After reading the article, Can We Talk? The researcher talks about the role of communication in marriages, my husband and I cannot relate with Nara Schoenberg understands of self-disclosure in relationships. We both have been together for 18 years and married 8 years. Almost, 15 years ago we both decided to take our oldest special needed grandson into our home and raise him as our own. We both did not really know what we were getting ourselves into, but we knew someone had to take care of him. We find out he is a child that has fetal alcohol syndrome. We both have dedicated our lives to our child needs. We both put our needs on the back burner at times. Even though my husband is 60 year old and I am 51 year old we both feel his needs come before ours.
I believe the greatest gift I can conceive of having from anyone is to be seen by them, to be understood and touched by them. The greatest gift I can give is to see, hear, and understand and to touch another person. When this is done I feel contact has been made. Virginia Satir (1976) American author and psychotherapist (1916 – 1988) (Sole, 2011, page 145, chapter 7). According to Can We Talk, the researcher says most men need affective affirmation more than women do. I disagree with this because my husband and I love to telling each other that we love each other and to show each other how we feel. We also show our little one how we feel about him. We both feel that if we can show him affective affirmation and tell him how we feel about our feelings he will be able to do the same when he gets older. As I said earlier, we live around his needs right now because he is our future. Some people might think we are crazy for how we feel. When my husband and I decided to take and raise him as our own, we have had to change our way of life. Schoenberg, N. (2011, Jan 17). Can we talk? ...Can We Talk Tanya Lynn Vilano Interpersonal Communication Professor Steven Fritzenkotter June 3, 2012 Can We Talk After reading the article on “Can we talk? Researcher talks about the role of communication in marriages”. The author does deliver enough material on self-disclosure in relationships. Self-disclosure is when you share personal thoughts and information with someone you are in a relationship with. The author states “In 1987, a review in the Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy found that higher rates of self-disclosure were tied with higher rates of marital satisfaction. Expression of love and support was also linked to happy marriages” (Schoenberg, 2011). When you are in a marriage you are looking for happiness from your partner. Self-disclosure brings reinforcement because it lets you be who you are and the same time improves your relationship and when someone you are in a relationship accepts what you tell them about you can help build your bond with one another. The first serious relationship I had, I chose to discuss the most intimate points of my life, because I thought it would bring us closer to one another. I told him about how my Dad disowned me after I got pregnant as a teenager and how it affected me inside it hurt me deeply. This time in my life affected me with my relationships with people, it made it tough for me to open up and trust anyone. It was difficult for me for me to open up to him because I did not share my personal affairs with people...

...Can We Talk? Researcher Talks about the Role of Communication in Happy Marriages,” Marjae Corbett Com 200 Instructor Stephanie May March 14, 2014 Communication is a vital part of marriage. Knowing your spouse is imperative in having a strong marriage. Communication is an essential key in making connections with your partner. After reading the article “Can We Talk? Researcher Talks about the Role of Communication in Marriages”, I would have to agree with what Nara Schoenberg had to say on the matter of message in marriages. I’m not married but my partner and I have a magnificent relationship. We really know each other like the back of our hand. This was formed on how fit are communication is with each other. We have been together for two years, and we still have a heart-to-heart conversation about everything. Both of us have a lot in common; we love talking about our similarities and even the differences we may have. We also converse about our viewpoint on the upcoming, goals, moods, and any other unpremeditated topic we may come across during our discussions. If we were not able to connect the way we do with communication, I honestly believe our connection would not be as solid. While reading this article the author has faith that couples that share at least 10 minutes of impassive communication on a daily basis will have a long-lasting relationship. From my own knowledge, she seems to be correct. This article also points out a lot of inspiring things about communication in...

...CAN WE TALK? The Role of Communication in Marriages Married couples in matrimony for several decades may lack communication. A couple married for 50 years having a sit down dinner will speak for only a few minutes out of an hour long sitting, researchers have show communication of happy marriages which consists of sharing intimate thoughts, uncertainties, distrust. When we observe a couple in a restaurant or another public setting. In 1987, a review in the Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy established elevated rates of self-disclosure were coupled with advanced rates of couple satisfaction. Appearance of love and sustainability was also associated to contented marriages. "Many couples think they're communicating with each other" when they sort out who will pick up the kids, pay the bills or call the grandparents, says Orbuch. But that's not the kind of communication she's talking about."In the (research) literature, as well as for my couples, communication means you're sharing and really getting to know one another," Orbuch says. (NARA SCHOENBER. Houston Chronicle. Houston, Tex.: Feb 5, 2011. pg. 7.) In research literature couple should communicatively share and get to know each other. When a couple set aside just ten minutes a day, which is recognized as the ten minute rule per Orbuch, is to cultivate effective...

...I can relate very well with the article on self-disclosure in a relationship. When I meet people for the first time I tend to open up about myself and what I want them to know right off. I will disclose what type of person I am which is down to earth and will be upfront with you about anything. I will let a person know how I feel about a situation and that I will not sugar coat the issue that I am dealing with. I also let them know that I am not a moody person, what they see is what they get each day. Being in a relationship I think it is very important to be self-disclosed because that is how people learn about each other’s. I also believe that some things you do not share and leave in the past especially if it’s not healthy for the future relationship. If the person wants a satisfaction relationship, self-disclosure has to in the picture. When you are in a relationship there are some things that you will not like the same, such as food, agree with the same movie to watch and no two people are alike. What may get on my nerves may not get on the other’s person nerve that is why self-disclosure is very important you get to know some of theirs likes and dislikes. The gender difference is so true when communicating. I can talk to my son and it seems like his mind is somewhere else and I have to say look at me when I am talking to you. On the other hand when I am talking to my daughter she looks at me the whole time I am talking to let me know she is listening to me. The similarities...

Personal Narrative: Or We Can Make Dogs Talk

...It was a normal middle school day for me and Jake. The bell rang and we all packed up to go to lunch. As everyone walks into the cafeteria me and Jake walk to the soccer field. Our lunches are made ourselves so we just go to the soccer field where no one will bother us. Whenever we play our games in the lunchroom people walk by calling us nerds. I slipped on something in the grass, it turned out to be a phone that was glowing. On the screen it read “Enter Command” so I entered “Give me a pizza.” Out of nowhere a pizza box appeared. “Do you understand what this mean Cloud?” Jake asked with excitement in his voice “We can make dogs talk?” “No we can solve so many problems and do stuff for the world.” “Or we can make dogs talk.” We then...

...my kids were sitting at CTech airport one night. it was about midnight and we were waiting for our bags and waiting and waiting and I finally tweeted to Alaska Air because I know that they always respond to stuff online. I figured I'd hear in the morning. And I said I know you have a deal where if our bag takes longer than 20 minutes we get something cool what do we get because we've been here for way longer? Within two minutes, at midnight, someone from Alaska Air responded, and apologized, and explained what it was. And explained how I can go get it. Now as it turned out, this delay was not their fault, but you better believe that they made me into a real fan. Alaska Air really became, not only significant to me. But also just someone that I will go out and deliberately spread the word. So I became on of their group of the weird. And that's probably why when you go look on Facebook, Alaska Airlines whose you know a relatively small airline compared to some of the giants like United has 218,000 fans when most other airlines, the most popular pages they have. Are the ones with people complaining about them, so just keep that in mind. You can search actively for things to respond to. So you can take a look on Google, you can do a search and just change it so you're looking at the past 24 hours, that's what I'm doing in the slide here. And just search for your brand and see what people have said. You can use tools like Sprout Social.Which will let you do searches on your brand across multiple...

Raising My Children

...nothing but the best for them or to the children who push everything they want? It is a question that can be answered only when the right time comes. I am only thirty-two years old and already a mother to four kids. All of them are girls. I was only seventeen when I gave birth to my eldest Bernadette whom we fondly called Badette. She is now fourteen years old and in third year high school. I remember when she was still a baby, she was always sick. She got asthma when she was just eight months old. I barely had knowledge about taking care of a baby, a sick child for that matter, since I was very young then. It was hard for me those days. She never outgrew it but it rarely attacks now. During her childhood, taking care of her was easier. She was a very courteous girl and until now she is. She barely answers without “po” or “opo”. Until she was in grade school, I seldom encountered difficulty raising her. It was only when she entered high school that I started having a hard time coping with her. We always compromise on problems regarding her failing grades. But it happens only during the first grading period, she always makes up and never has a red after the first one. We always talk about the importance of education and that she should not disregard it for it is the only treasure that we can give her. She must set a good example for her younger sisters and if she would not obey us we might as well not send her to a private school. This is our compromising agreement. Talking about...

...as the fact that, I actually get to spend 9 hours with people I actually want to be around, how kiff is that? Not bragging or anything, but our school is way better than any mainstream school. Diana’s homeschooling academy has not only given me a sense of responsibility and independence in a way, but it’s also given me hope. A hope that one day I’ll be able to achieve great things, things that I would have never been able to discover in any other environment. This school has also given me the opportunity to start finding myself, the true me, not the me that teachers, students, parents (no offence mom and dad) have wanted me to be. This classroom. Damn where to start. This classroom has been an absolute privilege and blessing that we can only thank two people for, God and one of my greatest inspirations, Gerry. Going from a dark, cold garage to a small corner to this, has been a huge transformation, it has given it an even...

...organization to it. What was faced in the last days... by last days I mean the last days of civilization not life; itself. What was faced was hell. Everyone went ape shit insane. Everyone was killing and raping each other into oblivion, because we were under attack by creatures that was so beyond our understanding! Geez, there were many names given to these undead. Some called them demons, others called them lost souls. With all these names, I found only one that was truly worthy; Zombies. It was a simple word. At the same time it was the most complicated word to enter any human language. I mean just think about it... You say that word to anyone before the outbreak and what would they think of? They would, think of those horror movies or comic books where, for no reason what so ever, zombies appear all around the globe in an instance. That's not how it happened for us. There were signs for over two months. It's just that no one took the time to put the pieces together. I kind of did. I knew there was something more than what we were told about the riots and outbreaks, but I never even thought of the possibility that zombies were the cause of all our troubles. We were all caught off guard. You know, I never did believe that humanity deserved this. We have done... a great deal of horrible things to our own specie, our brothers and sisters....

...Progress Report – Ben and Jerry’s Analysis Although we did not officially start our analysis, we have already distributed various tasks among the group members and established the deadlines so we don’t miss anything. The first thing that we will do in terms of analysis is to write down a brief description of Ben and Jerry’s current CSR practices. However, before that, we need to take a closer look to see whether the current practices of Ben and Jerry’s Portugal fit into the company’s global corporate strategy. In order to take that closer look, we sent an email to Ben and Jerry’s manager in Portugal so that, if possible, we could schedule a meeting to obtain more information about their CSR program, in special to be more specific than the website. This information will be extremely important not only to the description and the analysis, but also to give us a general overview of the problem. By now, we are waiting for an answer from their manger and we hope to have it by Wednesday the latest. We would also request a meeting with their marketing director to have more specific and actual insights. Data Collecting Additionally, we decided to modify our survey pool so that we do not have biased information, so our pool will not be only formed by college students, instead, we will diversify it by handing out surveys to a wider segment ranging from 15 to 35 years old, men and women, customers and non-customers of B&J. This change will allow us to have a more realistic sample...

Delivery Issues to Canada Due to Paperwork with Customs

...Delivery issues to Canada due to paperwork with customs Team, as you know, we are having a grand opening for our new market in Canada, however, there are some issues we’re having with the shipment and delivery of items that are being delayed due to paperwork issues we’re having with customs. Since the grand opening is right around the corner, it’s imperative that all team members pull together to address these issues as soon as possible or this could cause many problems for us in this new market. It’s also just as important for the team to come up with ways that will afford us the ability to resolve these issues immediately so that we can continue to do business in this market. As the team leader, my main goal is to minimize the process of completing paperwork as much as possible as well as minimize the long amount of delivery time of our items. Since this is a new venture for us in this market, we all know how important it is for us to be able to deliver the items to our customers as scheduled and ahead of schedule, not behind schedule. With us being held up with the processing of more and more paperwork with customs, this could make it extremely different for us to thrive in this market and be able to attract new and additional customers as well as keep the ones we already have. I think in order for us to get ahead and/or resolve the issues we’re having we need to arrange a meeting as soon as possible so that we are able to put our heads together and come up with some good ideas...
