Is the heart really a lonely hunter? Well according to the novel “The Heart is a Lonely Hunter” by Carson McCullers people are always struggling through the feelings of loneliness and that life is difficult and not always happy. The book portrays the life of 5 characters that deal with everyday problems, such as money and loneliness. The characters are all in separate situations that lead them to face their problems differently. Mick and Singer, two of the main characters, struggle with the same feelings of loneliness and the difficulty in creating strong relationships with others, but they have different financial situations and deal with their emotions diversely. Mick chooses to just continue and work through the loneliness. She began working and now doesn’t have time for music. Her life is unfair but she pushes through and helps her family out. She copes with her issues and understands that she has to keep going for her family. “She was always tired. At home she just ate supper and slept and then ate breakfast and went off to the store again”(353), this shows that life goes on and it might now get better but persevere. Singer on the other couldn’t take it anymore and “he put a bullet in his chest”(326). Once Antonapoulos died Singer felt that there was no point in his life because he has no one that understands him. He felt that his life was unbearable and that it was better to end it. This shows the difference in their circumstances Mick has a family which gives her a lot to lose while Singer has no one left and it gives him no reason to live. Both characters, Mick and Singer, play significant roles in the novel. Their circumstances and how they endure their problems come to support the title of the book. Mick shows that life is not always fair but you have to push through, while Singer shows that even if someone appears alright they are not always doing fine. Both characters show that loneliness can kill a person and that everyone is always looking for a person who will be there to support them. Their lives are portrayed realistically and it comes to show that life is full of struggles and the feeling of
