Ban Candy and Soda Now

Based on the article,”Should Candy and Soda be Banned from Schools?” by Tom Vilsack and J.Justin Wilson, makes me think that giving student access to eat and drink soda in campus will not only hurt the way students need to eat but it will also hurt our environment. Many students love to eat candy and drink soda but if we take action by banning candy and soda the environment would not look messy by the rappers.Take action now because later when students get comfortable with bringing candy and soda, there are going to be students selling the items to other students.Letting the students eat candy and soda is practically saying that the school and administration don’t care about your weight. It's like saying if the government …show more content…
According to Tom Vilsack, one out of three americans are obese.Does the government even care about us or do they only focus on the republic things? To me it’s saying that government cares more about paperwork than having many people across the community that are suffering from obesity.Almost always the person that has obesity want to start a healthier life and regrets eating all the food they ate. When i think about letting students eat candy and soda,i think of students getting cavities.

I believe that the school's job is to provide healthy food for the students and can not bring candy or soda. How would you know if students are keeping drugs in that item or if students are bringing somethign they are not suppose to?Children want to have a happy life and be

Ip Chapter 2

...CHAPTER II REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND RELATED STUDIES Related Literature Adhesive is any substance that is capable of holding materials together in a functional manner by surface attachment that resists separation. “Adhesive” as a general term includes cement, mucilage, glue, and paste—terms that are often used interchangeably for any organic material that forms an adhesive bond. Inorganic substances such as portland cement also can be considered adhesives, in the sense that they hold objects such as bricks and beams together through surface attachment, but this article is limited to a discussion of organic adhesives, both natural and synthetic. (http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/5823/adhesive) Fish glue is often made by heating the skin or bones of fish in water. It can also be made from part of the fish’s air bladder which, in the case of glue made from sturgeon, is called isinglass. Adhesives made from fish, as well as hide glue made from other animals, were sometimes used in ancient Egypt. They are still used in art, for shoe and furniture repair, and to preserve old manuscripts. Hide glue is typically manufactured from the skin of non-oily fish. During medieval times in Europe, fish glue was often used to repair animal-based sheets called parchments, which were used for writing. It was also used in painting materials by some artists in China. Paintings and drawings were often coating with fish glue in the 1800s. While the glue by itself is typically brittle...

Childhood Obesity in Brazil and Usa

...Childhood Obesity: How Brazil and the United States are Preventing it in Schools Willian Lessa Ribeiro American English and Culture Program Arizona State University July 2014 This paper analyzes and compares the Scholar Feeding Programs which aim to prevent childhood obesity in the United States, and in Brazil. By comparing their two different programs, it’s possible to identify some of the causes of the recent changes in the epidemiological profile of the children. The study include comparison between policies for nutritional education, food sales and diseases prevention. For this research it was used data comparison as research strategy. This data was collected from the Brazilian Ministry of Health and the American Centro for Diseases Control (CDC). Currently, research shows that an epidemiological change is happening in the nutritional status of the population. Previously malnutrition was predominant, now obesity is taking its place. There are several factors leading to these changes, like inadequate food intake with the predominance of snacks and junk food. However, the most important factor is the changes in the feeding in the first five years of age, which strongly influence if someone will or will not become an obese adult. Ensuring that children receive adequate nutrition, Brazil and the United States established rules in the case of school meals. Forming healthy dietary practices through actions of nutritional education contributes to educational development...

Obesity in Children

...English 101 Composition The Greatest Health Risk for America’s Children Christine Webb School of Graduate and Professional Studies Washington Adventist University, Takoma Park Maryland 04/10/2015 Childhood obesity is an important issue because of the staggering proportions that this disease has reached in the past few years. Certain genetic factors paired with changing lifestyles and culture has produced children (and adults) who are generally not as healthy as people were just a few decades ago. Widespread obesity has been the extreme result of these changes. The best wellbeing danger confronting youngsters today is not a horrible infection, for example, Ebola, or an unimaginable injury, for example, misuse; it is weight, which is characterized by the restorative group as the gathering of muscle to fat quotients levels over a quarter century in young men and thirty two percent in young ladies. The equation for keeping up solid weight has never showed signs of change — offset the quantity of calories you expend with the number you blaze. A more noteworthy bit of Americans are not able to adjust the mathematical statement. The levels of youth weight have ascended in the previous decades; in the blink of an eye a quarter century of American children are fat with 80 percent of this gathering bound to wind up stout grown-ups (Del Marco, 2014).The developing sympathy toward heftiness as a general wellbeing sympathy toward youngsters and grown-ups has prompted a...

...Preston McAfee Prepared by: Valentin Angelkov Tray Black Angie Green Jerry James Erin Lutz April 30, 2003 Introduction The following paper analyzes how PepsiCo can increase profitability in the carbonated soft drink (CSD) industry. The industry is a tight oligopoly with Pepsi and its chief competitor, Coca Cola, comprising 70% of the total market. 1 Global beverage sales for PepsiCo in 2000 were $7.6 billion; however, sales growth has averaged only three to four percent in mature markets such as North America2. PepsiCo and Coke have expanded into other ready to drink beverages such as bottled water, tea, and juices in order to counter this low growth in the CSD industry; for the purpose of this paper, however, we will focus on how to affect profitability in the CSD industry. In particular, the paper will examine how current actions by PepsiCo regarding differentiation, pricing, cooperation, and complements have affected their profitability in the CSD industry. Furthermore, the paper will give specific recommendations, with an emphasis on cooperation tactics and complements. Industry Overview The industry for carbonated soft drinks is characterized by the following five forces: Threat of New Entrants – Currently, the biggest threat of entry faced by the majors is from private label manufacturers such as Cott Corporation. Private labels now hold an 8.1% share in the CSD market, the majority of which is held by Cott. The challenge to both Coke and Pepsi is to further build...

Obesity In The San Joaquin Valley

...Childhood Obesity in the San Joaquin Valley Obesity as a whole is a major cause of disease and health risks, including death, in America. As a nation we need to work together to solve this epidemic. It is important to begin shifting our focus on childhood obesity, which is now considered an epidemic in the United States. It is affecting many children, causing high blood pressure, diabetes and death all of which can be prevented (Salbe, A.D., Weyer, C., Lindsay, R.S., Ravussin, E., & Tataranni, P. (2002). There is past research that has been done on childhood obesity and proves that it can have significant ramifications on children's cognitive development. One in three kids in the United States is overweight or obese. The question that I am...

...I would ask for a burger without a bun. There are a lot of mouth breathers in the fast food industry, and asking some of these people for this simple request was just too much for them to comprehend. My mom lost over 100 pounds in less than a year, when combined the diet with water aerobics. Because there was way less sugary and carb rich foods in the house I lost a lot of weight also. Looking back at pictures of that time both my mom and I never looked better. About 10 years ago I fell in love with a girl who barely knew I existed and decided that I would win her heart by losing weight (unlike the previous admission, I can’t use being a teenager as an excuse.) I started the diet without reading anything or doing any kind of research besides a 5 minute conversation with my mom on how the diet works. This was in 2003 I believe and it...

Also my works cited page was messed up, I couldn’t find all the information to create the citations but I did my best and I believe I did them right. Transitions were a big issue in my paper, from going to one paragraph topic to another. I went back and tried to make them connect to one another, they seem to all flow together but may still be a little rough. I believe this paper is an “A” or at least a “B” paper. I have a clear focus, and valid points with sufficient information to support my reasoning’s. The topic I chose is relatable to basically everyone which makes it more intriguing and easy to read. I went back though my paper and fixed all or most of my mistakes and followed the rubric instructions. I have lots of naysayers and used a lot of what we have learned in the “They Say I Say” book. I stay on topic throughout my paper about portion sizes, and the consequences it has on our bodies. Also, I fixed my transitions and in text citations in my paper which was a key factor in this paper. The Ugly Truth Are portion sizes...

Childhood Obesity

...growing disease. Description of Childhood Obesity Childhood Obesity is defined as children having the condition of being excessively overweight (The American Heritage, 2002). The Centers for Disease Control reports that this country has been struggling with obesity for well over 20 years now and regarding childhood obesity, it is no less daunting.  Data from their surveys comparing the 1970's to the 2000's  show that the prevalence of obesity has increased for children of all ages at least 3 times over to about 20% of our population less than 19 years old (adult obesity approaches almost 35% in some states).  There is an eye-opening depiction of U.S. obesity trends by state and race/ethnicity over the past 4 years.  Obesity appears to be most commonly seen in the African American, Hispanic, and Native American populations and in lower income families (CDC, 2009). Why this Topic This topic was chosen because there is an overwhelming increase of children who are suffering from this disease. Obese children are also more likely to become overweight adults. 70% of obese children had at least one Cardiovascular Disease risk factor, and 39% had two or more (Freedman, 2007). This paper will show why childhood obesity has become such an epidemic and what can be done to counter this disease. Description of Childhood Obesity Childhood obesity is a serious medical condition that affects children and adolescents in America. It occurs when a child is well above the normal...

...University of Southern California Marshall School of Business BUAD 307 Lars Perner, Ph.D., Instructor Marketing Fundamentals Fall, 2010 SUMMARY OF CLASSROOM MATERIAL INTEGRATED MARKETING COMMUNICATION AND PROMOTION BACKGROUND Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC) involves the idea that a firm’s promotional efforts should be coordinated to achieve the best combined effects of the firm’s efforts. Resources are allocated to achieve those outcomes that the firm values the most. Promotion involves a number of tools we can use to increase demand for our The most well known component of promotion is advertising, but we can also use tools such as the following:  Public relations (the firm’s staff provides information to the media in the hopes of getting coverage). This strategy has benefits (it is often less expensive and media coverage is usually more credible than advertising) but it also entails a risk in that we can’t control what the media will say. Note that this is particularly a useful tool for small and growing businesses— especially those that make a product which is inherently interesting to the audience. Trade promotion. Here, the firm offers retailers and wholesalers temporary discounts, which may or may not be passed on to the consumer, to stimulate sales. Sales promotion. Mentally Ill

...Helpful Program for Mentally Ill Patients Carlethia Gordon HCA 430 Special Populations Instructor: Jeanatte Maxey September 30, 2013 This paper is to analyze the vulnerable population of mental illness. In my community there are a lot of mental ill people. There are facilities that try to help but there needs to facilities that make patients feel at home while in their care. It is my duty to build that type of program. It would be much similar to some that already exist but it will be something more special about this program that makes it stand out. The further you read you will see how this will take place. Now most facilities or institutes do not provide love they just provide medication and care. In my program there will be equal attention to all patients and then there won’t be just giving out medication there will be counseling sessions available also. The program will be for 24hours a day. The staff that I encounter will be fully trained. As the Red Cross provides me with an outline of what is taking place in my community it boost my motivation up to lend my helping hand of those who need more and better special care (Donley & Wright, 2012). This program is for anyone that is mentally ill but mostly for those are abandoned by love ones because they are different and don’t have any time to understand their problems so they are put on the streets. Statistics show that patients are stretching worldwide from classification...

Childhood Obesity

...The increase in obesity has occurred since 1976-1980. “Among preschool children aged 2-5, obesity increased from 5.0% to 10.4% between 1976-1980 and 2007-2008 and from 6.5% to 19.6% among those aged 6-11. Among adolescents aged 12-19, obesity increased from 5.0% to 18.1% during the same period” (Ogden, Cynthia, Ph.D., and Carroll, Margaret, MSPH, Division of Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys, Prevalence of Obesity Among Children and Adolescents: United States, Trends 1963-1965 Through 2007-2008, cdc.gov 2010). Being overweight as a child will result in health concerns that carry over into adulthood. We all know that it is important to eat healthy well-balanced meals that provide the vitamins and minerals needed for our bodies. This paper will argue that childhood obesity does not revolve around fast food restaurants, but the responsibility of the child’s parents to initiate healthy eating habits and regular exercise. There are many causes of obesity that range from genetic, biological, behavioral, and cultural factors. Obesity happens when you consume more calories than your body can burn up. “If one of the parents is overweight there is a 50 percent chance that their children will be obese. However, when both parents are obese there is an 80 percent chance that their children will be obese.” (Facts for Families, Obesity in...
