The Amazing Game It was a chilly Saturday morning when the bus rolled to a stop in Carterville. The Wildcats were 6-2 and were led by coach Bill Schneider. Their opponents, the carterville chiefs were 7-1 on the season on were on a hot streak with 3 wins and 2 shutouts. The high school players walked off the bus and strolled into the locker room. They all knew that it was a big day but the score had to be in their favor at the end of the game to make it to the 3A division playoffs. The locker smelled of dripping sweat and athletic tape. Everyone suited up and prepared themselves for the game. After warming up, the wildcats ran some offensive plays to get ready and get focused. The score was tied up 21 to 21 with 4:56 left in the 3rd quarter. The wildcats offense had stalled and now the defense was carrying the load. The Chiefs had been running the ball down the wildcats throats all night but now the tide was starting to change. The chiefs quarterback, Alex Smith was playing a record setting game with 423 yards passing and a completion rate of 62%. Alex was red hot but somehow the defense had to cool him down. The chiefs had the ball and their own 38 yard line, and it was first down. The ball leap into the hands of Alex and he handed the ball off to his running back with authority. The back juked and spinned but with the swiftness of a fox, but with no success. Second down, with 3:23 left in the third quarter. This time it was a pass but it was sniffed out like a bear going to the smell of meat by the defense. This play resulted for a loss of 2 yards for the offense. The tides were beginning to turn in the wildcats favor. Third down, 12 to go with 2:15 left in the third. This time was a pass as well, but the ball was off course and was intercepted by the safety who made it to the chiefs 47 yard …show more content…
Finally, after some success, but not much, it was second down and 7 to go, the wildcats had the ball on the chiefs 32 yard line. It was the fourth quarter with 4:47 left in the game. Collin got the ball and dropped back, and he looked, and he looked. He looked for what seemed like eternity. Sack! Collin was taken down by some defensive linemen and now it was third down. The ball was snapped again and this time it was handed off and taken to the 21 yard line, first down. The next play, Collin dropped back again and this time he saw Alex breaking the coverage and his route. He was headed straight for the end zone. Collin stepped up into the pocket and fired the ball downfield. It was a perfect pass, but was broken up by the 3 deep chief defenders. Now there was only 1:23 left in the game. The ball was on the 21, and it was second down. Collin knew what he had to do. He called the play and everyone lined up on the ball. The sweat was pouring from each player like summer in the rain forest. The ball was snapped and ripped into the hands of Collin. He had all his receivers run right into the end zone he looked and saw the linebackers blitzing to try to make a sack.
