they have made a difference in this world and changed it forever and if it was not for them who would know how the world would be now. I know it would be probably way different. I would want to ask them a lot of questions about their life, work and what would they change or do different or why would they not change anything.I choose these people because I know they made a difference when a lot of people thought they were doing something wrong or was crazy for stand up for what they believe in. I would want to meet Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, so I can ask him how it was back in his time and how different it is now. I would also like to thank him for giving us freedom not only my race but all races. He made a big difference all across the world, and without him marching and fighting for rights without violence. He is a major hero, and I look up to him his dream was able to come true so it gives everyone hope that your dream is not impossible, it’s possible. With hard work, and people encouraging you and on your side believing in you. American Dream

...so-called ‘American Dream’ dead, alive or on hold?” He believes that the ideals and values of the American Dream are very much alive even though many people have lost confident in the Great Recession. Under the difficult economic circumstances today, Brandon redefines the American Dream as the potential to work for an honest, secure way of life and save for the future according to the more intense spending habits of Americans. In order to living the American Dream, Brandon lists solutions to three main problems, inequality, economic insecurity and eroded faith in the American Dream. In sum, he believes that though existing, inequality is not a reason for the lost of American Dream in the poor and supporting the top businesses would help the recovery of economy. He also highlights the values and rules of the American Dream, which would help living and inheritance of this spirit. From my perspective, I agree with the main problems he concludes but for some of his solutions, I stand on the opposite site of the author. I think narrowing the income gap is very significant and so do supporting businesses, while the dependence of the spirit itself is in the less important position. Following are my analysis of each argument. According to the article, inequality is regarded as the most worrisome problem by many people. In contrast with economists like Robert Reich and Paul Krugman who believe that the concentration of wealth at the top would not help living the American Dream because......

The American Dream

...The American Dream Give an outline of how the American Dream is interpreted in texts 2, 3 and 4. Text 2: The text is about how foreigners look at the American Dream and their expectations to it. The whole text is built on how Arnold Schwarzenegger experienced the move from Austria to USA and fulfilling the American Dream. How like many other foreigners he came from nothing and moved to the states and then fighting to get his American Dream fulfilled. In the text Schwarzenegger puts the emphasis on foreigners to work hard to fulfill their American Dream. They should not just accept the handouts but work hard to be greater and help the American society to be greater. Text 3: This text tells us a different version of the American Dream. It emphasizes more on the social side of things. The writer describes how more and more people are getting demoralized and more pessimistic than ever seen in the last half-century. People cannot afford family life if they also think about money. The young people in society have completed some surveys, in which one found out that they want more time with their families. The writer predicts that “even more young people are going to choose - or be pushed into - a smaller-scale, downshifted lifestyle where they make do with less stuff and trade more money for more time”. Then the writer comments on how the American Dream is changing from being materialistic to being more focused on social life. The writer also says “but it’s more sustainable...
