Capital Punishment Capitol punishment is Murder. It is wrong in so many ways. Capital punishment is when a person is sentenced to death because of a crime. It has been around for years. It has always been a controversial thing. In the novel A Lesson before Dying by Ernest Gaines, the main character, Jefferson, is sentenced to death after being accused of murdering a store owner, but in reality he is innocent. Capital punishment should be abolished because it is unconstitutional, it sends out the wrong message, and it is a waste of money. Capitol punishment is unconstitutional. The death penalty violates an amendment in the U.S constitution. In the article should the death penalty be banned as a form of punishment by Joe Messerli, he states “The 8th amendment of the U.S constitution prevents the use of “cruel and unusual punishment”.(Messerli) Many would interpret the death penalty as a violating this restriction”. This evidence shows how the death penalty is unconstitutional. The death penalty really does violate the 8th amendment. It is like a mother telling her kid that they are not allowed to eat candy at night, while she is eating candy at night. It is an ironic thing. Another thing Messerli states in his article is “It’s barbaric to allow state-sanctioned murder before a crowd of people”. (Messerli)This statement is very true, capital punishment makes the United States seem barbaric. Capital punishment goes against the constitution and makes the U.S seem barbaric, also it sends out the wrong message. Aside from being unconstitutional, it also sends out the wrong message. Killing people to show killing is wrong makes no sense at all. There are other forms of punishment that do not require the criminal to die. In the article should the death penalty be banned as a form of punishment by Joe Messerli, he states,

...Marc HIS 202 Powley Capital Punishment The death penalty is viewed one of two ways. Either you oppose it or you agree with it. Over the years there have been studies done to try and justify or discredit the actions surrounding the death penalty. Whether you agree or disprove the punishment doesn’t make it right or wrong. The process of capital punishment has been around a very long time. Through the years societies have put their own twists and added their personal variations to the concept. While the death penalty will never lose its ability to start a great debate, who is right and who is wrong? One thing stand the same, whichever side you’re on, you picked that side for a reason and that’s what you believe in, no matter what anyone else says. Well the church is the same way, they have a viewpoint and have taken a stand as well. During this paper we examine the ideas and thoughts of the church as a whole, and how they feel about the death penalty and how it is used in our society. Throughout history, one of the most influential institutions in society has been the church. No matter the demographic location, the religious influence can been seen in almost every aspect of the culture in that area. One reason why religion is so influential is that religion gives a moral foundation for behaviors. Morals are believed to be from a higher power, mainly from God. So when one debates the issues dealing with behaviors, and the laws that govern those behaviors, religion ends...

...criticizing Muslims but that doesn’t end as capital punishment exist in most western countries like USA and UK.  -shouldn’t we think of the families that are broken apart now because of the merciless acts of these criminals? Body  Incapacitation of the criminal. Capital punishment permanently removes the worst criminals from society and should prove much cheaper and safer for the rest of us than long term or permanent incarceration. It is self evident that dead criminals cannot commit any further crimes, either within prison or after escaping or being released from it.  Some criminals are beyond rehabilitation; it may be that capital punishment should be reserved for serial killers, terrorists, murderers of policemen and so on. There is evidence that Major religions also support death penalty as a principle depending on circumstances.  Costly. Money is not an inexhaustible commodity and the state may very well better spend our (limited) resources on the old, the young and the sick etc., rather than on the long term imprisonment of murderers, rapists, etc. key advantage of the death penalty over life imprisonment: it saves tax-payers the huge cost of keeping murderers locked up.  Why should the taxpayer bear the cost of supporting a murderer for an entire lifetime? Huge opportunity cost shows that such money could be used much beneficial way to the society.  Retribution. Execution is a very real punishment rather than some form of "rehabilitative" treatment...

...Capital Punishment 1 Capital Punishment Ronnie C. Smith Running head Capital Punishment 2 Capital Punishment otherwise known as the ‘death penalty’ is the punishment given by governments for an individual who is found guilty of committing a serious offense or crime. Without even a hesitation, executions are well though-out definitive punishment for any offense or felony, because there is no revoke from bereavement. The rational option for capital punishment is living in jail without even parole; a number of states still use capital punishment. The reason behind this is the dispute whether capital punishment is right and permissible is still widely unclear (Phil for Humanity, 2006). Nowadays, one of the most discussed concerns in the Criminal Justice System is none other than capital punishment or otherwise called the death penalty. Capital punishment was legal until 1972, when the Supreme Court declared it unconstitutional in Furman v. Georgia stating that it violated the Eight and Fourteen Amendment citing cruel and unusual punishment. However, in 1976, the Supreme Court reversed itself with Gregg v. Georgia and reinstated the death penalty, but not all states have the death penalty (Prodeath.com. 2001). There are always two sides of the coin and so is the case with Capital Punishment. There are people who favor it and there are people who are against it. The first stance. Many people who are against Capital punishment feel...

...Kandis Clark CJAD 101 F Dr. J Dropbox Assignment Capital Punishment Two wrongs do not make a right. That is what I believe when it comes to capital punishment.Though it is not right for a human to kill another human, it doesn't make it any better if the governmental system goes around killing criminals as well. I don't agree with capital punishment, and that a criminal would suffer more by being kept alive; serving a life sentence in prison. Capital punishment has it's flaws and doesn't do anything better for the society. The government system can make mistakes while investigating a criminal, in turn, the inmate would be convicted to death row by error. In 1995, the state of Missouri executed Larry Griffin for allegedly murdering a man in a drive-by shooting. ("Executed") Griffin maintained his innocence until his death, and in 2007 the St. Louis Circuit Attorney found that Griffin was guilty, due to a false witness testimony. It goes to show that many people sit on death row waiting to get executed are in all actuality guilty of their crime. You can keep a killer off the streets without executing them, by giving them life without parole. It won't be easy for the criminal, for he will be thinking about how he will spend the rest of his life locked up, knowing he will never get out. According to an issue in the ACLU of Northern California, letting a person die while serving a sentence of life without parole, is 3x cheaper and also protects any mistakes of sentencing...

If a pack of wild dogs were to appear at this moment, the odds of scaling a tree before they attacked are not in my favor. I should get up, move around, and work the stiffness from my limbs. But instead I sit, as motionless as the rock beneath me, while the dawn begins to lighten the woods. I can't fight the sun. I can only watch helplessly as it drags me into a day that I've been dreading for months. By noon they will all be at my new house in the Victor's Village. The reporters, the camera crews, even Effie Trinket, my old escort, will have made their way to District 12 from the Capitol. I wonder if Effie will still be wearing that silly pink wig, or if she'll be sporting some other unnatural color especially for the Victory Tour. There will be others waiting, too. A staff to cater to my every need on the long train trip. A prep team to beautify me for public appearances. My stylist and friend, Cinna, who designed the gorgeous outfits that first made the audience take notice of me in the Hunger Games. If it were up to me, I would try to forget the Hunger Games entirely. Never speak of them. Pretend they were nothing but a bad dream. But the Victory Tour makes that impossible. ...FOR BLYTHE Acknowledgments My profound thanks to three dear friends with whom I have the great luxury of working: my editor, Jason Kaufman; my agent, Heide Lange; and my counselor, Michael Rudell. In addition, I would like to express my immense gratitude to Doubleday, to my publishers around the world, and, of course, to my readers. This novel could not have been written without the generous assistance of countless individuals who shared their knowledge and expertise. To all of you, I extend my deep appreciation. To live in the world without becoming aware of the meaning of the world is like wandering about in a great library without touching the books. Disaster Preparedness

...With the technological advancements and progress, the force of disasters is also changing. When they occur they surpass all preparedness and eagerness of society and pose bigger challenge to them. This is quite true in case of both developed and developing countries That’s because, in a disaster, it’s critical that people and response teams have the ability to analyze the huge amounts of data generated in the midst of the disaster and its immediate aftermath. Rapid analyzing can help produce customized warnings for communities, particularly with the ubiquity of mobile phones, their apps and social media platforms. The thing about a disaster of this scale is that the government is often in shambles. This happened so close to the capitol that what sections of the government are left functioning are going to be completely overloaded. Any...

Flight 93 and Utilitarianism in Times of Crisis

...with the suspected intention of crashing the aircraft into the United States Capitol. The hijackers never reached their destination because they were overtaken by the 40 passengers on board the flight and forced to crash the aircraft into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, killing all 44 people on board. Consider the possibility that this version of Flight 93's journey were inaccurate. Imagine that the United States military had shot down Flight 93 rather than the passengers ultimately forcing the aircraft off of its intended path. Would the intentional sacrifice of American lives be acceptable considering a higher number of American lives may have been saved? The possibility of our own military intentionally taking the lives of innocent Americans is a horrific notion but, so is the thought of our military standing idly by while a large number of American lives are taken by terrorists. I feel that most moral dilemmas should be solved consequentially and also that this theory is exemplified in the case of Flight 93. It goes without saying killing innocent people is wrong. It is also wrong to do nothing when there is a possibility lives can be saved. In the case of Flight 93, the preceding events provided insight into the intentions of the hijackers. The earlier attacks and the flight path of the plane made it easier to project that the hijackers intended to crash the aircraft into the capitol. Possessing this knowledge allows us to realize the possibility that many more...
