Is anyone in this room interested in Dragon Ball or Sailor Moon? I still remember, when I was in primary school, the Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon will be on air every Saturday and Sunday, at 9 am. So today, I'm not going to talk further about dragon ball or Sailor Moon, but I want to share about the adverse effects of cartoons on children. Typically, children begin watching cartoons on television at an early age of six months, and by the age two or three years, children become excited viewers. This has become an acute problem because too many children are watching too much television and the shows that they are watching, even if they are cartoons, have become violent and addictive. ...Gender Role Stereotypes and Children’s Television For this paper, I had to watch a wide variety of different shows. I had to watch a few cartoons, sitcoms and PBS shows. What I found in this study I found very interesting. I found that the most traditional roles in men and women were found in the PBS shows. I am sure this is because when children watch these, they are usually at the age where they are establishing the roles of girls and boys. I found that in the sit-coms, especially friends, my research correlates with what the Signorelli article says. According to the article, “Women make up at least half of the characters in soap operas.” This is true in Friends; there are three boys and three girls.
