I always knew I was a creature of habit and that I was somewhat intimidated by change but that was the extent of my thoughts when it came to how I dealt with change. However, this test gave me an entirely different perspective on me as a whole regarding change. How I handle change and what my shortcomings are in regards to change was quite a surprise. The areas in which I would have presumed to have scored high I actually scored extremely low and the areas in which I would have believed myself to be lacking in, I actually scored high. My change readiness traits that seem to be highly developed and in which I scored optimal levels are the following: adventurous, resourceful and adaptability. The areas that are not as developed to say the least are: optimism, passion/drive and confidence. When it came to tolerance of ambiguity my score was average, not optimal but not substandard either. In healthcare as in any business it is important to develop all traits. The fact that I am not afraid of change or taking risk is a great attribute because healthcare is constantly changing and there are times in which you must be willing to take a leap of faith. Whether it’s implementing new systems, revamping existing protocols or just changing with the times, change is inevitable. However, I do realize the importance of being confident, optimistic and having passion and drive. I will need to work on strengthening these specific traits. However, I believe that confidence is something I will automatically develop over time. The more successes I have, the more I learn and the more experience I obtain the more confident I will become in my choices and decisions. Passion and drive is what I am currently working on. Although, I don’t currently work in the job of my dreams, I am consistently working towards my ideal job. My passion and drive at this time is to get the job I truly desire. Once there my passion and drive will be to do what’s best for all involved such as the patients, staff and the organization as a whole.
