Case Reflections

In the case of Ronald McDonald, I believe that there is a lot to blame on the fast food restaurants targeting children with their captivating advertisements. It has definitely caused a huge spike in children obesity across the world, but mainly in the United States. It seems that anywhere you look whether on a TV, newspaper, street sign, and even on your phone, it’s almost impossible for our children not to be bombarded with all of this especially if toys are included with these meals. I also blame the parents, because ultimately they have the final say as to whether to buy these fat foods or not. They are the ones in control of what their children consume and should be held responsible for any risks associated with these foods. Any fast food restaurant will continue to deliver all types of advertisements and clearly they don’t care what the health outcome of such individual is. All they want is our money and for the most part they are getting it. I believe that McDonalds or any other fast food outlets have changed part of their menu to become healthier because they were told so, not because they wanted to. This makes a huge difference in the type of company they are and will only do it to be in some sort of “compliance” with society and so they won’t be the “bad guy”. However, this change has been accepted by many people as a positive change and does provide them with other menu options. I think that it is not ethical to tie their advertising symbol to its charitable efforts. On the fast food side people have the impression of making children obese and then having to take care of children with illnesses through their charities. I don’t see a positive outcome. As blunt as I can be they are selling food that can create illnesses and then trying to cure those illnesses through these foundations. I always wonder what these sick children are being fed. McDonalds?

Where Are You Going Where Have You Been Reflection

...The concept of reflection is fairly simple; it is simply “the change in direction of a wave, such as a light wave, away from a boundary the wave encounters” (dictionary.com). However, in literature, waves can represent so much more. The reflection of ones self can be a representation of not only their physical appearance, but their spiritual appearance, emotional appearance, and interior appearance as well. Although some reflections show distortion, many reflections actually display a brutally honest picture. Through the repetition of various types of reflection, Oates is able to paint a vivid image of the innermost being of her characters, as well as offering insight on the reality of society during the 1960s and even the reality of our...

Reflection on Mentorship Practice

...being in his position, being the same age as him, I began to feel embarrassed too. I thought that I could not possibly be a professional individual if I let my embarrassment and sympathy get in the way of my nursing care. We assisted Mr B into the bath and started his wash. I knew he was uncomfortable and wanted to be able to wash himself, but was unable to do so. I was finding it difficult to look him in the eye, especially when it came to washing his genitalia. I tried to ease this by making conversation, but in a way this made matters worse. After the bath we dried Mr B, dressed him and returned him in the wheelchair to bed. To the healthcare assistant it was another job done, but the feelings I had afterwards, as I am sure was the case with Mr B, stayed with me for some time. This reflective account provides a good description of the nurse’s feelings but it does not go much beyond that. What additional information is needed to develop it? Adapted from Jasper, M. 2003. Try your best to integrate the bits and pieces of the knowledge you have gathered thus far and reorganize them based on the way you see enterprise systems now. Your integrative assignment/reflection should be organized in a systematic manner. The following questions (not exhaustive) are intended to provide some pointers in structuring your thought process. You do not need to consider all these questions. * How are your initial perceptions of ES confirmed or rejected by what you have learnt? * Do you agree that ES offers a substantial competitive edge to organizations? * Do you agree with the common assertion that ES is highly rigid and inflexible, that it imposes substantial constraints on organizations? * What aspects of ES that you deem most powerful or impressive? * What aspects of ES that you find lacking or disappointing? * What do you see as the relationship between business processes and ES? * What do you see as the key challenges in selecting, implementing, and maintaining ES? * What do you believe to be the critical success factors in implementing ES? * What...

Connected but Alone

...Connect, But Alone Does too much of a good thing ever become a problem? Sherry Turkle was trying to answer that question in her TED Talk, “Connected, But Alone?” Turkle was once a huge fan of the innovations of the Internet and she was also in awe of it but she realizes the negative effects of having an instant connection to anyone, anywhere, anything. Turkle gives examples from research she performed to show that technology has become very addicting and that we have become very secluded because of our overuse. She also gets her audience to examine their own personal experiences. What Turkle is showing from her research may make a lot of people unhappy. People will be unhappy because no one agrees to have a problem, especially in the case of addiction. Turkle wants to shine a spotlight on technology addiction, though it may not be as bad as a drug or alcohol addiction. Nevertheless, it is still an addiction. Turkle knows she has to establish credibility in order for her to diagnose mankind with this condition. Turkle uses two different appeals to make this happen. Her first appeal was to use emotion, while her second was informing the audience of who she is by sharing her background with them. In her first appeal, she shared a text from her daughter at the beginning of her presentation. The text message read, “Mom, you will rock.” “I love this. Getting that text was like getting a hug,” she told her audience (Turkle). Just by sharing that little conversation between her and...

Administrative Controls

...based on the needs of the business. In terms of due care, this is a reflection of responsibility a company has taken for their actions within their company to provide the necessary protection. Due care is evident through specific controls established to confirm management is cognizant of the activities in their company. For example, I work for a healthcare company and controls are set in place to block all social networking sites from being accessed on the company network. This provides protection for the employees from accessing non-company related materials and it decreases the company’s chances malicious activity caused by accessing those sites. We also participate in employee trainings, which is also considered an administrative control. This is considered due care because we are trained to understand policies and procedures. When we start all training sessions, there are forms we have to complete stating that we are entering a specific course and we receive documentation at the end of the training session to reflect we have completed the course. All of these controls exhibit individual accountability and separation of duty, which is extremely important to consider in terms of controls. How Does the Absence of Administrative Controls Impact Corporate Liability The absence of administrative controls will certainly reflect a negative connotation on corporate liability. This is a direct reflection on...

Comparison Of Breath And 5 Bell

...Breath by Tim Winton and 5 Bells by Gail Jones, are two Australian novels that both focus on action and reflection as literary devices throughout their novels. These devices are used to help develop the theme and characters. Breath largely uses reflection as the story focuses on protagonist Pikelet, a middle aged man reflecting on his youth. 5 Bells also focuses on reflection, with many characters, as in this case there is more than one protagonist, reflecting on their past and the people they’ve lost. Reflection is used, not only to develop these characters, but also to help develop the major themes, of which 5 Bells major theme is how people to respond to grief, and for Breath the theme is how people respond and attempt to overcome fear. Breath addresses the theme of fear within the...

Ethical Lense Inventory

...kids and their families. I have so much love for kids that I just want to see smiles on their faces. I want to start as a Social Worker and work my way up to become a Child Protective Specialist. Becoming a CPS would mean a lot to me because it will make me help kids get out of harm that is caused by parents or guardians. It also will make me feel better knowing that some kids are going to sleep safe at night and trying to live a normal life. The strengths that I bring to this career are a strong and open mind, work efficient, and can work under pressure. Having these strengths makes me more valuable because my supervisor would be able to see the kind of person that I am and will value my work. They would see that I can be able to handle cases on my own and hopefully get promoted to a higher position. The opportunities that I would make for myself improvement to allow me to be more valuable in the workplace would be to sometimes think outside the box and understand my clients with a better and clearer understanding. The opportunities that I look forward to is getting to help kids and hopefully landing a supervisor position with New York City ACS Agency. The result of my Ethical Lens Inventory was that my personal preferred Lens was None – periscope and Paralysis. This means that I see the gifts and weaknesses of each lens and I am able to move smoothly among them to adopt the right tools to each situation to get the best outcome.
