Case Study Analysis Report Comm215

...Case Study Analysis Report ⦁ Introduction This report provides an analysis and evaluation of the problems associated in Carl Robins' case study. To my understanding the result from my report can be summarized easily with lack of communication and organization. Communication and organization are a must in most aspects of life, but are required skills in any career field. When we miss these areas many problems can arise. Issues that emerge due to the absence of information, coordination and organization, can be easily avoided. When you are planning your career or a big life event, following through with your plan and schedule are key for the success of any event, whether is life or job related. B. Background When organizing a "needed by date" recruitment event you should have the capability to believe that, in fact, you will recruit people, even if in reality you do not. It is of extreme importance to prioritize and organize yourself when a big event is in the plans. Also, putting together a team will help you delegate in areas where you feel comfortable letting someone else handle or in areas that you do not have much expertise. To me was crucial to get a real life opinion in regards to the subject. I decided to interview my sister Ivonne Valentin, former Human Resources recruiting supervisor for Home Goods Distribution Center in Bloomfield, CT. We talked about the steps to take in order to avoid issues when planning a recruitment event. She mentioned that...

Rendell Company Case

...MANAGEMENT CONTROL SYSTEMS Executive Case Summary – Case 3-3 Rendell Company Fitria Noviati / MM UGM International Class Case 3-3: Rendell Company Rendell Company that had been operating a profitable business for 50 years, but experienced a considerable slowed growth during the 1970s. Rendell hired its first controller in 1980 to address this exact problem. Rendell had seven divisions, with each division responsible for the manufacturing and marketing of their line of products. A controller was assigned to each of the seven divisions, and they reported to the general manager of their respective division. Frank Bevins, Rendell’s corporate controller, was concerned about the organizational status of his divisional controllers, as they do not report directly to him. Consequently, the company was experiencing difficulties in implementing its modern control techniques due to the strained relationship between the corporate controller and the divisional controllers. Problem Identification The primary problem faced by Frank Bevins was that he felt he was not obtaining adequate information from the divisional controllers regarding the divisions’ budget and performance reporting. He suspected that it was due to the fact that the divisional controllers reported to their respective division’s general manager. The controllers’ primary loyalty was therefore to their division’s general manager, hence a biased report to the corporate controller. Bevins was facing a dilemma...

Critically Examine the Role of “Relevance and Reliability” in the Conceptual Framework.

...the nature, subject, purpose and broad content of general-purpose financial reports’ (Carnegie, et. al. 2008). The conceptual framework is made up of four qualitative characteristics: relevance, reliability, comparability and understandability (Hoggett, et. al. 2009). These qualitative characteristics allow the general-purpose financial reports to be constructed for interpretation by a particular user(s) so they may make informed decisions about certain aspects of their organisation. Although all four qualitative characteristics are important in the accounting processes, this essay will focus on the role of relevance and reliability in the conceptual framework. When general-purpose financial reports are constructed, the information used, among other things, must be relevant. Hogget, et. al. (2009) defines relevance as a quality of financial information that influences economic decisions by helping users to form predictions, to confirm or correct past evaluations and to assess the rendering of accountability by preparers. For all information to be used accurately and appropriately, the information used must be relevant to the task it is used for. The relevance of information is affected by its nature and materiality. In some cases, the nature of information alone is sufficient to determine its relevance, such as stock loss via broken or missing stock (Hoggett, et. al. 2009). But this is not always the case. Materiality refers to information that can possibly cause users to make...

You should expand these supplied objectives whenever appropriate. List all components (including values) and major equipment required to perform the exercise. Be sure to include make, model, and serial numbers of all equipment used. Reporting Complexity

... receive a minimal benefit as report complexity has continued to increase which in most cases lead to higher processing costs. Arthur Levitt, former SEC chairman has said that “In many cases, the problem is not a lack of information; it is actually quite the opposite. To much information can be as much of a problem as to little and more disclosure does not always mean better disclosure.” More information and disclosure, especially to small investors is seen as a negative attribute as it once again comes back to higher processing costs from resources they do not have. This makes it rather difficult for small investors to make an informed investment decision surrounding the filing date of a company’s 10-k. Hypotheses Brian Miller derived two hypotheses, with one consisting of an A & B format surrounding the effects of reporting complexity on small and large investors in order to guide his research. The first hypothesis H1(a) is Total abnormal trading around a 10-K is lower when reports are more complex. Mr. Miller stated that if reports become complex (based on the length & readability), forecasting the profitability and sustainability of future growth from these reports becomes difficult. Investors in this case may simply choose not to invest in companies that produce such complex 10-k reports, which would ultimately lead to a lower abnormal trading volume. H1(b) states that The effects of report complexity on abnormal trading ...

Business Management

...Ethics Case | | BYP1-6     | | Wayne Terrago, controller for Robbin Industries, was reviewing production cost reports for the year. One amount in these reports continued to bother him—advertising. During the year, the company had instituted an expensive advertising campaign to sell some of its slower-moving products. It was still too early to tell whether the advertising campaign was successful. There had been much internal debate as how to report advertising cost. The vice president of finance argued that advertising costs should be reported as a cost of production, just like direct materials and direct labor. He therefore recommended that this cost be identified as manufacturing overhead and reported as part of inventory costs until sold. Others disagreed. Terrago believed that this cost should be reported as an expense of the current period, based on the conservatism principle. Others argued that it should be reported as Prepaid Advertising and reported as a current asset. The president finally had to decide the issue. He argued that these costs should be reported as inventory. His arguments were practical ones. He noted that the company was experiencing financial difficulty and expensing this amount in the current period might jeopardize a planned bond offering. Also, by reporting the advertising costs as inventory rather than as prepaid advertising, less attention would be directed to it by the financial community. | | Instructions | (a)   | Who are the stakeholders...
